Harrison 08-30-2003, 09:58 PM Madonna kissing Brittany at the MTV awards ceremony.
I thought it was very sensual. :p
If you agree, why do you think we give a double-standard privilege to women who pull stunts like that?
Certainly we wouldn't be wowed if Tom Cruise was to lock lips with Antonio Banderas on national TV, would we? Many of us, especially guys, would probably be grossed out.
Some weird pyscho-sexual stuff going on here.
Moonshadow 08-30-2003, 11:10 PM I think it was two shameless attention seekers looking to make some tongues wag. Literally. :D
Jo-Admin 08-30-2003, 11:12 PM Ditto....
Too contrived. Too staged.
Tall Guy 08-31-2003, 03:37 AM Hey, look at it this way:
It was an OW/YW kiss on TV that reached millions of viewers!

Funny, had pretty much the same discussion with my YM about it yesterday - he thought it quite hot, two chicks kissing - but he would be TOTALLY "grossed out" about two guys doing it - for me this is definitely double-standard
Personally, I don't care either way what two people do, same sex or not ;) <shrug> Consenting adults, and stuff ... - for whatever their reason might be ;)
But the double-standard among guys there kinda irritates me ... - so, I WOULD be interested to find out what the "psychological" issue behind male reaction here is, tbh :D
So, Harrison - or any other guy out there - what's YOUR explanation for the - predominantly male, it seems - double standard?! (and no, didn't get much enlightened by discussing it with my guy :D )
Carazy 08-31-2003, 05:12 AM Trish,
sounds reasonable enough to me :D ... any input from the guys here?!
Harrison 08-31-2003, 06:30 AM Yes, I tend to agree with Trish (no need to kill her ;))
and I also think that there is plenty of homophobia
among men that makes it easier to be titillated by
woman-on-woman displays of sexual affection.
Personally, I have never been interested in lesbian
porn or lesbian erotica. I just happened to watch
the TV when my wife had it on. They were replaying
the kiss in slow motion, so that also affected how I
saw it.
I think the fact that Madonna is a very attractive
older lady with massive sex appeal has something
to do with it. I don't think that seeing ANY two
women kissing would be all that cute. LOL
DHShogun 08-31-2003, 06:39 AM I don't even wanna know where Madonna has been. Yuck. That kiss came on my tv, and after the slow motion reply I thought my TV caught herpes.
Harrison 08-31-2003, 06:46 AM You have an excellent point, DHShogun!!
One would not want to have any broken skin anywhere in or around the mouth when getting a kiss from Madonna. :(
Jannie 08-31-2003, 07:23 AM Well personally, I thought it was disgusting and so did my kids...who happened to see it on an AOL news thing. Cant understand why it even made the news. I have always thought Madonna was a fruitcake and was homely and Brittany Spears gets called a HO by every young teenage girl I know, so don't know where her fan club is. Im thinking it was an act that is supposed to give some appeal to their declining careers. AND I agree with Shogun, I woundn't touch Madonna with a 10-foot pole.
:) Have a great day folks!!!
did you like it? :D J/K J/K hehe
Figaro 08-31-2003, 11:25 AM Well I didn't see the kiss but... I would think that this would not be so spectacular. I mean... who cares? Just another little publicity stunt for the rich and famous so that they remain so.
But for the record... I've had a crush on madonna since I was like 6 yrs old. I'd kiss the hell out of her. I'd kiss her neck, her navel, her toes, her.....
Figaro
irparis 08-31-2003, 12:49 PM I'm with Jannie, I thought it was gross too, just as I find it gross with two guys. I didn't watch any of the rest of the show, thank goodness I was at my brother's house and don't have cable to watch at my own so I could walk away.
As for the women being comfortable in their sexuality, I don't believe it. I think women become comfortable with their sexuality as they get older because they owe up to their emotional and physical well being to accept themselves for who and what they are. Yes, we can find other women attractive, only when we feel just as attractive, but let their partners also find other women attractive and mention it and we become plague with insecurites and self doubt. I think when we're younger we especially have a hard time hearing our b/f - g/f comment that so and so is a hot chick/guy.
