Can't Print via Wireless Connection

I'm having trouble printing to our printer.

We replaced the cartridges last night so that's not preventing processing of my print requests.

Printer is in my boyfriend's office. Wireless router is in my office, connected to my computer. The printer has wireless capability and is not directly connected to my boyfriend's laptop or my desktop.

My boyfriend's laptop (he doesn't have a desktop; his laptop is his home computer) is able to print to the printer via wireless interface (assumable from his laptop and not through the router).

A few months ago, I tried to print from my laptop (now returned to my former employer). I was able to print a test page but then was never able to print again after that.

I'm trying to print from my desktop and I can't. It's extremely frustrating because I'm trying to finish a proposal ASAP. Every once in a while, I can pop my flash drive into the USB port, and for some reason it sort of 'glitches' the system and the print job from my computer will print. It did it just a minute ago but now it won't do it again.

Help! Any ideas about what the problem is?

What operating systems are involved?

I'm running XP on my desktop. The printer is a Brother.

Sorry about the delay...been trying to figure that out...

Really haven't done anything w/ wireless printers....
But two things off the top of my head....
A) Go into your Control Panel, go to Administrative Tools....then go to Services. Look for the Print Spooler service ad make sure that it is set to automatic.
B) Uninstall the drivers and reinstall. It's possible that something got mucked up somewhere.

Thanks, Dan. I tried your suggestions, and I've reinstalled the driver from the CD more than once. Still, no luck. :(

I guess I need to call Dell (my desktop) or Brother (printer)..?

For any wireless connection, IP settings are the most acurately needed task. One needs to give proper IP address and othersettings like DNS, Domain name, Client properties. Put this information properly and the printer might work.

I finally did what I should have done in the first place. I called the manufacturer of the printer and had them walk me through the steps.

I can usually figure this stuff out, which is what took me so long to call the manufacturer's help line.

It took me and the rep a while to get it setup, so I didn't feel too bad that I couldn't figure it out.

Dan and Mandisk, thanks for your suggestions!
