OK you all, we just went through the weirdest expierence!!
Our local grocery store had a kiddie thing where you put your name in the little box at the grocery store (kids only) and they had 5 top prizes a huge super soaker, a skateboard, a scooter, a bicycle and a smaller 4 wheeler atv.
So how it worked was for 5 weeks you put your kids name in the boxes, every Saturday they pick 20 names and post them at the store, you have to come in a look at the list if your kids name is picked you get a 12 pack of pepsi and you will be in the final drawing at the end for the TOP 5 prizes.
So one of my kid's name is picked so off we go to the store tonight at 7, the rules say "need to be present to win" they do not call you for anything, not the final nor the Pepsi.
here is where it gets weird..............
We all verify we are here, they read off the list of the kids WHO ARE NOT THERE, (just in case they are and didn't sign in)
Than the big drawing starts.................
They say " we are drawing 10 names, if we pick your name you are a loser" The VERY first name that comes up is my neighbors kids name!!!!! BUT they give him 20 bucks........They call a few more "loser names" than all of a sudden the manager dude grabs the name bucket and runs into the store!!!!
about 15 minutes later and about 50 figity kids from the ages of 1 to 15, the manager comes back out, gets the 20 bucks back from the neighbors kid and starts all over
So here we go again!!!
so 10 "loser" names get called than a "winners" name of 10 bucks.
This goes on until the "big prizes", Now in all honestly I was real cool about it even though I thought it was really fuucked up! My kid got eliminated very close to the grand prize part!! Oh well, but some of these kids were real young, heard there names, got all excited, than the parents had to tell them no, they called your name because you lost, eliminated!!! Parents were hauling kids to cars, screaming, crying, pisssed off parents, pissssed off kids OMG it was bad.
But heres the worst part!!!
TOP 5 PRIZES
One kid won the bike
one kid won the super soaker ( hmmm the store managers kid)
One kids won the skate board AND the scotter:confused:
and grandpa, without the kid present and the store managers buddy won the ATV!!
OMG, its a scandle now! LOL
Me, Will and the kid were so happy just to get out of there!!!!
You would not have beleived the faces on these parents and kids, it was utter disgust!!
It was so sad, one boy about 5 was just bawling!!
So thats what we did IRL tonight :)
nuts..............

UNBELIEVABLE! Those kind of 'gimmicks' HAVE to be planned by adults who DONT HAVE A CLUE about kids...well, of course, EXCEPT for the store manager who OBVIOUSLY made sure HIS kid wasn't the one left crying. AND WTF....reading off the names of the NON-WINNERS? what is that? I'd send a lil note to management and if, a major chain, to the corp. office...stuff like that is absurd and does more to tarnish repeat business than to 'promote' anything. SO glad u had a FUN family evening....GAWD those kind of things are nightmares.

that's just horrible. nice publicity for the store, eh? man.

once, a long while ago, when my girls were little, i took them to a community easter egg hunt. the kids were very young, like 2, 3 and 4. the yard was covered with colorful eggs, and all the little kids had their basket. we were all waiting at the sidelines, everyone happy and anticipating fun. well, when they shouted "GO!", all's i saw was this wall of giant butts moving across the yard like a giant tidal wave. all the women had their babies by the hands, DRAGGING THEM as fast as they could, and alls you could see was their big ol butts since they were bent over, grabbing every egg they could get their hands on, and throwing them in their kids baskets. it was horrible. the mothers should not have been allowed on the yard, at all. i couldn't believe it. within seconds, every egg was gone, and all the little kids were just pretty much bewildered. i actually wrote to the news paper about it, kinda made it into a funny story, even though i thought it was disgusting....and they drew this huge picture to go along with my story, a giant wall of women's butts...dragging their little kids along...it was very funny. people sure do get ridiculous, don't they. totally ruined the fun for these little kids. as for me and my girls, we never even left the sidelines....we stood there with our mouths hanging open, watching that big wall o butts move across the yard, suckin up all the eggs. i took my kids to mcdonald's instead, then went out and bought some plastic eggs, and told them we'd have their own hunt with the neighborkids. they were happy.

good times!

Tell the manager as nicely as you can what a jackass he is (obviously don't use those words ;) and inform him that you will not shop there anymore. And yes, if it's part of a chain, be sure to upchannel your complaints to as high as you can get them.

People who mistreat kids should be publically flogged.

Some adults are so clueless!!! Either that, or the store manager's wife was yelling at him before hand, saying, "You'd better make sure Junior gets a prize! I'm not dealing with Junior if he doesn't get a prize!!!"

It seems to me that the best way to do it would be to have someone from the community, NOT the store, be the one to pick the names, and ONLY winning names should have been picked. The grandpa there to receive his grandson's gift? DISQUALIFIED! Just 'cause he's old doesn't mean he gets to bend the rules. I feel bad for the little kids. They really get worked up over this kind of stuff. IMHO, EVERY kid should have gotten a little something just for coming out, and the winners (the only names that should have been called) one collective applause at the end of the drawing.

Your son's right, Snow. It WAS friggin' GAY! :D (My 14-year-old says that all the time too).
