nafadda 08-28-2003, 08:05 PM I think I could turn and live with animals, they are
so placid and self - contain'd,
I stand and look at them long and long.
They do not sweat and whine about their condition,
They do not lie awake in the dark and weep for their
sins,
They do not make me sick discussing their duty to God,
Not one is dissatisfied, not one is demented with the
mania of owning things,
Not one kneels to another, nor to his kind that lived
thousands of years ago,
Not one is respectable or unhappy over the whole
earth.
So they show their relations to me and I accept them,
They bring me tokens of myself, they evince them
plainly in their possession.

Softsong 08-28-2003, 08:38 PM They truly are much less complicated and "honest." They have their inborn ways, might eat you! But they do what they must without rationalization. And they can also show much love and devotion to their offspring and the humans they share their world with.

mmmmmm.I bet we would be chewy on the outside and crunchy on the inside...or was that a KLONDIKE bar:confused:
I never think of them being able to eat me,but just last month ago a gator ate a teenager:( you have to be VERY careful should you decide to get in the water with them.
SnowPrincess 08-28-2003, 09:47 PM I just sent Naf, this a few days ago, this just happened here, Saturday, (2 miles away)
If I would have even known or heard stories of it I would have narked them out in a heartbeat..........
I am going to the court hearings, I really do want to see which neighbors I may live by that are SICK!! They showed the dogs on the news all bloodied and the cage they had them in a approximately 10x10 painted red wooden area. These people as I have heard are upper middle class, to live in the area they are well to do, their kids and the kids that were there go to school with mine! Well heres the story: and ps give your dog a hug tonight, some aren't treated as well as ours are..............
Two Pit Bulls Dead; Dog-Fighters Arrested
Two dogs are dead and their owners are behind bars after authorities busted an alleged dog fighting ring in Chisago County.
Authorities were called to a rural address in North Sunrise Township Saturday evening after receiving a call from a woman who claimed her life was being threatened.
They didn't find the woman, but they say they did find 50 men, women and children in a pole barn cheering two pit bulls in a fight to the death.
Captain Douglas Sampson of the Chisago County Sheriff's Department says the two dogs that were fighting when the officers were there were in bad shape.
Animal control was called to the scene. A vet deemed the dogs were in such bad condition, they had to be euthanized.
Authorities issued 35 misdemeanor citations at the scene. The property owner and another man face felony dog fighting charges.

Softsong 08-29-2003, 05:42 AM My grown son is living with me temporarily with his family while they save for their deposit for a home. He has a pitbull and while he looks scary, he is a most affectionate pet. Been in the family with two babies and never any trouble for us. I'd hate to be a burglar though....LOL
They are so loyal to their owners, and impervious to pain.....this is one reason they are bred to fight and will fight to the death.
What a pity. At one time they stood so much for faithfulness, that RCA used them as the dog on the old victrola ads. Boy does that date me! And Pete the dog on Our Gang was most likely a pit, as was Buster's dog Tide on Buster Brown shoes......
nafadda 08-29-2003, 07:53 AM most people should not own pitbulls......I have had them for over 20 years and have 2 now,but I'm not most people...I know how to treat animals with kindness and pitbulls need that.
hope this isn't too spicey...just replying to this poem I posted yesterday.
ukfireball 08-29-2003, 09:00 AM I was sitting next to the river the other day, watching these dogs, they were just so happy and joyful to be there, wagging their tails, running around; one dog spend ages playing with an empty ice cream carton, running around with it, so much fun with something so simple.
I saw a documentary once, about one of the Rolling Stones (can't remember which one) had made a friend, with a native Indian in the Amazon forests, on a trip he made there; He bought this Guy back to London for a vacation, showing him how we live, what we do, and bought him lots of clothes and souvenirs; on his return to the Amazon, he gave away all these possessions to his fellow tribe mates, so they would have the pleasures, he had with them, leaving himself with nothing; it is so sad to see the way we live sometimes.
