Meeting THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!!!

Before I post this incredible event, I am asking that those who don't like our President please don't post on this thread. I am well aware of your views. Please don't use my thread as your political arena. Thank you! :)

Okay, here's how it happened. President Bush came to Cincinnati yesterday to raise money for his campaign. He was going to the home of Carl Lindner. Robin (my fiance) and his brother and sister, along with Robin's niece, nephew and sister-in-law who is married to the brother who works on Air Force One were invited to meet the President and tour Air Force One. Robin's brother (and several Secret Service people) took Robin and his siblings, as well as sister-in-law and kids on a tour of the plane. They were given "gift packs" which included a printed, personalized "welcome to Air Force One" ticket for each of them, Presidential matches, Presidential M&M's, the menu for Air Force One for Tuesday, September 30th, 2003, Presidential napkins, a signed picture by George W. Bush of Air Force One, and a printout of its history. After the tour, they waited for hours until the President's limo returned. At one point, it started to rain. One of the S.S. men came up and said, "We have to get you some umbrellas." Robin and his siblings said, "No, that's okay." The S.S. guy said, "No, we HAVE TO. If the President comes back and sees you standing in the rain, he'll be pissed!" :D

Finally, President Bush's limo arrived. He got out, and started shaking hands of Robin's family. When he got to Robin, Robin said, "It's an honor to meet you." He looked at Robin and smiled. He stopped to talk a couple of minutes to Robin's nephew who is 12. Then he got behind them for a group photo. He boarded the plane and was off. Robin said he was much more down to Earth than he seemed on t.v. Very caring, very attentive. I am beside myself, seething with envy, because I didn't get to go!!! I am very happy for Robin though, to have had this very distinct privilege.

I just wanted to share this with you, because I know a lot of you are Bush supporters. He really IS all that and a bag of chips! :D

Oh, Robin let my daughter take the ticket and the menu to school today to show her friends that didn't believe her! He was also on the news. If you've watched it in the last 24 hours, he's standing near the airplane, in a suit with a long, black pony tail, and it's dark outside (Bush is boarding the plane at that point). If you saw Bush shaking the hand of a woman in a light dress, with a boy with black hair standing in front of her, that's Robin's sister-in-law and her son. :)

Polly, I can feel you are very proud! Despite what people think of presidents, they are so famous that getting to meet them, and I know the feeling, is a big happening!

I've never met a president, but I've seen the Emperors of Japan. Everybody was frozen when they entered the room. :)

Hey my uncle had dinner with the President of Mary Kay Cosmetics European Division - or something. Does that count?

I am friends with a woman whose dad was Secretary of the Navy 30 years ago. We worked together at the time and she was always hearing stories of her dad having dinner and hobnobbing. We thought that was pretty cool. She also christened a few ships.

I like presidents. What an honor. Kudos.

How exciting for Robin and his family! Love him, or hate him, he's still the President, and its an honor.
Also how interesting to get to see first hand, how the secret service and security handles things.
Awesome.

It may still be on a few more hours on the National News Channels now and then. Again, Bush is boarding the plane to leave, and it's dark outside. When he arrived it was light out. The clip that shows him getting out of the limo and going up to the crowd by the plane is the one Robin and his family are in.

Hey, I forgot to add that Robin was investigated a month before yesterday. They needed to know his last four addresses, his s.s. number, his birthdate, yada yada yada. Everyone in the family was investigated. Anyone with a felony was not allowed to attend. Robin rubbed it in even more to me today, that he got to sit in the President's chair, sit on his bed, and use his umbrella! I just wanted to elaborate on the inside of Air Force One, but Robin has instructed me not to! :( I guess all I can say is it sounds similar to a pop star's tour bus, only nicer!

I got to shake Willie Mays' hand. Now that was an honor.

What an honor... I can just imagine they were all thrilled, as I would be too!

I loved the part about the umbrellas! I can just imagine that. :)

I know what you mean about the honor, whether you agree or disagree with the person who's president...

In high school (during Clinton's first term), I was an intern in my district's Congressional office. Once, someone called in and wanted to know about the hiring policies for White House employees, after some story came out about drug use by presidential aides or something... anyway, I called the Office of Personnel and Management to get the answers this guy was looking for... they told me that the White House didn't operate under their jurisdiction, and said "Would you like the White House's number?" I barely stammered out the words "yes, please..." I called and they said they'd have to get back to me with an answer... I glowed the rest of the week thinking "Somewhere inside the White House is a message pad with my name on it!"

THATS GREAT POLLY.....what a story for grandchildren some day...I have always wanted to go on Air Force One.

President Bush,,,,then Governor Bush.....came to my hometown 6 years ago when we were hit by a devastating tornado to declare it a disaster area. I was struck by the way he always stopped and listened to children especially. He IS a very honest and down to earth person, very warm and friendly and just regular people. Ive been meaning to go to Crawford one day and see him when he speaks to the high school and the town there now and then. Sometimes they put it on t.v., sometimes they dont, I should def. do that before he gets out of office in 5 more years :)

Right on, Jannie! :D

I like other people's stories of brushes with greatness too. I was going to call the thread, "Brushes with Greatness"! :)

Polly, why didn't you get to go? What a wonderful thing for Robin to experience. I know how much you care about the President. I wish you could have been there too. :(
