Here is an excerpt from the website of a new show for the fall on tv. This could prove to be helpful to the OW/YM relationship issue. I am hoping it does not portray it in a bad light. I will be watching to see. Aside from the fact I think Christine Baranski and John Larrouquette are hillarious, I can't wait to see how the writers handle the OW/YM storyline.
Comedy fans will be delighted to see two Emmy Award winners now united in one very relatable new series. John Larroquette and Christine Baranski star as Peter and Annie Brennan, soon-to-be empty nesters who couldn't be happier about it. Youngest son Tim is ready to graduate junior college , son Todd is getting married and daughter Sara is a big business success. Yep, their kids all turned out great and Peter and Annie can't wait to have the house to themselves. Not so fast. Tim is flunking out and shacking up with their 35-year-old neighbor, Maggie, who happens to be Annie's best friend. Meanwhile Todd's having an affair. And straight-laced Sara just turned up at the doorstep, three sheets to the wind. Seems now that the kids are grown up, mom and dad are seeing more of them than ever! http://www.nbc.com/nbc/Primetime_Preview/comedy/Happy_Family.shtml
Hmmm...should I put this in the Movie/TV thread? Hope no one minds me putting it here. I wanted more of the OW/YM to see it. :)
Peachy 06-19-2003, 01:05 PM Glad you put it here, Tru . . . I would not have seen it in the other thread. I'll have to look for the show . . . sounds like a hoot . . .
Probably another one hit wonder show!
Jannie 06-20-2003, 06:35 AM I have to disagree with yall, sounds like another trashy garbage show on t.v. of which I watch very little.
And see they put the TIM with the older woman as an irresponsible loser. MESSAGE: "Only an irresponsible loser would date an older woman and it is aggravating to the parents" I wish they would have more shows that show men loving their wives and wives loving their husbands and maybe a great ym dating an ow because he wants to and the conflict it causes and how it is resolved........I guess I will dream on...lol
Peachy 06-20-2003, 07:38 AM Hey, guys . . . it's not reality TV . . . it's a sitcom . . . you know, laugh, laugh . . . they have to make it funny . . . there is nothing funny about husbands loving their wives and vice versa . . . that's a whole 'nother show!! Time to lighten up!! :D As the sign on my desk says: "Don't take Life so Seriously; It's Not Permanent"
yellowrose 06-20-2003, 10:52 AM The fact that they said "shacking up" tells me they are already making it a negative... but oh well.... what else is new? :)

No there isn't anything funny about "husbands loving their wives and vice versa. . . "
But nowadays, that is what people need to see especially young people, so that people, mainly married couples can see a mirror image of what should be. And that children can see positive things on the tube instead of broken homes and everyone cheating and sleeping with on another.
Sorry peeps, don't want to start another topic or get OT, so I'll stop. I still think it'll be a dumb show, but that is just my opinion.
Damn I miss "Leave it to Beaver!" :(
joe
This and the new show "whoopie" are on tomorrow night. :)
Oh, madam moderator, would you use your powers to put this in the TV section please? Thank you very much. :)
southerngal 09-08-2003, 10:26 PM Of course when I saw the ads for the new show my ears perked up lol. It has the son telling his parents "I love Mrs. (whatever her name is)" who is the older next door neighbor lady.
So when I got my TV Guide in the mail today, the first thing I did was look up the show lol. Its called "Happy Family".
TVG says "Its graduation day for their son and parents Peter and Annie cant wait to have an empty nest. But not so fast. The twist: no diplomas here. The "graduate" is a secret dropout, plus he's having a May-December thing with a neighbor lady..."
I'll be curious to see how they portray the whole ow/ym thing. If its love, or just lust!! I guess we'll find out soon. And yeah, its a sitcom which is supposed to be funny, but I hope they at least give it a little class.

PoliteSuccubus 09-25-2003, 12:37 PM Actually, if you want to know the truth some of the longest running and best loved shows had loving husbands and wives:
I love Lucy!
"LU-cee, I'm HOme!"
The Simpson's
(Many times both Homer and Marge had the chance to cheat, chances to leave, or actually left...but they always came back)
The Honeymooners
(they weren't always happy, but they were always in love and worked things out)
Leave it to Beaver
(While the humor centered on the boys, the husband/wife sitch always maintained.)
I think that comedy writers need to get back to some fundamentals of writing and show how people help each other through adversity and that can make loving relationships stronger by the end of the (humorous) crisis!
Go Brady's!