As for the younger women, e.g. brittany spears, christina, jho...lol..that's what she's called in my neighborhood...they're appear to be comfortable with their sexuality because the media and their managers have exploited them so to appear that way...but I always wonder what personalility changes will they go through when they no longer have the look to feed the masses. Their sexuality comes from us...the consumers of their goods...they are who they are because the public feed into their lives, we are the drugs that make them behave as they do, but when their 60/70 even 50/40 and all the adoration is gone, I would really like to see them then. As you can see Madonna in her 40s, has to continually struggle for the adoration, she's getting older, shoot, Cher/Tina/Aretha, they look better then her. So they struggle very hard to maintain that look...exercise, face lifts, spas...I see a different sexuality at play here, of coming to grips with time marching across your face and body...the window is rapidly closing. I find guys in the public eye can take it or leave it, which is why you won't find alot of them needing to go to these media events, they hate the publicity and the attention, although they know it goes hand in hand.

Jannie 08-31-2003, 03:20 PM NO TRUE I did not like it. LOL
HEY THIS IS A NEW SONG AND SPEAKS WHAT I THINK ABOUT ALL CELEBRITIES NOW DAYS: especially fitting is the term Jackass Millionaires....:)
WHEN YOU ARE A CELEBRITY
Someday I'm gonna be famous,
Do I have talent, well, no.
These days you don't really need it,
Thanks to reality shows
Can't Wait to date a supermodel,
Can't Wait to sue my dad.
Can't wait to wreck a Ferrari
On my way to rehab....
Chorus-
Cause when you're a Celebrity
It's adios reality
You' can act just like a fool
People think you're cool
Just cause your on TV.
I can throw major fits
When my latte isn't just how I like it
They say I've gone insane,
I'll blame it on the fame,
And the pressures that it goes with
Being a Celebrity
uh huh
I get to cry to Barbara Walters,
When Things don't go my way.
I'll get community service
No matter which law I break
I'll make the supermarket tabloids,
They'll write some awful stuff
But the more they run my name down,
THE MORE MY PRICE GOES UP!
Chorus-
Cause when you're a Celebrity,
It's adios reality.
No matter what you do,
People think you're cool,
Just cause you're on TV.
I can fall in and out of love,
Have marriages that barely last a month.
When they go down the drain
I'll blame it on fame
And say it's just so tough.
Being a Celebrity
So let's hitch up the wagons and head out west
To the land of fun in the sun
We'll be real world bachelors
Jackass Millionaires
Hey, Hey, Hollywood
Here we come!
Chorus-
Yeah, When you're a Celebrity
It's adios reality
No matter what you do,
People think you're cool,
Just cause you're on t.v.
...Being a Celebrity
...Yeah Celebrity!
...uh-huh
"Where's my coffee?"
irparis 09-01-2003, 12:45 PM good one Jannie
I'm going to have to send that to my niece who just graduated from college with a major in theatre...thank goodness, she's smart enought to minor in teacher education.
Paris
Mîdñî†ê®åýñê 09-01-2003, 03:07 PM I think it was more for shock value, than anything else, not to mention, something for the media to talk about, OHH DID madonna just get some more media play? lol ha I guess ppl do whatever it takes to get noticed when there falling behind the scenes or is that forgotten? *grinz*
As for Brittney I think she is beginning to lie with the dogs, which is a pure shame, seeing some many little kids and younger ppl have and do look upto her, she should of placed her rolemodel skills doing something else, now how many ppl that are younger look upto her, have been washed down another odd path.
No comment on Christina.
Harrison 09-01-2003, 06:21 PM Um, NO!! ;)
larasteele 09-02-2003, 12:04 AM That's their job. That's how they have choosen to make a living for themselves.
As for this, I have to disagree here:

Stop a minute and consider the difference between the person (Madonna) and her PERSONA. It was show biz!! Not life....
The extraordinary woman that is Madonna made a choice a long time ago...she knew what she "wanted to be when she grew up" and she did it! She went for her dreams. She has become one of the biggest female pop stars, achieving a celebrity status almost without parallel.
