Wierd subject line, ain't it?

*LOL*

Song lyrics have always been powerful to me. I believe the way the artist sings them...can add so much power to them. But....lyrics have always spoken volumes to me...and they have effected my life...

Since I started to mature and could understand my own emotions...(not all the time, sometimes, though I could!)...especially when I am in love with someone? Some lyrics stand out more than others. Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Music of the Night" and others from Phantom of the Opera...Doo Wop/Oldies songs...and country music as well.

For some reason, radio stations don't play only but selected songs. While going to lunch with my co-workers today...he had the latest Toby Keith CD..and played a track I never heard before, but...I thought it was cool. It almost reminded me of something perhaps Conway Twitty would sing. It's just a cool little song...sung soft spokenly, slow and almost like a ballad...

Just off of the two-lane where the school bus used to stop
Was a little wooden A-frame with a yellow tin roof top
One day it was raining on this world
She said 'have you ever really, really ever kissed a girl?'

Baby I'll be your Huckleberry, you don't have to double dare me
If the storm gets wild and scary count on me to be right there
You're so extra ordinary sweet like maraschino cherries
We'll grow up and we'll get married
I'm gonna be your Huckleberry

Later on that summer we went to the county fair
They had a brand new roller coaster and everyone was scared
It was two bucks to experience the thrill
She said 'come on boy let's get in line I'll ride it if you will'

Baby I'll be your Huckleberry, you don't have to double dare me
If the ride gets wild and scary count on me to be right there
You're so extra ordinary sweet like maraschino cherries
We'll grow up and we'll get married
I'm gonna be your Huckleberry

Snuck off on a slow dance at the junior/senior prom
Went lookin' for some romance before I had to get her home
Steamin' up the windows of my car
She said 'until I get my wedding ring boy we can't go that far'

Baby I'll be your Huckleberry, you don't have to double dare me
If the world gets wild and scary count on me to be right there
You're so extra ordinary sweet like maraschino cherries
We grew up and we got married
Now look at those three little Huckleberries

Toby Keith is "the MAN" in country music.....he is soooooo coool.

I just LOVE the song "I WANNA TALK ABOUT ME" and the video is GREAT.

I have loved him since I first heard him about 10 years ago and am glad he is getting the attention he deserves now(like 9 CMA award nominations this year)

If you have not heard songs like,"you shouldn't kiss me like this, unless you mean it like that",or "dreamwalkin",or "I'll never smoke WEED with Willie again",you should check them out....

yea,I may be a Pearl Jam fan...but TOBY KICKS *** TOO:eek:

I don't know this song but I bet she does. Thanks Dan for the lyrics. I always look up the lyrics to a song. I so agree with you about song lyrics being so powerful. They are like poetry you know? They have touched me too so often.

I love Toby Keith. What is it with the Huckleberry thing? I read the lyrics to that song you posted, and the I remembered, I think it was in the movie Tombstone??? Where Val Kilmer played Doc Holliday?? (btw...Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday=HOT!!!)...

Anyway, in that movie Doc Holliday said, when another man was out looking for a fight..."Im your Huckleberry", meaning, I suppose, he was willing to take him on.

Is the Huckleberry thing some old saying I am not familiar with?

Huckleberry information, please??? :)

I was thinking that maybe as Huck was Tom Sawyers best friend it is a reference to being a best friend.

Joannalee,

I'm going to guess it's a reference to HuckleBerry Finn, in both cases.

I can remember, "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn." In the song's case....I believe he's saying he'll be her Huckleberry, meaning that he'll be her adventure? He'll go with her, on her adventures through life and such?

Does that make any sense?

I think it also applies to the Doc Holiday example as you posted? Just a thought, 'tis all.

A word origin site provided this definition of huckleberry:

According to the Dictionary of American Regional English, "huckleberry" meant, as you've discovered, "the desired or suitable person" for a task, or just an all-around nice person or even "sweetheart."

If my memory serves me .. isn't that phrase also in the old song "Moon River"?

Seems everyone was on the right track.

YES! I love that song and the movie!!

"two drifters, off to see the world
there's such a lot of world to see
we're after the same rainbow's end, waitin' 'round the bend
my huckleberry friend, moon river, and me"

I cry every time!
