Hey all you computer geniouses of Ageless :D

Me, as a complete n00b when it comes to which computers are good or bad, is looking for a laptop. The reason is the fact that I am moving out to study at University, and my parents wouldn't be very happy if I took their pc with me :p So, I need a laptop. I would also like to use it for gaming as well, so it should be capable of running up-to-date games. With some help from a friend, I've found the ASUS C90S:

(sorry for the Norwegian link, couldn't find any other)

To me it looks like a decent pc for my use, although a little pricy (9,500 NKR = about 1,800 USD). But, I've heard from several people (including Nat) that ASUS is not a good brand and that I should look for something different.

So, I want to hear your opinion. Both about the C90S and ASUS in general, and about any other units that can match the specifications of the C90S.

Thank you in advance ;)

Ummm...

I'm not sure why people are telling you that ASUS is not a good brand. I must say they are VERY wrong...

Asus is one of the better brands, as far as I'm concerned. I use thier motherboards quite frequently in systems that I build...and in fact, I own one of their laptops....and have been nothing but pleased with it...

The specs of that laptop are about on par with what I have, and i paid over 2000 dollars for mine. Only difference between that and mine...is mine is a 17 inch screen and yours is 15....and mine has a 256 meg video card in mine, and yours is 512.

So, I say good laptop...and good price for it!

I have to agree with Dan here....... I have never had any hassle with ASUS, it is good kit! The MOBO in my 'trainee dinosaur' PC is an ASUS, now 6 years old and still going strong :) My laptop is also ASUS and I can truthfully say I have never had any problems with either of them.

I have a Gateway and I'm very happy with it.

There's a caveat to buying new computers today. It's very hard to find a desktop and almost impossible to find a laptop that comes with Windows XP, or that you can easily downgrade to XP. Furthermore, downgrading to XP means you void the warranty on a lot of new machines! So, if you have older software applications (like Delphi 7 for you programmers out there, Office 2000, or older versions of Roxio), a new computer means ALOT of new software upgrades and will cost big $$, since the older stuff isn't Vista compatible.

Just a thought.