Sex sells, and Madonna wanted to "sell" herself, so she began a career with this sort of Virgin vs ***** thing (I believe it's actually called the "Madonna Complex"). Every move she has made in public has been carefully choreographed and precisely coordinated.... And it has worked.
But is that who she really is? I doubt it. Look to the tabloids--personally I don't buy them but I do read the headlines or flip through them in the supermarket line... Madonna's personal life STAYS pretty personal. Especially since having kids--have you seen many pictures of her with her family?
Madonna is a wife, a mother, and a career woman--her chosen career is to entertain you and I and a million others. And her chosen career involves putting on a show--and kissing britney spears is just part of the show!
When she kisses her kids and her husband and leaves for work, is it so much different than many other career women? They put on a power suit--she puts on black leather. Or a wedding gown. Or a sexy tuxedo. And she goes out, and does her job--and who wouldn't rather have her job? Let's see--sing, dance, have fun, put on a show, make millions of dollars--or have the job I currently have. (tough one.)
I respect Madonna for the way she has made it to the top, and stayed up there, somewhere near the top...and yet, I see the "everywoman" lurking underneath. And respect her even more. She isn't so different from you, or I, really.
Patricia 09-02-2003, 12:55 AM I thought Madonna's number was the best of all (although my son said that Metallica was great--I guess I missed them). Remember, folks, it was MTV. A lot of the videos themselves contain questionable material. Madonna was dressed as a man and I believe she was acting as a man. I love her old music, but am not a big fan of the new nor of Madonna herself, but her number at least showcased her and wasn't a humongous flashy stage show like most of the others were. Come on, guys, Madonna has been around for ages. We already know what she is like. And, yes, Lara, she is to be respected and admired for working hard to become such an icon.
What I thought was horrific (I guess no one here saw the preshow) was DMX extolling the virtues of dog fighting. I am still so shocked that I haven't even started to compose the email I am going to send to MTV. I guess I should send one to his record company, too. That dude should be boycotted and MTV should be censured for showing his interview.
The clothes were pretty horrific, too. I did miss the first part of the preshow, but the only good outfits I saw were Beyonce's and Kelly Rowland's (I WANT that orange dress!). Did anyone see any other cool outfits? Was JLo even there? She is usually exquisitely dressed.
I agree with Blondie in her other thread that Chris Rock was totally pukey. All in all, I think it was one of the worst award shows I have ever seen.
Sub-Zero 09-02-2003, 07:24 PM I don't like Britney Much.. But Madonna Yeah.. I could go on and on about her.. in fact thats where my Liking for mature females stems from.. MADONNA!
SnowPrincess 09-05-2003, 11:36 PM Did anyone see the NFL kickoff show?
How disappointing other that Aretha Franklin........She rocked doing the Anthem at the end.....
The first band was ok whoever they were.......
Mary J Bleige (sp) had a problem dancing since she was crouched in an ape position most of the time
Brittany, couldn't refrain from humping a dancer, grapping her crotch, and stripping, not to mention the LIP SYNCING!!!
Areosmith seemed drunk most of their set, than became sober towards the end.......
What a disgusting send off for the NFL!!!!!
At least the armed forces was there and did a great introduction of the lame singers..........

hmmm. I locked into Antonio Banderas kissing Tom Cruise and read no further. Anyone else think that's hottt? :D
I agree blondie...i think two men kissing is very sensual. while not necessarily tom cruise and antonio banderas, i am reminded of the slightly homoerotic moments from interview with the vampire, with brad pitt and tom cruise...:)
Moonshadow 09-10-2003, 04:48 PM I enjoyed Madonna's acting in the film, "Who's That Girl," but haven't seen "Evita." Is it worth it?
No it's not worth it. And that is coming from a very big Evita fan. I loved the stage production more than any other I have ever seen, but the film version is flat, primarily because of Madonna. You are unable to forget that it is Madonna pretending to be Eva Peron. She is not captivating in a role that demands it, and throughout the entire film you cannot comprehend Juan Peron's fascination with her and the Argentinians devotion to her. In essence, she just couldn't pull it off. Her voice is whiny and cloying and totally lacking in the sensational quality of Patti LuPone (the original Evita). Do you get the impression I didn't like it? :D
Moonshadow 09-11-2003, 01:35 AM And it is well known that cats do not like Doritos or Popcorns!
