Bad Neighbors

About 2 months ago we had new neighbors next door. As you can see we have cats and dogs at home. Anyway tonight the new neighbor came in and threatened to poison our cats if they go into their property. I understand their concern and my mom was pissed at them because this issue just came to us today and the threat. The new neighbors are quiet but don't know how to communicate in a nice way. I don't want to get into details about this and just wanted to vent out. Does anyone out there know how to deal with bad neighbors or has an experience to share? If anyone wants to talk to me on pm about the neighbors next door, I will glad to tell more.

Oh Lord, be careful. I have the absolute WORST neighbor about this kind of thing, and when they threaten it....they usually actually do it.
You may want to call the police and report what they said to you now...the threat.
My neighbors killed every cat we have had....seriously. They have done it in sneaky, underhanded ways where I can't even prove it...I just wake up in the morning and the cat is gone...never to be seen again.
The last cat they got was a blue-eyed persian my kids had for three years. They caught it in a trap, and then took it out and shot it. I, of course, have no proof. He was baiting traps at night with a can of tuna!
Anyway, do whatever you can to protect your animals now....Because those kind of people won't think twice about it. *hugs*

Thanks you two. The problem is three of our cats like to go into their front yard at night when we let them out. The other older cats are too smart not to go over the wall to their side. The new neighbors never have friends come over the weekend. I told my mom that the person she talked to has to be the grandmother who is the owner of the house. Her grand kids who is about 8 and 15 live them and she picks them up from school. The mother of the kids live somewhere else and there is a father figure that comes into the house not too often. The kids' mom comes by at night and rarely stays here. You know it would be nice to have a company that can create "new neighbor" reports that talks about new neighbors coming into the area. Just like wanted child molesters reports that have been successful in informing the public about them moving in the area. This report(bad neighbor) will have past records of disturbing the peace...domestic violence..etc... These people can still buy the house and all but the advantage is for the other neighbors to be aware who is living next door to reduce conflicts. I know this is a crazy idea and of course it will still have to pass through the legislature. Hugs Jody

In MOST neighborhoods it is against the law to kill people's pets and setting out poison for them is a NO NO.....I would contact your local police or animal control, and insist on the threat being on record. In most cases killing a person's pet punishable by a fine and/or jail term.

sounds like a law suit in the making.something the ACLU would have fun with...could be just a little too much liable and slander going on with something like that.:(

Naf,

Thanks for the words of advice. I love my cats and we are down to 8 since the 9th cat left us. I dont want to lose these cats. They make me happy. Pets make me happy.

oh geez...SOME peeps have WAY too much TIME on their hands....when i first moved to a new neighborhood one of the neighbors (HE IS GONE NOW...YAY=) called the POUND 16 times to try to catch my australian shephard who would get out when my daycare children forgot to close the door....talked and talked to him....he was ANAL about his yard...mowed the darn thing every other day and sculpted it with tweezers i bet=)....paid over a hundred dollars to get my dog back the ONE time she was caught....HE was not capable of rational communication and I finally started locking her in my bedroom until the kids were all in house for the day. He moved a couple of years later....AHHHHH the JOY of LIVING=). Not really much u can do except TRY to appease.....in our community, complaints over animals get LOTS of attention...mostly because THOSE kind of people CALL so often officials DO something to get em off their back. Animal owners have very little "rights" IF the animal strays beyond property lines.
Eventually, if the people complain often enough they will issue fines that get larger in amount until the issue is somehow resolved:( Goodluck to u....

It is a shame that some people are so frustrated about others' love for animals, it is appalling to think they could kill an animal because of this frustration. I don't want to sound negative Tyger, but I don't often manage to reason with this type of person. All you can do is try to remain civil and, if appropriate, use any rights you may have to stop them from harming your pets.

Maybe I say all this because I believe that 'healthy' human beings would embrace animals, plants, birds, etc.

But I am also most likely wrong in that belief.

wow, in regards to pet hating neighbors, I had an awful incident happen to me 17 years ago when I lived in Kansas. I had an a-hole of a neighbor shoot two of my german shephards in my 7 foot tall enclosed privacy fenced-in backyard. I had only left home for a couple of hours and they had been in the house (as they were my husband's and my "kids" and only went "outside" for short periods) I put them out when I left. When I returned home there were cops in the middle of the street and people gathered around. My male after getting shot, tried to go after the guy and then broke out of the yard, but ended up on the front porch with his jaw blown almost off by the shotgun the jerk had used.My female was down in the backyard with a hole in her neck/shoulder area. We rushed them to the vet, but decided to have the male put down. The female(known as Hope) we almost put her down too, but the vet said let's give her a night. Anyway, she survived til the age of 10( she was 3 at the time of the shooting) We tried everything we could to get justice for this....but the guy basically got off with a slap of the hand. I think he was fined a small charge for firing a gun off in city limits(this was a small hicktown) and put on 3 mths probation...that's it!
I'm only glad I wasn't home at the time....I would have picked him right off my fence...no problem...AND then I probably would have gone to jail....no, cause actually, I'd have drug him over the fence and layed his gun at his side. That was probably my first experience with hatred. We ended up having to move....could not live there anymore....he even threatened to finish the job when he found out we brought a dog back home from the vet.

Dabrake, that is so terrible. What a sad experience.

Yes, Blondie it was. I had never had anything like that ever happen(and I hope never again) that was so freaky. I was about 26 at the time. And I'm the type of person who has no enemies...I love people. I could not believe the hate that was in my heart for that guy. We kinda know why he did it....he had tried to break into our house one night while we were away and the dogs were inside...and may have tried to get him or one of his buddies. He was seeking revenge.
