FortRock 06-02-2003, 02:44 PM This past Saterday I was in a local used bookstore where I do a lot of brousing. I happened to run into a Dating/Relationship Manual published in the early 1980's by the editors of ESQUIRE MAGAZINE. It said that single men should not attend any parties or social events organized by, or in the homes of married people. It stated that if a man was seeking an exciting fun woman for a relationship that such a place is not proper to meet them in. The section virtually said that single women who attend social events organized by, or in the homes of married people are boring dolts, to paraphrase this section. I want your comments on this statement!
abaconw 06-02-2003, 05:24 PM I would think it would depend upon the party. If I as a single man were to be invited to a party given by a married couple, I would hope that they would invite a single girl or two also unlless it was a small house warming type of thing, something like that. Of course, I would hate to read what they might say about OM/YW relationships back then anyhow.

Happy4Me 06-03-2003, 10:49 AM I think an article written on dating in the 80's has about as much to do with dating in 2003 - so I completely disagree with it. Three couples that are now married met at parties I threw when I was still married. (shrug) Go figure...
abaconw 06-03-2003, 10:57 AM I think that you may meet the right person anywhere that the two happen to cross paths, be it a party, a restaurant, a mating service or even perhaps somewhere on the internet. Fate may determine that you are going to meet, fall in love with, and be with a person the rest of your life but for fate to slap you together like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich would take all the enjoyment out of meeting learning about each other and perhaps even the dedication to make something work. People often appreciate the things they have to work for more than that which is given to them on a silver platter, and those prizes are more meaningful as well.

Al, um.........I sure hope thats a typo!
:D A Mating Service?? ok ok I know ya meant dating....lol
Don
abaconw 06-03-2003, 11:49 AM those who are so desperate that they have to take what they can get use a mating service but most just use the dating service first in order to be a little more selective. lol

You don't remember? The 80's were spiked hair, ties, hats, headbands, torn sweatshirts off one shoulder, jeans with heels, zz top, journey, the go go's
and not platform shoes
but roller skates that looked like tennis shoes
wait, just like the sketchers ones at Walmart
OH NO!!!!!!!!! I'm in trouble when the 80's is considered retro
wow, I feel old today
abaconw 06-04-2003, 01:12 AM I couldn't do that because I didn't have much more than I do now to spike. lol
pixie 06-04-2003, 02:41 AM lol

abaconw 06-04-2003, 02:43 AM I was determined to do that even if I had to stay up all night thinking how!! lol. but of course I am sitting here at the computer finding interesting things!!! lol

abaconw 06-04-2003, 03:09 AM Just slap happy at this hour of the morning. lol My fingers started typing faster than my brain, which has happened now and then. lol
datura81 06-04-2003, 05:57 AM OH MY GOD, we have to DO something!!! Esquire from the early 80's......I mean, freakin' YIKES, dude!!!! Let's arrange some public form of disgrace to their little "publication"- this kind of nonsense-talk is a danger to EVERYONE!!!!
Seriously though....I wouldn't get my panties in a bundle. I mean, nobody reads Esquire TODAY, so I highly doubt they're leafing through back issues from 20-some years ago.
Ok....I think I'm gonna make it now. Whew! :D
rollsharley 06-04-2003, 07:29 AM pixie,

Well very true, but that was mid to late 80's. Saturday Night Fever came out in 1977. And Disco was born pretty much from that movie (short lived but born) and lasted 5-6 (lol...10 for the die hard fans) years putting the early 80's in that not so hip clothing style that I sadly remember and described in my post.:p
Don
pixie 06-04-2003, 08:40 PM OH!
Thank you for the trivia
I sit happily corrected by you, wise one *grin*
rollsharley 06-04-2003, 08:52 PM lol.....not wiser, just older!