Obviously you have not heard of Cool Ranch Tuna Doritos and Orville Reddenbacher's buttered tuna popcorn. You must be sure to tell Biagio. :)
Carazy 09-11-2003, 03:10 AM Hm, after skimming this thread a bit again, I thought it was quite interesting that a lot of the females here seem to dislike the "kissing scene" on the one hand, but also Madonna in general ;) - some of the comments seemed downright derogatory to me, but maybe it's just my non-English-ness that shows here :D - anyway, I just noted this cause we were in an other thread observing how women seem to be so overcritical of other women .... - so, I was just wondering if that is a bit reflected here ;)
Just a general thought, maybe I got a totally wrong impression here ;) Personally, I would agree with larasteele on this ... :D - Madonna is and has been pretty much in control of her life and how she deals with things - that might not mean I would do as she does, but I think that does make her quite a "role model" as far as I am concerned :D

I don't think it's a matter of being overcritical of other women at all. I think people are merely stating their opinions just as they would about any other topic. I don't subscribe to the notion that women should find Madonna a great role model just because she has had a successful career and they share a gender. To me, there is more to being a role model than that.
Just so you know I am an equal-opportunity critic, I didn't like Antonio Banderas as Che Guevara in Evita either. :D
abaconw 11-17-2003, 09:26 PM I think the biggest problem that I have with any same sex kissing in public is that many younger people may question their own sexual orientation and thus become what they see. A person may see a successful person, whether as a business man or a corner drug pusher with nice cars and women and decide to use that as a role model. a young girl who questions her own sexuality may decide she is lesbian because others are. Personal reason for this: someone I knew years ago was molested by a lesbian gym teacher and decided she was lesbian. we became very close and perhaps could have had a heterosexual relationship, would have had if certain times I had done one thing instead of another and if I had had enough confidence around any girl at that time, let alone a lesbian. An example of this is when she came to my hotel room late one night with her blouse unbottoned down the front and rather than make a pass, I told her to button it up so she didn't catch cold rather than make a pass, which in later conversations figured out I was supposed to have done. Any sexual act between consenting adults doesn't bother me as long as they do it somewhere that I don't have to watch them in the consenting. lol.
obsessing 11-18-2003, 11:47 AM I saw a special on TV about the rehersal for the "spontaneous" kiss. I am so sick of the press manipulating the public's thinking.
Notice here that I am not saying "trying to manipulate" our thinking.
They have such a major effect on people - children, adults, generations, societies. But since it is all about the bucks, and the producers and press have done their homework, can we expect anything different?
About the guy on guy action - I think I posted here before about my bf suggesting a threesome. "Sure baby, let's see if your friend Jacob wants to be #3" - NO! - not what he had in mind.
Sounded okay to me - as long it all the attention went towards me. I had no interest in watching him give head.
double standards. but we're all human and just muddling through I guess.
bored with it all.....
obsessing 11-18-2003, 11:52 AM Personal reason for this: someone I knew years ago was molested by a lesbian gym teacher and decided she was lesbian.
You know, I wonder how many girls turn out to be lesbians who were tomboys when they were kids. I was very much a tomboy and if I had grown up in today's society I wonder if I would have been labeled gay and just headed that direction. I would have missed out on my husband, kids, childbirth, etc. I believe it could have happened and it does. I can't say what's right or wrong, what's built in, what's not. I am just glad I didn't get thrown into some bullsh** therapy about my boyish ways.
abaconw 11-18-2003, 12:08 PM Not only that you could have been labled but also that it could have been possible to see those like Helen DeGeneris and the like on tv and decide that perhaps you are that way also. One other thing to consider, a woman often knows the places to touch and the things to do to bring satisfaction to another woman so that from a sexual point of view, it might be possible to receive more sexual satisfaction for a young girl from another girl rather than a kid fumbling and not knowing what he is doing. I once know a woman who claimed that she could take any woman from any man if it came down to just sex and I believe that she could have and perhaps did in one case.
