love2laugh 07-04-2003, 11:41 PM Just heard on the news that Barry White died today. He had the sexiest voice and wonderful sexy music-really great "get in the mood" music
Here is the thread...what kind of music do you'll listen 2 to get in the mood...or just to improve your mood or change your mood?
Peachy 07-04-2003, 11:55 PM I'm sorry to hear that . . . I used to listen to Barry quite a bit back in the '70's. I agree he did have the sexiest voice to put you in the mood. And he sounded pretty great when we were loaded too!:D
love2laugh 07-05-2003, 12:06 AM I found that in dealing with stressful situations of all kinds-music is a wonderful escape.-soothes the soul renews my spirit
Especially in times of stress I find myself going back to songs I heard and loved when I was 20-30 (is this the first sign of old age I hope not!!) I do like a lot of music from today..but just find recently I have rediscovered some of my old favorites
When I need to get back in control-I listen to Tina Turner-REALLY LOUD-she is one really unbelieveable lady
Barry White, Teddy Pendergrass, Marvin Gay, Earth Wind and Fire along with John Mayer, Justin Timberlack mostly for dancing some songs for in the mood
Santana-anytime and all the time-especially really loud in the car when I'm alone (my kids are even getting to like it)
Gypsy Kings when I need to escape to Mexico-but can't get there!
phil collins, enya...there are so many...everything and anything.
yellowrose 07-05-2003, 12:39 AM I really like reggae music. It makes me feel happy.
Moonshadow 07-05-2003, 12:51 AM Cajun Zydeco music does the same thing for me YR ... makes me happy. Unfortunately it also makes my feet think they can dance. :D
manofmisteree 07-05-2003, 02:02 AM When is comes to music i ALWAYS feel like one of the older people on ageless, which is ironic, because i'm actually one of the younger ones. But yeah, prefere classical. I guess i HAVE to like it if i want to teach it.
http://www.eslawrence.com/impressionism/christian_jequel/images/Violinist.jpg
I understand many people find it boring or not quite their thing but you do all enjoy classical music...you just didnt know it:D
For example we've ALL watched looney tunes. They incorporated a LOT of classical music with their cartoons.
This kind of music is great for producing all kinds of moods:
happiness, relaxation, sadness, sexual
Happiness- "Spring" from the Four Seasons by Vivaldi
Relaxation- "Canon in D major" by Pachebel
Sadness- "Meditation" from Thais by Massenett
SEXUAL - "Bolero" by Ravel
So if you haven't given it a try yet, go ahead and do so...if you can seem to get into it, it's good for also putting you do sleep:p
As a matter of fact...get out and try to learn a musical instrument...who knows you might like it! It will definitely increase interest in this genre of music. Who know maybe you were actually a violin virtuoso and didnt know it.

It's NEVER too late to start! As a matter of fact there are tons of people who start when they're 50-60. I'm getting off topic so i'll just end it with this:
Viva La Classical Music:D

Maria 07-05-2003, 05:53 AM So many kinds of music work for me when I want to get rid of some stress or chill out. Brazilian Bossa Nova, which we could describe as a kind of mix of jazz and samba is the most played music worldwide for dinner receptions, hotel lounges, as background music in department stores, in bars...it's relaxing and allows people to talk and think...
My favorite lately is a group that plays a modern kind of tango, the Gothan Project, have a go at it, you'll be surprised! Perfect for relaxing!

