Embarrassing music

After reading some depressing postings in the relationship sections I though id lighten things up, I have a very dark disturbing secret, that I am truly ashamed of and I would like to confess to all here and now .I found an old vinyl single in the garage by a British artist called Alvin Stardust (lol) it's called my Coo ca choo and was quite a big hit in the 70`s . I used to love it when I was little and secretly (don't tell anyone) i still do (oh the shame).i have a quite good taste in music normally and it's all up to date and could be considered trendy but I would feel humiliated if anyone saw this it in my collection and when I played it I kept it really low in case any of the neighbours heard, and then put it back in the bag in the garage out of the way. if I heard it in the company of friends I would call it rubbish and laugh at it but I still get it out now and then late at night when I close the curtains and check no-one is around and it still makes me smile......
Have you got anything in your collection from your youth maybe that you love but wouldn't admit to friends you do, Jimmy Osmond ?. Achy breaky heart ?, the ones you stick to the back of your collection and people laugh at if they see. Come on confess your sins you naughty people you'll feel better for it in the end

I have a 45 (anyone remember those?) of "The Archies" singing "Sugar Sugar" and I am too old for Jimmy Osmond but I am not that ashamed to say I have many of the Osmond's records and mainly Donny's. "Go Away Little Girl" and "Puppy Love" still make me want to swoon for him. Hehe

ok,ok.. up until recently.. I still had the David Cassidy/Partridge Family 45 "I think I love you".. haha.. And.. recently, Davy Jones of the Monkees was singing at a festival near here, so I dragged the kids along, and created a new Davy Jones fan out of my 9 year old daughter! I had to get her a Monkees CD.. :D

OMG! I LOVE THE MONKEES! DAVID CASSIDY TOO! (oops, I am supposed to be embarassed by this) Ok I guess I am slightly! hehe

I LOVED SUGAR SUGAR AND STILL DO....and I loved CREDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I see a bad moon arising, I see trouble on the way, don't go out to night, .........

Just about a year ago, I set out on my own, seekin my fame and fortune, lookin for a pot of gold, things got bad and things got worse, I guess you know the tune, OH LORD stuck in Lodi , again......

I love the Archies/Bobby Sherman/Tom Jones/The Osmonds...I actually meet Donny and Marie at church/The Jackson 5/Barry Manilow/Bay City Rollers and Virgen Megastore is having a $10.00 cd/dvd sale, so guess what...I've brought all of them again on cd....lol

Oh and the 5th Dimension, James Brown...."Say it loud, I'm black and I'm proud"....ok so I'm Rican...lol

Toni Tenille had really big TEETH! Every time I saw her on t.v., with her 70's page-boy hair do, all I could focus on was her incredibly big TEETH! Oh, and big gums too! That geeky Captain guy would sit back, all reserved and playing his whatever he played (keyboard? skin flute?) and she would sing those ridiculously cheesy songs all bubbly and flambouyantly...ahhh the '70's! :D

Okay, my embarrassing truth: I had a 45 recording of "Let's Do It Again" by ???? It was a pop/R&B tune, the theme of a movie out at the time I believe, and I just thought that song was so cool! I loved Micheal Jackson (pre-surgeries) when he sang, "ABC", "Oh Baby Give Me One More Chance", and "Ben" (about a rat!!!) I was 9 or 10 at the time, but that's what was hot back then. Oh God, I just remembered another one..."Kung-Fu Fighting"!!! Will the shame never end???

Who will admit to watching Tony Orlando and Dawn? And ok.. as a teenager, I had a VERY large shirtless poster of Peter Frampton with those golden locks on my wall!!

And has anyone seen Leif Garret lately? Or Tony DeFranco and the DeFranco family??

I saw the Cowsills at a state fair too. God I thought I'd die, I loved them so much.

My secret weakness though was and always will be Arlo Guthrie.
I loved that skinny body in Alice's Resteraunt, the scene in his tighty whities, wow!
I've gotten to see him twice in person in the last three years, in fact I drug David to see him last year, and he's now a fan.
I have that little clip from Woodstock where he's so screwed up talking about the freeway being closed on my comp and when I need an Arlo fix, I play it. Comin' into Los Angeles, la la la la...
Most people, if they know who he is, think he'd died years ago...
I even did my research paper in nursing school on Huntington's Chorea, since that's what his dad died of, and he had a 50% chance of having it too.

Yep, I remember Leif and the Defrancos have their own website. I found them at google...tony is still a hottie.

