Chad. You can practically buy them at the grocery store these days. Just do your homework first-consumer reports is a good resource to avoid buying a dud. For a quick and dirty fix without buying a new machine, try using pop-up blocker software or a browser like mozilla that allows you to turn them off. Tall Guy 04-09-2003, 09:35 PM Just download Mozilla off www.mozilla.org. They have versions for Mac, Windows and Linux. Thats your quickest bet. as for a new computer, well Mrs. R is right again in that you can pretty much pick'em up at Safeway. If you have a Walmart out there, they sell computers with an OS called Lindows for somethin like $300. Sure they aren't the best things since sliced bread, but they do the trick. You can always rip Uncle Bill off and install windows on it. Also, you might want to visit www.craigslist.org and see if they have a local craigslist for your area (there is a list of them on the right side of the page when it loads). If you have a local one, you can just purchase a used one off of someone. I see 1ghz machines for as low as $150 sometimes so thats definately an option. Best of luck dude Steve irparis 08-06-2003, 06:07 PM hey Don, Thanks for the info, but you still have to purchase after 30 days don't you. its only a demo you can download. Paris irparis 08-06-2003, 09:36 PM Thank for the heads up Don. This software is amazing...I love it anyway and would purchase it even if I had to. I'll see what happens after 30 days. Thanks again...I'm going to have to pass this along. Paris ukfireball 08-18-2003, 07:15 PM I use a computer on a big network, and the way in which it is set up would not be possible for me to use anti pop up software. I hold an email account with mail.com, and every time I login, 4 pop up ads appear aarrrggggghhhh I don't know why they expect people to keep using their service when this happens; the latest thing occuring, when I select to go to my inbox, or to send an email, the main browser automatically goes to their advertisement page! they don't help themselves and I will have to change services :) |