singalou 07-05-2003, 06:48 AM nora jones, anything with light jazz saxophone, sting, vancliburn playing brahms on piano....ooooo like santana too.........good stuff here=)
kyrianne 07-05-2003, 08:43 AM I listen to all kinds of music..I love it all actually. Well, okay..except for opera and some rap. Soft, light jazz is mood music for me. Blues can do it too.
What I actually listen to, though, depends on my mood at the moment. If I'm feeling a little down and want to snap myself out of it then pop something up and snappy into the CD player...rock, reggae, carribean, etc. If I wanna have that lil old self pity party then we have to stick with slow, sappy stuff.
As for fave artists..hmmm...tough call for me there. I really have eclectic tastes. My likes range from Barry Manilow..yes, you heard me right..~laffs~.. to Eminem. How's that for a broad spectrum?? ~laughing~smiling~
And Manofmisteree, I'll definately agree with you. When I was about 10 years old my father took me to an auction with him. I insisted in having an old record box set. It was all classical music. My sister, ten years older than me, thought that was hysterical but I really liked that music. I knew then Loony Tunes incorporated it into their cartoons. Also, you didn't mention there are alot of artists that use classical as a 'skeleton' for some of their songs. We hear classical much more often then we realize. And I'll agree too that playing a musical intrument is probably more relaxing to me than anything. I play piano. And yes, what's one of the first 'harder' songs everyone learns when they take piano lessons?? Fur Elise, of course!
So anyhow, summing up here..if I can move to it or sing to it I'm pretty much liking it! One last note..I started singing karaoke about a year ago..and I love it! My most favorite song to sing is Madonna's Hanky Panky. So any fellow karaokians out there, if you haven't tried it, do so! It's a really fun song!
singalou 07-05-2003, 08:50 AM nopes=) for singing it got to be SOLD...at the grundy county auction...John Michael Montgomery=) LOL...gottsa love those country boys:D
PS AND marial...i LOVE to tango and samba...those are some sexy dances there...have to check out Gothan Project=)
(Don't laugh) it's 80's hair bands! Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith (does Aerosmith count as a hair band?) Poison, Whitesnake, Motley Crue, Guns n' Roses, Nelson(anyone else love Nelson? hehe) Extreme
Something about turning up some rock n roll LOUD does it for me! If I am in bad mood it brings me out of it.....if I am down, it makes me smile, if I am stuck in bad traffic it makes it bearable and it definitely makes me uh...in THE MOOD. I mean, think of Def Leppard "Pour Some Sugar On Me" or Aerosmith "Dream On" and doesn't it just sound like songs for hot sex? Hmmm....should I be on the sexually speaking board?
I guess most all rock and roll does it for me as I am a child of the 60's and 70's.
But, as I look at my varied MP3 files.....Barbara Streisand to Evanescence to Vince Gill I guess I have to say ALL music is mood music for me. OOHH! I just saw another great in THE mood song...Faith Hill and Tim McGraw "Let's Make Love".
Oh, and manofmisteree, when I was a child my mom started piano lessons and as she got better the one song she wanted to learn was Meditation from Thais. When the piano teacher would come over my mom would always make her play that song first to give my mom inspiration to keep going. It is beautiful. Is that Pachabel Cannon in D you mentioned the one that a lot of people are playing at weddings now? I plan to have that played one day at mine instead of that wedding march song.
OK, I will shut up now! Get me started on music and I can't stop! My family laughs at me 'cause every other song that comes on the radio I say "Oh! Turn that up! That is my favorite song!"
And boy is it storming here! My electricity is blinking....hmm...should I turn off computer? Naw!