Let's not forget...Sonny and Cher/Three Dog Nite/tokens...they sing the Lion sleeps tonight/Bar kays (?), they sang a song called Goldfinger and I also have the Partridge Family and have started collecting the season collections on dvd.

I've had some embarrasing moments. One time the priest from the church swung by to give me communion since my grandma was over and I gotta make it look like I do something church related so she don't have another heart attack.

So during communion the alarm on my stereo goes off and it plays a rap cd I had in there, not a "nice" cd, and this one line comes on and it says "I talk reckless, I really want the coke and the money but I'll settle for yo neckless"

Needless to say I almost passed out.

Okay, ever since I read this thread a few days ago, more crap from the seventies has found it's way back into my consciousness!

How about "That's the Night That the Lights Went Out in Georgia" by Helen Reddy, or "Delta Dawn"! I thought that song was sooooo cool! :D

I remember the Sonny and Cher show, it was on prime time television, and I never missed it. She used to come out in those outrageous dresses and sing, "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves" or "Half-Breed"! They'd always close the show with "I Got You Babe" and bring out their little daughter, Chasity.

Okay, you guys are REALLY going to hate me for this one..."Billy, Don't Be a Hero" by the Haywoods! Is that song the worst thing ever written by a human, or what?

How about "S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y Night"? I forget who that was by, some cheesy boy group, but it was a huge hit at the roller rink on Saturday night.

There's only one more song that I can think of that is truly the worst song ever, and the writer should be shot..."Having My Baby"!!!

"MONSTER MASH" I would surely be embarassed to admit I liked that song. I remember my radio station had a "top 10" request line every Friday night and "Color My World" was my favorite song and it was always in the top ten (usually number one) even though it was a little older song...but then came MONSTER MASH...it bumped Color My World out of the number one spot like 3 weeks!! It became the contest for a while to see who would win. I would call over and over to vote on Color My World!!

I think you have just found THE one that I can truly say tops the list of music you may like but not want to play in public.... (not in the UK anyway) why ?. You may be interested to know that the British artist Gary Glitter was HUGE in the UK having many many hits (several No1), until a few years ago when he took his computer to be fixed and they found hoards of child pornography on it, and allegations where made about other things etc. etc. and it ended up with him being arrested (not for mentioning on here), after spending some time in prison and now living in exile where the newspapers still chase him and exposing his activitys. His music is never EVER played on the radio in the UK anymore and never appears in the shops either, on a recent review of mthe 70`s on a tv show i noted that although his name was mentioned, even they washed over his contribution to music from sheer embaressment, Far from being normal I think in the UK that would be quite High in the embarrassing hide it away section of your collection and many would see it as a piece of music by a pedophile, I don't think people in America are aware of this at all .
All very sad. i know it was a piece of music i liked and now it seems to have been tinted

Don't know if he actually wrote "Havin' My Baby", but I think Paul Anka recorded it.

ABBA had a little popularity revival not long ago, which really irked me, because my mother wanted me to like them, and bought me every album. I think she was trying to counteract my heavy metal tastes with the nice, wholesome-looking Swedish couples. So I hated them!!

As my name is Michael I always got ribbed when Toni Basil came on the radio singing "Hey Micky" and I always hated here pomp pomps and wanted to stick them up her nose.

The Four Seasons. Frankie Valley. My father asked me why I had to listen to a man who sang so high only dogs could hear.

Toni Basil might well be the most annoying creature on Earth, but I have to say that I saw her on the "Where are they Now?" segment of VH1, and she looks absolutely fabulous! She looks just like she did in the '80's! I don't know how she pulled that one off, but after seeing so many other artists just fall apart physically (can anyone say 'Ann Wilson'?) she really kept herself well. She deserves kudos for that, and then a shot in the head for that ANNOYING song! :D

My niece and nephew just love him. I believe they have one with Santa Claus swining his hips and butt for Christmas. I've been meaning to get one, but I really love Frankie, don't know where my cousin got him.

And yes, Paul Anka wrote and sang having my baby.

I have a few over the years myself..Toast and Marmalade for Tea by Tin Tin (Aussie band early 70's), Crocodile Rock by Elton John, Too Late To Turn Back Now by Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose, We Got the Beat by the Go's Go's and Heart of Glass by Blondie. I make sure to lock the doors and draw the curtains to play these classics...;)

If Frankie is purple, with fluffy black hair, and is roughly a foot high -- I have Frankie too.

I bought him as a Hallowee'en decoration for work. Problem is that Frankie is pretty loud, and that song goes on and on -- and sure as fate every time someone got him started, the phone would ring.....
