Ok - so here's the scoop. I've been planning my honey's birthday (april 23rd) and both of us have such a busy schedule that we were going to celebrate in May. I started planning a trip to San Francisco. Then last night (w/o telling him where) I told him to keep May 16, 17 and 18th open b/c I am going to take him on a trip. He said not to burst my bubble, but he lives day by day w/ his son b/c he is so tempermental. So - now I have to tone it down a little and think of something for his 40th birthday. Any suggestions?

Hey! That's my birthday! All three days! (Just kidding!!)

EM, what about a "tourist in your own town" kind of thing? Just ONE night at a really nice hotel - honeymoon suite perhaps?? - and bring (stealing this from another board) the "tickle-trunk!" Wear something incredibly sexy and go somewhere you wouldn't normally or don't often get to go to. A restaurant where you can really dress to the nines.

Or heck, what about sexy outfit & room service!!! Surely, he can find a sitter or be without his son for ONE night, maybe???

Or if not and he DOES have his son, maybe you can slip the kid an AMBIEN and then party in the house all night long. (KIDDING! KIDDING! KIDDING! I had an Ambien night last night. Ha ha ha.)

Along with the 'intown tourist' we can go back to a hotel and pull out the 'tickle trunk'....hmm...wheels are a turnin'!!!

Let him choose what he wants.... simply buy him something nice and ask him to put one day aside for you and maybe the both of you do a day trip? that way you won't be gone all day... and you can both win...

2 ideas.....

1. There's a hotel right across the street from the Hotel Del in Coronado, they have a "honeymoon" suite on the top floor that overlooks the bay from bed......very romantic (small elevator, so if you're "tickle trunk" is large, it may be tight.)

2. Go up to the Cuyamaca mts, there are several bed and breakfast places with fireplaces in the room, even more romantic

San Diego is a very romantic place

Stan, this is the first time that I've noticed your in SD! Wow ;) There are some great places in SD, I'm gonna look into those.

However, if they aren't available I think I will do the day trip MerAlove23 suggested.

And Jim....thanks *blushes*

"Stan, this is the first time that I've noticed your in SD"

Don't tell anyone, one of my former students is in the band at Madison.
The day trip would be fine too. I have to agree. flash that smile and he won't care where you are.

Since your a San Diego man yourself...what would be a good DAY TRIP?

P.S. Please don't say Sea World :p

Sea World? Naaa, I'm not that big a fish fan. I love the mountains, or Coronado is beautiful. A Picnic on Torrey Pines beach is nice, or La Jolla cove. Or you could come hear my jazz trio next fri night..... More?

Picnic @ Torrey Pines....hmm...that's a good one! :)

You said about bring him to San Francisco for a few days. . .why not invite his son too? I mean, surely it wouldn't be as romantic, but this is the most beautiful city in the country (rated so. . .Saw it on MSN with my own two lil eye balls :)) There's tons the three of you could do together, and i'd even show you around town if you did decide to do so. Just my idea though, something to consider. Best of luck deciding anyway.

Hmm...noticed your location....bias opinion....j/k.
Even though his son is being better....trust me HE'S A HANDFUL! Plus D is with him 24/7 and needs a break from the kid.

Besides, D is being poopy about turning 40...so who knows if he'll even feel up to doing anything. However, I have the power of manipulation!!!!! He doesn't know that we are doing something for his birthday till later....right *devilish grin*

I forgot to mention that I frequent San Fran - and I have no doubts that it is one of the most beautiful cities in the country. I love San Fran....and what is it about Alcatraz that I can't get enough of....it's just so interesting!

The reason why I say bring the kid is because maybe getting him away from home for a couple days would do him good, but your point is well taken.

Biased as my opinon may be, the votes are what counts. I'll have to look for that article on MSN I read it in. SF is beautiful though, the views of our skyline from Treasure Island; taking a ferry to Angel Island and hiking to the stop to enjoy the scenes *sigh* its beautiful.

I still say bring him to SF, and I know a good pet store that sells some pretty big muzzles ;)

Muzzle and some sort of restraining device! D has talked about taking a trip to San Fran - all three of us. But I wanted to take him for a romantic get away.

Ha...muzzle...can't get over that one

What Lady and I were thinking about doing for a romantic get away was take a short drive up the coast and stay at a bed and breakfast. We found a nice one up our coast, in chico actually. Not to say you should drive to chico for a romantic get away, but check and see wahts there. Those days aren't that popular I don't think, so you might be able to have some luck. And incase he chews himself out of the muzzle you could get back home without much trouble.

But, in my experiance a nice bubble bath, some candles and some massage oil spells romance in big bold letters.
