But you were too afraid to admit you liked it too!!

My mom LOVES Johnny Mathis.. and as a kid, we had to suffer through it.. lol A few years ago, I bought her a Johnny Mathis CD, and for some reason opened it.. well.. I had to buy her another one, cuz I enjoyed it so much, I had to keep it for myself!

Other parent music I'll finally admit to liking..

Glen Miller, Buddy Holly, Bill Haley and the Comets, Gene Pitney, Al Hibbler, are just some to name a few.. and hearing those old songs brings back some nice childhood memories too..

Come on.. don't be a chicken now... here's the thread where you can finally admit you actually did like some of your folks "square" music.. LOL

I grew up listening to Chuck Berry and The Platters lol. I grew to love Chuck Berry but used to give my Mom a hard time about eeeewwwww "The Platters"??????? But I've "changed my tune" so to speak and love all that old stuff.

I can still remember Chuck belting out "Maybelline", "Go, Johnny, Go", "School Days" and "Nadine"... I love those:)

My mother is only 1 year younger than Elvis. When she was 19, living near a small town in Arkansas, Elvis was just getting his music career off the gorund. He came to Batesville, Arkansas and my mother watched him drive his pink cadillac down main street. We always had Elvis playing in the house, and my mother would take us to the drive-in to see all the elvis movies!

I like some of his stuff, and I must admit I bought his video of his 1968 comeback television concert. Damn! He is sexy in all that black leather!!!

My mother was always singing something by the Platters...

I had Johnny Mathis in my headset when I was 17 years old! My mother never really listened to him, but I did! I loved his voice!!!

My father was a musician and was always in a band. He played bass guitar, and country music. I got to see many country singers in person, like George Jones, Buck Owens, Loretta Lynn, Hank Snow, etc...because my dad would play on radio shows in Anderson Indiana.

I don't really care for country music anymore, but I have fond memories of music in my house.

I think my parents grew up with the Glenn Miller Band, the Platters, and Johnny Mathis as well.

My ultimate favorite is "Only You" by the Platters. I used to listen to a classic R & B radio station that often played some Ray Charles hits that I have never heard and fell in love with.

"I'm Busted", "Georgia", "Hit The Road Jack"-Ray Charles

"Chances Are"- Johnny Mathis

My oldest brother grew to love the big bans, like Glenn Miller. I was never a big fan of big band but he made it worst. Imagine listening to some "boogie woogie" music on a modern day BIG MEGA BASS car stereo. We're talking a 1984 Lincoln Continental with 2-20 inch subwoofers in what's left of the trunk.

Having been the youngest child of what seemed to be the oldest parents when I was growing up in grammar and high school days, I heard Sinatra, Davis Jr., Vic Damone, Merv Griffin, Gene Krupa, George Burns, Tony Benett, Dean Martin, Lawrence Welk, Doris Day, the Ray Conniff Singers, Sergio Mendes and Brazil 66....I could go on forever....

There's one very big hole, though....when I was younger, I used to enjoy the ethnic programming of what my late grandmother used to have on --at the time, I didn't have any respect for "how cool" it was; now that it's no longer available on that local radio station, I long for the reminiscing about how fun it was to listen to the "old Polish-American hour" on Sundays down at her house, in the kitchen, where we all would gather...

My parents listen to oldies...they still do and I love oldies and Doo Wop myself...

However, when I was younger....they use to do this routine in the car with The Diamond's "Little Darlin"....my dad would hold my mother's hand and speak the words to her in the middle of the song...and they would most likely do this...when we were taking one of my friends home...

I use to detest that song...but now, I love it and have it memorized...even the middle part that use to embarass me the most...*LOL*

My darlin'...
I need you...
To call my own...
And never, do wrong...
To hold in mine...
Your little hand...
I'll know...too soon...
That all is so grand....
Please...hold my hand...

Gee wizz, thanks for making me feel so old now Peaches.....LOL

I grew up listening to them. In fact, I still work out listening to James Brown.

To top it off, I still remember that the Isley Brothers have always been a trio until 1973 when they were joined by 2 more brothers and a cousin. The scary part to that story is I still remember the title of their album and the single that they came out with from that album.......LOL

Okay okay, if anyone is curious of my memory:

Album title: "Isley Brothers-3+3"
Cousin: Chris Jasper (who later went on to have an unsuccessful solo career in the early 80's)
Single: What else? "Who's That Lady" (killer guitar in that song)

Moody Blues: "I'm just a singer in a rock and roll band"
My parents bought a record player and tried to play their old Moody Blues songs. but it didn't work.

<-----Listening to Willie Nelson right now. :p

My parents have always listened to a really wide variety of music. Dad likes 40s and 50s country, like Ernest Tubbs and Hank Williams, as well as classic rock and classical music. Mom likes motown, 60s folk music, some blues, and opera. I used to listen to her John Denver and Simon and Garfunkel records when I was a kid.

I love Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, and Elvis, I'm practically a Paul Simon fanatic, and I probably listen to more motown and do wop than my parents ever did. As a kid I had Beatles posters on the wall right next to my U2 and The Cure posters.
