I remember seeing Urhiness' name when he was born and thinking, "Can't people adopt a dog and name them something crazy like that and spare the kid?" But I would never want the government regulating that (I know the Metallica kid's parents had a fight to name him that) so unusual names are here to stay.

The Orangejello and Lemonjello I've heard before and someone claiming they pronounce it Or-ahn-zja-low and La-mon-zja-low.

Some of those names are just insane. Fortunately when they come of age they can change their name and I doubt any judge would blame or deny them.

Where I live, the government reserves the right to refuse the name of a child when the parents register the birth. This is a right that is sheldom exercised, and I can only recall an instance of some parents who wanted to name their child "Ivory". The registrar refused on grounds that this name was, for the most part, related to a soap product, and that the child risked to be mocked throughout his/her life.

I think "Ivory" was just as good of a name as any, but when you're living in a multicultural environment, both parents and society at large should keep an open mind and respect people choices, but also recognize the environment in which their children are going to grow. I suppose the registrar officer didn't have too much of an open mind, and at the end the parents prevailed with their choice.

If I father a son, I would love to name him Hadrian, after the Roman Emperor. Hadrian was distinguished by his enlightened reign, his fondness of building. A story goes that a peasant woman sought his audience. Hadrian told her that he didn't have time, to which the peasant woman replied, "Then don't take time to be King." With this Hadrian paused and granted her an audience. Whether or not this occurred - none of us were there - this is the reason I'd name a son after him. If I father a daughter I'd like to name her Carmen. This is because I so want a beautiful daughter that my seed would be super-charged and the result worthy of the name.
