Patricia 08-24-2003, 01:05 AM Hi Jake.
Welcome to Ageless. I love French film, so it was a delight to read your post and realize that there is someone else on the site who is a fan. Actually, all the films you listed sound very interesting. Please continue to post when you see a good one.

ukfireball 08-24-2003, 12:07 PM I love French films, and I need to go and watch those Jake; I have seen some old ones, Delicatessen and Les Apprentice, which is really funny :D
melisande 08-28-2003, 09:39 PM hmm.
in 'kung fu master' a 40 year old woman and a 15 year old boy fall in love. is their relationship doomed? yes.
in 'the piano teacher' a self destructive 48 year old woman is pursued by her arrogant 25 year old student. is their relationship doomed? yes.
in 'stay the night' (not a french film, by the way) an older woman and younger man plot to kill her husband. is their relationship doomed? oh yeah!
in 'tadpole' 16 year old oscar has a crush on his stepmother, but ends up banging her best friend after getting smashed. is their relationship doomed? who cares? his boner is for his stepmom (also not a french film, bien sur).
do we see a pattern here? je pense qui oui. now let me recommend a film about OW/YM in which the relationship is NOT doomed:
"Love and Pain and the Whole Damn Thing", starring Timothy Bottoms and Maggie Smith. lovely and delightful from beginning to end. and not french!
vive le cinema
very perceptive observation on your part! I will go check out "Love and Pain and the Whole Damn Thing". I love both Timothy Bottoms and Maggie Smith. Now I have to watch "White Palace" and this one. Two down...3456* to go. (*Movies I want to watch)
Thanks for the recommendation.
Patricia 08-29-2003, 09:10 PM One of the best films ever made is "A Bout de Souffle" ("Breathless") with the great Jean-Paul Belmondo. It is a New Wave masterpiece.
There is a classic French comedy which is worth seeing called Les Vacances de M. Hulot" ("Monsieur Hulot's Holiday"). It is really funny. The humor is timeless.
Another brilliant classic is "Hiroshima, Mon Amour" about an interracial love affair in Japan. Very sensual.
Wow, there are so many great ones that it is hard to recommend just a few.

swanqueen 09-10-2003, 07:13 PM That is one I may have to buy also. What did you find so intriguing about it? I loved how she deviously tried to help others, so ingenious. I also loved the voice over with the little "pictures" of what was being said for lack of a better word. Of course I loved how it protrayed life as a series of ..... what word, circumstances, chance, what is the word.... It was touching, meaningful, real, romantic. Funny as hell.
Maria 09-10-2003, 07:25 PM Amelie is innocent, it's so pure, it has an air of the fifties to it, I don't know why...I love how they played with the colours in this movie. It's just so magic, so naïf. One of my favorites.
PoliteSuccubus 09-17-2003, 01:58 PM I refer you, dear sir and ladies, to the post of my 22 movie reviews of OW/YM films.
Not French, however.
It's hard to get to see foreign films in Alaska unless you buy them, and then if they are no good, you are stuck with them.
Patricia 10-02-2003, 08:28 PM The gnome is my favorite character in "Amelie". What a great actor!

whisper 10-03-2003, 06:10 PM MooseY, I think that Le Diner de con is a hilarious movie. My husband and I laughed so much when we saw that film. I haven't seen Le Placard, but I'm going to ask my husband about it as soon as he gets home.
whisper 10-03-2003, 06:19 PM Oh, brother, my memory is the pits. My husband just reminded me that we saw Le Placard together and thought it was really funny. I had forgotten the name of the film, though.
