Benny Hill

Growing up in the 80's was awesome for me. During that time I used to watch alot of Benny Hill on tv. I know it was during the 70's that he did most of the sketches. I remember I used to watch it myself and sometimes with my dad. I like the chase scenes they have at the end of the show and it made me laugh so hard and I never can get tired of the show. Does anyone love watching this guy on tv?

Oh man! Benny Hill used to come on at 11 p.m. in Cincy in the '80's. I watched it FAITHFULLY! What an extraordinary comic he was! Also, British t.v. showed breasts and ***, and apparently the network I saw it on forgot to censor that. I thought that was cool too. It made the jokes all that much funnier. I used to love that really old man on there, and he was really short, and Benny Hill would pummel the top of the old man's head with the palm of his hand really fast. That used to crack me up! My friends and I would do that to eachother if one of us made a blunder of some sort. We called it the "Benny Hill" treatment! :D

Lorena,

He is a British comedian and his show was filled with "sexual" content that made people laugh along with singing. I wouldn't say it was like "Monty Python" but it was a something like that.

Rizz, awesome pic!

Polly,

I feel sorry for that old man because Benny loved patting his head alot and I think one time that man wore a toupe' and Benny just whacked it off his head at one point. Don't get me wrong... that skit was funny... and if I meet you I would do the "Benny" treatment and u can do the same lol! I will wear a toupe just to make sure it comes off lol! ;)

Yep, Tyger, Benny Hill is on my list in the Starsky and Hutch thread about favorite TV shows.

He was a classic all right. Too bad he's gone :(

I always felt sorry for that old guy who got slapped on the head:) .
Speaking of Benny Hill, do you remember a show called Bizzar? I think that was the show where I saw Super Dave Osbourne alot.

Hi,

I'm always baffled by Benny Hill's appeal in the US. I also heard that are you being served was popular over there too.

Personally I can't stand Benny Hill, I love some infantile humour and find falling over very funny, but he just doesn't do anything at all for me. I used to watch it as a kid because there were women in very little clothes running around but once I found other things to watch where they wore less clothes the novelty wore off.

To each their own though I guess.

When I was little...my dad and I would stay up to watch it...*LOL*

Yeah, father and young son watching the sometimes risque Benny Hill...

It would be a Saturday Night...

First up for father and son: G.L.O.W. (Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling)...

Who could forget Big Bad Momma, Queen Kong, The Coal Miner's Daughter, Tina Ferarri....etc....

And then, right after that: Benny Hill and Hill's Angels...*LOL*

Too bad they weren't on when I was older...so I could appreciate it better. *LOL*

Dan,

I used to watch GLOW too! I believe it was at the Tropicana where they did it. I remember Farmer's Daughter, Mt. Fiji and Americana. On the side, Mt. Fiji lived in a city near my home and I remember they had this party and the cops were called and I think they arrested some people and it was in the news.

On the lighter side, Benny reminded me of that cartoon "Droopy" because he always gets the pretty women on his side :)

*laughs* boy did that bring back memories, and I'm still a baby. *laughs* I used to watch the dude religiously. have to see it was a good show *hey Sis* perhaps they have them in a library or movie place you can rent the seasons or something, I don't know, all I know at that time I realy liked it. Would I today? Can't tell you but ppls views and ways about them change thru the seasons as they grow in years.

Super Dave was another one I used to watch, it's not here anymore tho. :(

There is another one I watch still, it's called, Keeping up appearances. *lol* It's about a older man and woman who are married, The wife likes to think she is realy something, you know like a queen bee, keeping up with the jones's or outdoing everyone *pretending always she is something she's not, the hubby goes along for the ride mostly, he trys to tell her in so many words just be themselves, but she wont hear of it. They have a gay son, who she pretends is not, just for appearances, her family is kibda riffraff lower end people on the show, but rather than embrassing their life, she's ashamed of it, and when they come to visit her lol she makes sure they even park down the street from her house, and looks out on the street to make sure no neibours seen them comming *laughs* then there is her neighbours who she tends to torment etc....you have to watch it or atleast give it a wirl if you haven't already. There are actual ppl like this in real life, but we don't tend to see it or watch it on a daily basis so it's kinda interesting to see what EXSTREMES the wife is willing to go through just to keep up with appearances haha

P.S ignore typos I didn't feel like spell checking *lazzy a$$*

Rayne, I watch "Keeping up Appearances" too! "Hyacinth" is the fussy main character, a frumpy, middle-aged woman whose last name is "Bucket" but she insists everyone pronounce it "Bouquet"! :D She reminds me of my mom. My mom came from a lower income background (although she still managed to get a degree in Journalism and work for the Chicago Tribune before she met my dad). Anyway, my dad came from an upper class background, so she was always nervous around his family and would "put on airs" to fit in. She puts her side of the family down (much like Hyacinth) but I like them. Sure, they're kind of rednecky, but they're fun to be around and always made me feel comfortable.

I absolutely ADORE Brit humor! "Are You Being Served" is another fave of mine. So are "Mr. Bean" and "Monty Python's Flying Circus". I've seen all of the Monty Python movies. *raising a "Pim's No. 1 Cup" to Brit humor*

Benny Hill was great. a lot of double entendre,.
the only problem i have with british humor is when they mention a celebrity and i have no idea who they are talking about.

"I'm always baffled by Benny Hill's appeal in the US. I also heard that are you being served was popular over there too."

"Are You Being Served" is STILL being shown in the U.S. (in Dallas, at least). I've seen every episode (starting with the black and white ones) multiple times, and have seen all the episodes of "Are You Being Served Again," as well.

The Dallas/Fort Worth PBS station is the largest market for British comedies in the U.S. - they were showing them when I was a small child (I'm 36), even, and have been responsible for introducing a very large number of the shows to American audiences. Given that situation, I grew up with British comedies (particularly "Monty Python"), and still love them to this day.

I LOVE "Keeping Up Appearances" (others have mentioned it), in particular. "Red Dwarf," "The Young Ones," and many others are favorites, too, but my all-time favorite has to be "Black Adder" (with the exception of that crappy time-travel special they made after the series ended).

I love "Are You Being Served." They have one segment about the older woman's cat that is absolutely hilarious. Haven't seen the show in quite a while, but they have always gotten away with much more than was allowed by the censors here in the states.
