You could say her mother is okay with the relationship

My partners mother had her 93rd birthday last weekend, she is still reasonably active and as sharp as a razor. She jokes with me that she is going to outdo her daughter and go for a really younger man, someone in his sixties, for those who do not know my partner is 68 and I am 48.
She lives in sheltered accommodation near us, we took her out for lunch on her birthday, whilst on her way back from the loo/toilet/bathroom/restroom (call it what you will) she overheard two people on a nearby table making derogatory comments about the age gap of me and my partner, her reply to them was "better being a couple with an age gap than a couple full of spite". Way to go 'not quite my mother-in-law'.

She is a real gem, and a terrible flirt, no waiter is safe when we take her out for a meal.

On the serious side she knows that I make her daughter happy, remember my partner is widowed, she lost not just a husband but a real soul-mate, and her mother knows only too well how low she felt, after all she herself is widowed.

I have been really lucky with my partners family, not only her mother but both her daughters accepted me, of course her youngest daughter is herself in an age gap relationship being 12 years older than her husband, her first comment to me about my relationship with her mother was "typical mum, outdoes everyone, I get a man 12 years younger, she gets one 20 years younger".

My parents, now both deceased, were less welcoming to the relationship, they accepted it, they had no choice, but you could always sense a certain atmosphere.
