As a bi-focal wearer, options for contact lenses have always been limited. Bausch & Lomb now makes a contact lens for bi-focal wears called "Multi-focal lenses". Has anyone had any experience with these lenses or made a successful transition from bi-focals to contact lenses?

I did recently try the Unilens which is the same concept, but a different manufacturer. I think they probably could work if you can wear the contacts. I started with contact lenses over 30 years ago when hard lens were all they had (and wore them for 10 years), then went to soft when they came out, but had astigmatism and couldn't wear them so went to flex lens. About 8 years ago I had RK surgery for the distance vision and it has held pretty well, but do have some correction for distance if I drive at night. I also need reading glasses, so thought the unilens would be a good thing. But they felt like gunk on my eyes because I don't tear enough anymore for them. I do have a friend who swears by them though so I would say they are worth you giving them a try.

Thank you for the information. I will definately give them a try. If the surgery was covered by insurance, I wouldn't hesitate to have that done. I did hear it holds up very well over time. Hopefully, I'll wear them successfully like your friend .. and avoid the "gunk in the eye" syndrome!

From what I understand, the lasik surgery is about $2,000 per eye and not covered by insurance. I do know a few people who have had it done with much success.
