rollypolly 07-15-2003, 01:40 AM What are your favorite theatrical productions?
Mine are in descending order:
Phantom of the Opera
Damn Yankees
Cats
South Pacific
Fiddler on the Roof
Miss Saigon
I would like to see:
Les Miserables
Grease
The Sound of Music
Tyger74 07-15-2003, 01:50 AM RP,
I seen Phantom of the Opera and Miss Saigon. I liked them both and I missed seeing Cats and Les Miserables. Phantom was my total favorite. I would like to see more of Opera played out by Andrea Bocelli. Fiddler on the Roof and Little Shop of Horrors I saw in school (HS)
Moonshadow 07-15-2003, 02:03 AM The most powerful theater experience for me was Evita. I also love the music in Jesus Christ Superstar.
I saw it on Broadway 2 summers ago! Loved it! My kids loved it! We want to see it again!
RENT
The Producers
I have seen some numbers from Rent...it looks awesome.
I have heard good things about The Producers.
Tall Guy 07-15-2003, 02:48 AM Phantom of the Opera
and Defending the Caveman
Phantom is actually in town for about a month. . .i really want to try and score some tickets. But, at this point, i don't see how the hell i'm going to be able to pull that one off. Anyone who has more money than they know what to do with can surely send it to me

You must be a fan of Andrew Lloyd Webber then...:)

suicideblonde 07-15-2003, 02:41 PM I have seen several shows with different casts, thus it is hard to put in descending order. But my favorites are the following:
West Side Story
Camelot
Jesus Christ Superstar
Godspell
A Chorus Line
Hair
1776
The Music Man
You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown
can't wait to see The Lion King, The Producers and Chicago....
ms683 07-15-2003, 03:37 PM My fave theater production would be Paul Stanley as the Phantom of the Opera in Toronto. He did the role May 25 through August 1st & September 28 through October 31 (1999) in The Pantages Theatre. If you want to read more about it, type in Yahoo: paul stanley phantom of the opera...and that will get you to the info.
PinkCat 07-15-2003, 04:01 PM CABARET! sooo good
West Side Story
The King and I
Cats

Michael Crawford set the bar for the Phantom role. I believe he is being asked to wear the mask again for the big screen adaptation.

Maria 07-15-2003, 06:42 PM I saw Les Miserables in São Paulo last January, in Portuguese, and it was just wonderful!
I also loved Notre Dame de Paris, great musical with wonderful songs, and last year, The Ten Commandments...
whiterose 07-15-2003, 07:12 PM I like many that have been named already, especially Jesus Christ Superstar.
Another I like that I hadn't seen listed is Showboat. It was one of the earliest plays that dealt with inter-racial romance. Beautiful music.
Also love Man of La Mancha.
Tall Guy 07-15-2003, 07:18 PM Michael Crawford set the bar for the Phantom role
I agree with that one.
Well, It seems miracles do happen. I was checking out the kgo website, and they had promotion tickets for select Phantom of the Opera showings. So, July 24th at 8pm I will be enjoying it once again, and maybe I can appreciate it just a little bit more this time around. Last time I saw it I was 12 :D
ms683 07-21-2003, 03:12 PM "Michael Crawford set the bar for the Phantom role." I highly disagree...to a point. Someone can set the bar but when another performer comes along and surpasses the original one, well then there is a new bar. I don't know what else to say...
rollypolly 07-21-2003, 08:24 PM Other than that Michael Crawford's portrayal of the Phantom has yet to have been surpassed? He has set the bar..:)
Dan_Shues 07-21-2003, 08:36 PM I've seen Phantom 7 or 8 times...
Saw Peter Karrie, Ethan Freeman and Cirian Sheehan play the role in Toronto and Brad Little play the role in Pittsburgh.
If you ever wanted to hear a truly powerful Phantom...you should of heard Peter Karrie. Some of the parts he did were just truly EVIL! Especially where appropriate. Freeman has a beautiful voice too...
In my opinion, they were better than MC...
I also had the fortune to see Michael Crawford when he was doing a concert tour the other year...came to Pittsburgh and saw it.
Other favorite musicals include Les Mis (The ONLY person that does the main role justice is Colm Wilkinson...who is also a former Toronto Phantom) If you ever get your hands on the 10th (I think) anniversary show...watch at the end...
It has all the people who have played the title role, singing, "Do you Hear the People Sing"....it's so awesome! Different languages and voices.
Also Joseph and the Amazing Tech. Dreamcoat. Another great musical...
As well as Jesus Christ Superstar.
But, I do urge everyone to get ahold of Peter Karrie or Ethan Freeman CD's. They are truly awesome singers.
There is one other musical I like...saw it on PBS the other year. It's a newer one called "Contact".
whisper 07-22-2003, 02:40 AM Phantom of the Opera was my favorite, so far. I also liked Fiddler on the Roof. And, Maria Lux, I have wanted to see Notre Dame de Paris and The Ten Commandments for almost three years. I am dying to see them. I have French CDs from both of them, and they are some of my favorite music. My husband gave me that music as a present when he first came to the U.S.
Maria 07-22-2003, 04:36 AM Whisper, it's true that it was really beautiful, they should go around the world showing it. The original singers were or became famous after that, and I guess it must be very difficult to get them together again in the case of Notre Dame de Paris.