love2laugh 07-05-2003, 11:07 AM While I listed just a few of my favorites..I do love almost all..and FYI manofmisteree even classical at times-Four Seasons by Vivaldi
"Canon in D major" by Pachebel are both favorites. I played violin as a child, but I am not almost embarrassed to tell you I am very interested in learning to play the drums!! what a change is that....I like to think of it as dual therapy-could help with "anger management" LOL and stress reliever!!
and MariaLux-yes samba, Bossa Nova -I love it!! -Sergio Mendez especially CD called Brasileiro and another Arara plus lots of his older stuff....also Getz and Gilberto so smooth and wonderful.. and I do know about Gothem Project-what a small world it is!!
I love almost all rock and roll too. My son listens to heavy metal-and is getting into some of the older bands-but was surprized to hear him listening to Jimi Hendrix the other day!! WOW did that take me back. I think I actually may still have a vinyl of the Doors up in the attic somewhere...wonder if it will work as a frisbee??? or has it melted from the Texas heat LOL
manofmisteree 07-05-2003, 11:24 AM It's nice to hear many of you have played an instrument!
kyrianne-fur elise is probably one of the most well known pieces! i still can't play it up to speed.
Tru-yup Canon in D is the piece that is often played at weddings.
Love2Laugh-No need to feel embarrassed about admitting you want to learn drums. i do also. perhaps if i pick it up, i can't get into a different genre as well. When i hear something like rock n roll i like listeninig to the drums.
:p If you're a member of ageless i'll play at your wedding for free! :D
manofmisteree!!!! That is a very sweet offer! I think that would be so cool to have you play at a wedding of an ageless member! Since you mentioned the Cannon in D and confirmed with me that it is one that is played at weddings, I am assuming you can play it!! WOW! Maybe I can take you up on that offer one day! What a neat wedding story that would make huh?
P.S. Hope you could endure all the rock n roll that would be played at the reception!
haunted 07-05-2003, 11:34 AM 80's Love Ballads.
I love Journey, certain Foreigner songs.
My ultimate is Air Supply.
Genevieve 07-05-2003, 11:57 AM You are a woman after my own heart! Long live hair bands! Everyone knows I'm an EXTREME fanatic. Just ask the life size cardboard stand-up of Nuno Bettencourt that has been in my closet for a long time! (along with the numerous other Extreme memorabilia I have.)
I do like most kinds of music, and Mozart is the classical dude for me..but as far as for sexy and mood setting.. SADE comes to mind, along with a few Marvin Gaye tunes..
Get that hot guy out of your closet!! I would have to put that on my ceiling above the bed. Or in my fantasy world, Joe Elliott of Def Leppard!!! http://pages.prodigy.net/rogerlori1/emoticons/tongue1.gif
If my BF reads this you know I would much rather have your life size cut out above my bed or ideally, you IN my bed. :)

TheChosen1 11-15-2003, 06:43 AM Just about almost any song that is performed by Genesis and/or Phil Collins.
"Groovy Kind of Love"
Captain 11-16-2003, 06:58 PM If I am playing mood music, then she is probably at my place and there is a good chance I am cooking. If that's the case, I like to make up the food to the music. If I am cooking something originating from the U.S., this is a lot easier, and I am probably playing some jazz. I'd prefer to play older standards and jazz. My favorites would for each stage of an evening like this.
Start with something that both of us should know and be able to sing the words to the songs. I want to talk, not sing. But if we know the tunes, then it makes it a little more comfortable.
First CD would be John Coltrane, My Favorite Things. It's great jazz from the 60's but the tunes are familiar to many: My Favorite Things from the Sound of Music; Summer Time a Gershwin song from Porgy & Bess; Every Time We Say Goodbye a Cole Porter Song; and But Not For Me, the last two I might program out. But the first two are definitely getting played.
If I have a few moments before dinner when I am not going to be working, i.e. no cutting, stirring, etc., then I want to play something that we can interact to. Two ways to go here: play something we (or I know) the words to and sing them a bit; or something that I can use to grab her and twirl her around my kitchen. If the former, something like Muddy Waters singing "I just wanna make love to you." One or two bars only.
During dinner, I want to start with something she probably doesn't know, which is very agreeable and doesn't have a lot of changes in volume. Something that can just be played in the background. For this, nothing beats an instrumental by Clifford Brown.
At the close of dinner, I may move the music more towards something romantic. If I put on Sinatra (really cliche) it would be some rarer songs. The first two songs on "The Nearness of You" (the title track and New Kind of Love) would be perfect. End these before dessert is served.
During dessert, something similar to during dinner would be great or you can just move along to the after dinner music right away. If I am making that move, dessert is not served at the table.
After dinner and dessert it would depend on how playful I wanted to be and how well she knew her standards. Of course, we could jsut make our own music. If not, there is an old album by Ray Charles and Betty Carter on CD. It's all duets of old standards, and it works really well.
I wouldn't do this unless I meant it.
