singalou 06-05-2003, 07:02 PM okies all....just throwing some stuff out here to see what is working for you...what you'd like to change...and if you've been successful. I've taught step aerobics and jazz for the past 15 years and now im having to change things around as 'it's not doing wut it USED to do" before i turned 40. I do strength train altho i have short muscle fibers ( i was a sprinter:() and any large amount of weight produces helga size muscles:(....i have to lift lighter weights for more repetitions to get the desired results. I can tell my metabolism has slowed somewhat and that my body does not process carbohydrates in the same way. I think as women's bodies get 'older' we have to limit the amount of carbs going into our bodies and eat more protein...whether vegetarian or not. I crave carbs, esp. before my menstrual cycle, and am TRYING to add more protein and less of those favored foods...ahhh breads and pastas=). Has anyone else noticed that those types of foods stay with you...in the form of 'extra' FAT...regardless of the exercise routine u follow? The women in my classes HAVE experienced the same IF they are above that 40+ yr mark...some even in their 30's. Mentally and physically i just FEEL better with less carbohydrates and more protein, fresh fruits, and veggies....but always feel kinda strange eating a turkey sandwich for breakfast:p But gonna try this and see IF it makes a difference along with adding some additional aerobic exercise with that lovely jump rope i NEED to use....but then it looks so nice just HANGING there in my closet:D Any takers in joining me in a 'new program' so we have some accountability here?
Lady Starlight 06-05-2003, 08:05 PM I need to lose weight for my medical conditions, but I can't do high protein or weight lifting because of, ha ha, my medical conditions. I am trying with just a stair climber and walking. But it's not working well :( OH well, at least I am trying.
But I can cheer you on :)
Lorena 06-05-2003, 08:10 PM I'm on a weight training and cardio plan, in order to get ongoing success, I need to change the routain every four to six weeks, if you don't your body grows immune to the same routain, you have to shock your body by giving it a variety, otherwise it stays the same. Funny how you should mention carbs. one of the love of my lifes, I love pasta, tortillas, and all the carbs there is, but yes I agree to much carbs is not good, more protein is needed in ones diet, I'm really struggling with cutting the carbs. I keep going back and forth with it, and I haven't overcome the wants of eating carbs. But all I can do is keep trying and maybe oneday it will get easier, this has been my biggest weakness, but I also notice that when I'm not eating carbs my stomach don't get bloated, but my cravings are still there. Lord help me to win this l , It was easier to quit smoking then what I'm doing with this carb situation, goodness.:)
Polly 06-07-2003, 11:01 PM Well, I feel like a MANATEE right about now, so yes, the carbs don't do a body good!
I keep trying to get back on my workout schedule, but something always comes up (changing the litter box, cutting out ads, looking for that lost slipper, phoning a friend for a pizza recipe using a 2-liter of LARD, coming HERE...) so actually getting on my exercise clothes and making it to the pavement just seems to fall into the "stuff I gotta do TOMORROW" list!
I know everything I should eat and everything I should do. I could recite ENDLESSLY a perfect diet plan, exercise plan, motivation plan. I just CAN'T make myself do it! I need to win the lottery and hire a beefy personal trainer to come to my house and literally KICK MY LAZY *** for at least one hour a day. Then, I need a personal chef, who could make tasteless diet crap taste like gourmet food. Finally, I'd hire a nanny to take my kids for a couple of hours a day so I could have some "me" time to de-stress (wait a minute...if I won the lottery, there would be no stress!), okay, scratch the nanny. I already promised God that if I won the lottery I wouldn't let it spoil me! :)
Okay, so I look like a manatee because I don't have a personal trainer and a chef, and a whole bunch of money to fix my finances. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! ;)
SnowPrincess 06-07-2003, 11:30 PM I really really need to crack down, on the weight :)

This is a very trustworthy site, they don't charge you until your order is shipped, and Marilyn is very nice, this is a smaller shop in Florida! Their cheesecake is expensive, but I ordered one and it lasted months in the freezer, so it was worth it!!
So thanks for starting this thread Sing!
I am motivated now!!!!
Blondie, I take naps in the afternoon too, I love it! Even if I don't fall asleep, it is so relaxing!
Lorena, Aspen has low carb tortillas, and they are really really good!
Heres to getting healthier!!
Disclaimer, I will start, I am deciding weither Sunday or Monday, Monday seems more logical........
singalou 06-08-2003, 08:06 AM yup snow...MONDAY=) Okies...get out a 'journal' ladies..if ONLY a mental one...how bout 4 weeks at a time here. For the next four weeks...we're gonna lower carbs, drink more water...ewww=), exercise more than you are used to by at least 10 min./day even if that is adding in the FIRST 10 min. you've done in a long time, 5 min. of stretching am or pm, and some kind of strength training even if it's incorporating lifting your kids in the air repeatedly 8 times in a row=)...hey they like it=). If you'd like ideas on stomach, calves (legs in general), BUTT=), and arm routines for strength training mail me and ill send u a more 'detailed' description. Take a good look at yourself nakey...or have someone else do=), and we'll check progress in four weeks...CLOTHES are the best assessment, but if u WANT to weigh do it ONLY once a week. BUFF city here we come!:D
yes, singalou, i HAVE noticed that. i'm 46. i was a vegetarian for years, but i was stunned when i started to gain weight all of a sudden. had to change my eating habits around. i really hate meat, but have gotten used to having more chicken and fish, and yeah, now i eat some hunk of protein in the morning instead of a bagel. (siiiigh, i miss my bagels) i try eating low carb, low cal, low fat. that seems no fun, but....i don't eliminate them entirely, those are just the three things i watch. i also take vitamins and drink lots of water. i have found that i have to be very careful about what i eat now. and the week of my period, i want carbs...most notably, MACARONI AND CHEESE, and i will usually let myself have one day a month at that time, to just eat that macaroni and sit back all smug like a .....a......like a manatee. (love that one, polly!!)
i do cardio and weights. with just a mish mash of other junk mixed in. about an hour a day. i should walk, too, but man, i just don't have the time.
also, you mentioned that you FEEL better when you limit the carbs, that is so true with me, too. i feel bright, active and healthy if im careful about what i eat. if i eat carbs, man, i get all sluggish and feel like im thinking in slow motion.
in short, when i was younger, i could eat any ol trash and feel fine and stay slim. no more!!!! gotta be SUPER careful about what i eat.
:)
kye

SnowPrincess 06-11-2003, 01:49 AM so just do it!!
I had company on my start date for a healthier life, My dad and his wife showed up overnight, so today was my big day!
The only excercise I got was shopping, cleaning out the fridge and restocking it with lots of good God/real food, as I call it, lettuce, celery, real butter, eggs, meats, cheeses, bottled water, Ect....... it looks real pretty :)
One thing for sure, It really motivated me when I was shopping for the good stuff, I want my kids to eat great too!
Tomorrow after work the T-tapp is going in the VCR, even if its only for 5 minutes it will be better than none!!
I am damn determined to feel better and less groggy! and the better cloths fitting thing would be nice too
:D
Hugzzz fellow healthiers
we need a name!!
yellowrose 06-11-2003, 02:20 AM I cannot "limit" carbs... I have to practically have none (under 60) or forget it. I have been "forgetting it". I had TWO McDonalds apple pies today... they are after all 2 for $1!
Let me finish up the gal of ice cream and I will be in.... :(
