Ok...everybody!

I am open for suggestions!

I am trying to get a concrete play list for our wedding celebration. We both want to have a fun memorable wedding, and most of us realize that the memories usually involve the people themselves and the fun they had.

With it being a wedding, I want songs that talk about love and happiness and all of that, but I want tons of dance music!

I am a fan of 80's music because it is dance music, with fun lyrics and such. I have downloaded music from all eras and all genres so that everyone will have soemthing they like.

Any suggestions? Song titles and the group of soloist that performed them would be so helpful to me.

Thanks everybody!!!

I think that "By Your Side" by Sade is the most beautiful song about unconditional commitment and support that I have ever heard. I hope the link works:

I found a great website for looking up wedding songs! It has it broken down by category like "songs for the first dance between bride and groom" or "songs for playing when the garter is removed" etc...

There are too many to list here!

:) Have fun looking!

Being a classical musician I always do wedding gigs every now and then. I can tell you what people have requested most of the time during gigs:

Bridal Chorus (From Lohengrin) by Richard Wagner

Wedding March (From midsummer night's dream) by Felix Mendelssohn

Cannon in D by Pachabel. (EVERYONE ALWAYS ASKS FOR THIS ONE!!!) musicians get quite tired of it, lol.

Ave Maria by Franz Schubert

Eine Kleine Nachimusik by Mozart

...these are just a few common requests

However there are some other good selections such as

Polovetsian/Polevetsian Dances by Alexander Borodin

Love Theme from Romeo and Juliet by Peter Tchaikovsky

and I Love Thee(Ich Liebe Dich) by Edward Grieg.

These are all classical pieces and i'm not sure what kind of music your looking for in your wedding for...but these have been the usual selections people enjoyed, so hopefully this helps a little.

Good Luck

Thanks manofmisteree...

Canon in D was played at my daughter's wedding. It is one of my favorites.

I have thought of staying traditional with the march from a midsummer night's dream...not sure yet about the ceremony itself...but thank you for the wonderful suggestions...I do love the music you mentioned...

Do you mean a wedding song or a bride/groom dance song?

I used "Hold Me" by Whitney Houston & Teddy Pendergrass as our dance song.

About a year prior to our wedding, my (then) fiancee' and I were in a pizza restaurant and she went put some money in the juke box to play some music. She returned to the table and told me to go and pick 3 songs. "Hold Me" was my final choice and she told me that she's never heard before then. Once she heard the lyrics, she said that she had to have it as our dance song because Teddy Pendergrass and Whitney Houston sang that song as if they were really a couple.

Another choice, Peter Cetera and Chicago's "You're My Inspiration" or Phil Collins' "You'll Be In My Heart".

We have chosen "Until" by Sting as our first dance song. It is a nice waltz...

What I'm really looking for is music that people love to dance to. We want the reception to be a party! With people dancing and having a good time. Lots of upbeat kind of stuff...:)

That's the best choice, Tru. But actually, the song was performed in 1959 by the Isley Brothers. That scit in "Animal House" was lip synced.

Here's another suggestion, Guinavere. Teddy Pendergrass' "GET UP, GET DOWN, GET FUNKY, GET LOOSE". (I'll post the lyrics if you need me to.) It's very upbeat and the title along says it all. When I used to help my brother DJ at parties, that song got everyone on the floor.:D
