Savannah 08-06-2003, 10:50 AM Hello, Mike, and welcome!
You live in my home town!!! (Although I've been in Canada for over 30 years)
Don't be shy -- join into the discussion threads -- there are lots of really nice people here.
Good luck!
Young-gun-mike 08-06-2003, 10:59 AM Hi, thanks for the reply, So how are u? Where in aberdeen did u used to stay? Im in dyce, Hope ure keepin well, plz reply xx
Savannah 08-06-2003, 11:53 AM Lucky me, I lived on Donmouth Rd., in Bridge of Don. Two minutes walk to the beach.
The airport is in Dyce, so I've passed through a few times.
My grandparents later moved to Balmedie, so I spent a lot of visits there, as well as in Ellon. (Okay, for shopping I had to come into Aberdeen!) One of my dogs -- the one in the avatar -- is named after the Ythan River -- which nobody can pronounce correctly here!
I still miss the parks: Duthie, Hazlehead. Is it Duthie that has the goldfish pond where they swim up and BEG when a human approaches? And I miss real chips, and mealie puddings, and Aberdeen rolls............
Young-gun-mike 08-07-2003, 03:32 AM Yeh that would be duthie park, Do you know where links road is in the bridge od don? So you miss all the fine foods do u! I was in Balmedie yesterday, i was at the beach with my dog, Lovely day to go, do you miss Aberdeen? plz reply xx
ukfireball 08-07-2003, 04:30 AM Hello Mike, I also live in Aberdeen, I have been here for a year, and I go to King's college university; the weather is great here today !
Savannah 08-07-2003, 01:54 PM Yes, I still miss Aberdeen! I haven't been back since '95, though we had been going every two years before that. I have no close family members left there now.
On one visit, my father challenged me to walk with him from Balmedie to Aberdeen via the beach -- forgetting the rifle range along the way, fortunately no one was shooting that day. (My mother took the bus and met us at Donmouth Rd.) I used to see folks walking their dogs on the beach all the time, and think how much my dogs would enjoy it!
We've walked Links Road (to the Royal Aberdeen Golf Club -- my father worked there as a caddy in his teens) many times, as well as in the other direction to Brig o' Balgownie. And my parents had to show me the Beach Ballroom, where they met.
What kind of dog do you have, Mike?
Young-gun-mike 08-08-2003, 03:22 AM Hi, how are u 2day? Im very well I have a cairn terrier, his name is benn, y best friend lives on links road that why i asked, so when do you come to Aberdeen then? I think ure realy friendly and thanks for that, Im goin to balmedie beach soon with the dog to keep him happy, only problem is, he loves to try get down rabbit wholes, (silly boy), well anyway take care and hope to hear again from you, mike xx
Savannah 08-08-2003, 01:27 PM Both of my dogs are too big to fit more than a nose in a rabbit hole -- that only means they would start digging real fast! Savannah (the real one, that is, not ME!) would love chasing rabbits; Ythan would be in the ocean swimming.
I would love to go back -- I'd fly over in a heartbeat if I had somewhere to stay, it's the accomodation that's expensive. You don't know anyone running a cheap B&B do you?
Hey, is the Joss firm (lorries) still around? My great-aunt was married to one of the original Joss brothers.
Young-gun-mike 08-09-2003, 03:51 AM hi again, that last question im not to sure abot, well i work in a hoel if u wanted me to get you a cheap room, how olong would it be for though? in a rush, sorry will write more nxt time, sory xxxplz reply
Savannah 08-10-2003, 10:55 AM Hmmmm -- what's a "cheap" room? I've usually visited for 3 weeks because of the cost to fly over, but that was when I could stay with my grandmother for free.
And only if I can borrow your dog to go walking on the beach!
Young-gun-mike 08-10-2003, 11:25 AM Well il find out a price when i go to wok which will be 2moro, So it would be for three weeks u said? You could walk my dog if you wanted to, but beware, he will run away from you so youll have to chase him lol, he should be ok, When you coming over? xxxx
Savannah 08-10-2003, 01:21 PM I'm on the last of my holidays for 2003 right now, so I have to wait until at least 2004. A friend and I were thinking of going to Spain next year, but now we're planning that trip for 2005, so maybe Scotland next summer?? A lot depends on work, and what job they have me doing; sometimes I can't plan anything, because I have to be available on short notice.
When I was there in '95, I went in Feb, and I'm not keen on going off-season again -- I like more than 3 hours of daylight a day!
Not sure I can outrun a cairn......... I will have to arm myself with bribes. One of mine is a bolter, but her heart is in her stomach, so she will always return for food!
