Whale Rider

Whale Rider won best flick of the Seattle International Film Festival, where I live, and I see why. Damn good moooovie. Go see this mooovie. you will like this moooovie....:)

Hurray Oxygen network, for putting this flick on TV so soon. It is wonderful, just a tiny bit uneven, but basically wonderful and heart-warming!!! It sure makes up for "Hidalgo" which I saw at the theater the night before.

Although I've not yet seen Mystic River or Lost In Translation, I was really hoping something other than Lord of the Rings would win the Best Picture Oscar last week.

My first choice would have been City of God, one of the best films I've ever seen, but Whale Rider would certainy have deserved the award. Being a low-budget, non-Hollywood movie, simply being nominated is probably merit enough.

What did you find uneven about it Patricia?

Hi Quiet.

Well, I thought that the camera stayed on her face a little too long at times. The scene where the whale goes into the water was missing, so that sort of broke the continuity. There were just a few little things like that. It is a wonderful film with almost no physical violence and some good lessons. Although the emotional abandonment of those children was hard to watch, the girl's struggle to overcome societal tradition and to realize herself and her eventual triumph set a great example for everyone to follow--especially those of us in age gap relationships!
