I saw a brief segment on this new pill to reduce the number of menstual periods that a woman has to 4 per year. It is still under research but could be available as early as this fall.

Seasonale contains a combination of two hormones commonly used in other oral contraceptives, but in significantly lower doses, so basically you just take them like birth control pills but there's no week of placebos.

I've had my tubes tied years ago, so I've not had to deal with oral contraceptives for quite some time, but the thought of fewer periods is quite appealing.

Any thoughts on this?

it is possible to skip periods with regular birth control pills, i read about it in a magazine a year or so ago, (you skip the placebos) i tried it out of curiosity, and it worked! it is great if there is a special weekend or something coming up.

on a related note, check out this link to a healthy alternative to tampons: (i am a pleased customer)

I think it's okay to supress a period now and then for an important event in life, but not to do it routinely. The uterus is designed to empty out once a month if no conception takes place, and if you mess with that consistantly over the years, it can't be good.

I have been getting the
Depo for years not for the birth control effect but so I didn't get a period which is nice and I for one did not get older and fatter depends on the person...could just be her lifestyle not the shot.

Also U say the uterus is supposed to empty out each month....ummm thats not true... sorry but what this birth control does it PREVENT your body from accumulating a lining in your uterus in the first place so U DON"T have to shed it... it never even starts. It basically makes your body go into a constant pregnancy phase due to hormones.
