Lorena 07-15-2003, 05:43 PM I've been weight training with aerobics, but I want to try some pilates, I hear it works the smaller muscles and shapes the body, into lean slender look with dramatic results. Now I'm figuring the mixter between weight training, aerobics and pilates, the combination would work all the muscles in the body, not just the larger muscles. Is anyone here familiar with this and do you think the combination would work your body? Or should it be one or another? My weight trainer works with me in weights and cardio.....does pilate fit in? Any real knowledge would be greatly appreciated.:)
Tyger74 07-15-2003, 06:07 PM what's great about pilates is that it is so similiar to yoga. You will love doing it.
Lorena 07-15-2003, 06:10 PM Ok so they are similiar, what makes them differant?
Tyger74 07-15-2003, 06:15 PM Lorena,
Pilates was used for people who are dancers and performers in a ballet and focused more on having a strong tummy area so they can do a long range of motion and also to tone their leg muscles....as for yoga...it deals with breathing and flexibility and also with meditation. Yoga is more than just an exercise with muscles but focusing on well being. Thanks for calling me cute...I am flattered. :) I believe that yoga helps clear chakras so it is more than just an exercise.
Lorena 07-15-2003, 10:31 PM no-one has explained it this way to me before about pilates.....so if you want strong abs, and a small waist line, pilates would be the thing to do. Now would you happen to know if the combination of doing pilates and weight training with cardio go well together? You seem to know your stuff.
Tyger74 07-15-2003, 10:44 PM As long as you focus on different muscles everyday so that you give your other muscles a chance to rest. For example..monday..all leg exercises...tues all upper body exercises.
Lorena 07-16-2003, 07:10 PM mucho gracias, thanks a bunch:)

1...2....1....2.....
Ok no comment on your Pilates thread just wanted to do a 1....2.... with ya and ohhh say hi *grinzzzzzzz*
Lorena 07-16-2003, 10:22 PM Went to my first pilate class today....really wasn't that hard as I thought it would be, need to work more on my balance tho. And wouldn't you know it my cute lil trainer was teaching it, didn't even know that she knew the stuff, but yea she stated what Tyger said, and the combination is good because all the muscles are being worked. Now how great is that (smile) come on sis you can do it 1---2 again 1--------2, you got it, you go girl lol (wink)
datura81 07-16-2003, 10:39 PM Because it doesn't feel like you're doing anything.....until the next day.
Tyger74 07-16-2003, 10:40 PM Lorena,
That's great..I have the basic pilates video at home but it is creating dust and I have been working on my stretches for jogging/running..trying to tone my legs.
Lorena 07-17-2003, 12:53 PM I just feel some slight warm in my muscles.......it is too easy thats why I better mix weight training and cardio so that I feel as tho I worked out lol......Tyger, you are so cute, put some yoga or pilates in there, being that you are a pro (wink)......Blondie I hear you lol I was just watching the advertisement on that video....if you want you can give us here some of the tips on the diet that she recommends being that all those women are so lean and thin. Let me know how you and your daughter looks after 30 days.:) (wink)
I was wondering, are you doing the Pilates on the "machine" or the kind I have seen on the video informercial that seems to involve no equipment. Is there a difference? Like there are different kinds of yoga. I have thought about finding a place to go who had the Pilates "machine" as one time I saw a bit on it and it looked very interesting. I guess I should read up on it. :)
Lorena 07-18-2003, 05:12 PM no an instructor is teaching it, never have done the machine, I'm new at this pilate too, so I really don't know if there is a differance from the machine verses without one, perhaps someone here who knows will be kind of to answer that question? Also if you find any new info on that please do let us know. Again thankyou for all and any help that you have.:)
