manofmisteree 06-15-2008, 05:38 AM So tonight I went to a birthday party with a few friends tonight and for the most part a fun time was had by all. Well that all changed once we left. My friends girlfriend had one too many and we had to help her to the car as she was literally staggering all over the place. She claims she's Irish and she could handle her own. So much for that theory. As I drove everyone to my home (a 10 minute trip) she threw up all over the back seat of my car. I've cleaned up what I could but I know some of the throw up went inside the hard to reach areas and the stench still remains. My friend and her girlfriend are now staying at my place recuperating as I type this.
Since I will be able to see better tomorrow morning I will wake up early and clean the back seat in more detail before it gets hot out. Afterwards I will go to the car wash and have them shampoo the inside of the car in hopes this will take out the smell.
Does anyone have any further advice on how else I can go about cleaning the inside of the car? This is still a new car and I don't want this smell to permanently stay in my car.
Please help!!!
cindee 06-15-2008, 06:49 AM OMG . . Mano! That is so incredibly disgusting. I think your friend (or his girlfriend) should pay for a detailing for you. Wow!
In the meantime, perhaps a couple of boxes of baking soda, an open bag of charcoal, (both to absorb the stench) and some Febreze on the upholstery?
But I really think it needs to be professionally detailed . . and now.
I am so sorry to hear of this. Major bummer . . .
grumpysgirl 06-15-2008, 07:10 AM EWWWW..I been there!!!! I got some car cleaner at wal mart and some frebreeze when it happen to me!
OH AND A FACE MASK!

Agreed. That's just not cool at all.

Try asking a police officer what they use - drunks who have been arrested often do this in police cars.

Angel 06-15-2008, 01:46 PM I can't believe she hasn't offered anything, maybe she feels humiliated after behaving so badly.
I'd politely ask her to clean it up or pay to have it cleaned up. It's the least she could do.
LADave 06-15-2008, 08:22 PM BLECH! Absolutely she should pay for a professional detailing, and, if worst comes to it and the car can't be made like new by cleaning, to replace the back seat, carpeting, etc!
While reading this story I remembered one of the senior questions in one of my high school yearbooks. Replying to "What happened on your worst date?" one guy replied "A girl ralphed in my dad's car at the drive-in."

IIRC, they're usually vinyl here, though. What kind of seats do you have, Mano?
sheila4pd 06-15-2008, 09:12 PM One of those carpet cleaners foams with a nice smell. Sad to tell you that vomit smell is hard to get rid of. I suggest that you clean the car as well as you can, and park it under the hot sun with the windows open. This should accelerate the smell evaporation process. You will have to repeat the use of carpet cleaner and leaving the car under the sun until you get rid of the smell.
Wow, what an inconsiderate friend. You should recruit her for the cleaning of your car.
greenpetunia 06-15-2008, 09:28 PM I believe we should all be held responsible even if we're intoxicated. If the police had caught your friend's gf driving, she would've been arrested on the spot without sparing any of her shame at all.
I suggest you politely ask her, preferrable in front of somebody else, to do something about your car. She needs to learn how to be a better Irish.
LadyInWaiting 06-16-2008, 01:06 AM Roll all the windows down, make sure you have all the eeww *chunky stuff* cleaned up, then soak a rag with ETHYL alcohol (not isopropyl, ie, rubbing alcohol) and wipe every down very well. Check a hidden spot first to see if it will mess up the upholstry...it is usually fine with fabric and carpet.
My H.S. chemistry teacher used to have the class mix bile (the stinkly stuff in vomic) with ethyl alcohol to neutralize the smell and make a *perfume*. It works really well.
Good luck.

Ammonia mixed with water will also help cut the smell. Use a towel, and spray and blot, till you get it cleaned up, then leave all your doors open to dry out.
Worst I ever had, worse than vomit, I brought a crock pot of sauerkraut and sausages to a family reunion. Buncha Germans made a crack the year before about how, all of us of German descent, and no sauerkraut at the reunion. I'd show 'em. Spilling half a crock pot full of sauerkraut in your car on a hot day doesn't improve the smell inside your car one little bit.
I scrubbed, and fanned, and sprayed, and the whole time I owned that car, on really hot days, I could still catch a whiff.

Oh, ick. That reminds me of the time I spilled red clam sauce all over the passenger's seat in my old Cherokee. I still hate clams.
chat cat 06-16-2008, 04:05 PM What really works (and is healthier to boot) is baking soda and vinegar. Sprinkle baking soda everywhere you can on the carpets, upholstery and such and use diluted vinegar in a spray bottle to clean surfaces. It will smell strange for an hour but it really kills all the odors by destroying the source instead of just masking it up. If you put a bowl of vinegar in the car it will also absorb all the puke odor. Just leave it in over night and tah dah! If you use all the perfumed stuff, it just masks the odor and makes it worse.
Good luck!
