EMCAD80 10-07-2003, 04:33 PM Since this isn't anywhere on the net, I had to make this my avatar for right now. It's on my shoulder blade. It's one of two...don't have the other one on a picture yet :)
It's a symbol of a drum corps I used to march:
Santa Clara Vanguard (http://www.scvanguard.org)
This is a clear picture:
http://www.scvanguard.org/Merchant2/graphics/prod_thumbnails/starpin.jpg
Obviously the "V" stands for Vanguard.
TheChosen1 10-07-2003, 04:38 PM Not bad. In fact, it's cool looking.
I've been contimplating getting a tat as well.
I want it around my bicep but I haven't decided what I want yet.
Waiting 10-07-2003, 05:03 PM Nice, though nicer if the photo was clearer, I think :-).
Here's mine. . .the photo is from right after I got it, thus the reddish tinge. It's on my lower back. Kinda hard to make out the details at this size, I know.

swanqueen 10-07-2003, 09:30 PM I have a tatoo on my belly. It is a dove carrying a heart. I MAY post a picture late.
SaltwaterBlues 10-07-2003, 09:51 PM Here's a tattoo.... and NO, it is not mine:D
swanqueen 10-07-2003, 10:03 PM Well I guess I'm glad its not yours SaltWater. Not a pretty thing.
PinkPanther_04 10-07-2003, 10:15 PM Wow, that's just terrible, SWB. You think he'll regret it later?
One of my Dad's Navy buddies got one while he was in service that said MICHIGAN in big red letters down his arm from his shoulder to his wrist. Ah, drunkenness and tattoo guns, weren't they just made for each other?
And yes, I have two, both obtained when I was 18. An angry sun on my belly and a heart with a tail, horns and a fiery halo on my back. Maybe if you're lucky I'll post a pic. ;)
swanqueen 10-07-2003, 10:35 PM My daughter has some stupid black hand on the base of her spine and she had a cute sun on her ankle which she got tired of so she had someone cover it and they covered it with a black and green frog that was hideous and she has paid thousands of dollars to have it removed and now it looks like a horrible scarred and black and blue thing on her ankle.
She has also pierced her belly button and tongue. Wants to pierce her nose. IS THIS MY DAUGHTER??? Yes, by golly it is.
EMCAD80 10-08-2003, 09:24 AM I have a friend with her nose pierced...and for the longest time I would constantly tell her she hat a big fat booger....I would always feel dumb when she would remind me it was her piercing.
TheChosen1 10-09-2003, 09:30 AM Okay my tattoo toting friends...........
Is there such a thing as lazer tattoos?
I know, I know. I'm big powerlifting badass but what can I say? I hate needles. I guess it saves me from using injectible steroids, right?
I've considered something like either flames or barbwire tattooed around my left bicep and stopping in the middle of the bicep to tattoo this image in the opened space of the flames/barbwire:

Hey lil missy, don't make me come over to that San Diego attorney office.......LOL
EMCAD80 10-09-2003, 10:46 AM yeah...you shouldn't because security will be all over your arse.
sweetheart 10-09-2003, 10:58 AM Those of you who have gotten tatoos, are you happy with them? Would you do it again?
I am thinking of getting one on my lower back of a music staff with a couple of notes with a hawaiian flower in the middle.
EMCAD80 10-09-2003, 11:31 AM great question sweetheart,
I love both of my tattoos. (just noticed that I spelled tattoos wrong for the thread title...oops) I was very careful on the selection. I made sure that there was some sort of meaning behind them. The star in my avatar was a performing group I was apart of...and a group that I will always hold dear to my heart. In fact, I get to perform with them one last time...I'M GONNA BE IN THE ROSE PARADE! Not looking forward to that 5.5 mile hike...but I'll be with Vanguard.
Anyway, the second one I have is hard to discribe. It's on the lower right part of my back....almost to my butt. It's a heart...which stands for love with a greenish blue bursting star around it, which stands for hope.
I am thinking about getting another one. A fairy in ballet shoes with pixie dust and music notes put it the mix. Because I love ballet, and I'm a performer. However, it might be a little too big for my taste....we'll see.
Happy4Me 10-09-2003, 04:26 PM I have one tattoo and it is the chinese symbol for water. My brother and I saw it in one of my books one day and we were both like "Coooool!" And seeing how tattoos are permanent, we decided that we would wait three years after choosing it as a tattoo before we actually MADE it into a tatto and therefore, a permanent part of our bodies. LOL.
My brother died two years after that. He never got the tattoo. I, on the other hand, waited one more year and woke up one day and thought "OMG! This would be the day we would be getting our tattoos." So, I went and got it.
And I have NEVER regretted it.
EMCAD80 10-09-2003, 04:29 PM Now that.....is an awesome reason to get it. I think even after 3 years...I would get just because of my brother.
Thanks for sharing that Happy. One of those warm-the-heart stories. :)
Waiting 10-09-2003, 04:38 PM I definitely don't regret mine, and I've been wanting to do it again since the day I got it. Lots of people will tell you that tattoos are addictive -- once you get one, you start to get all sorts of other ideas that you want just as much. Still, I figure there's plenty of time, so I'm going to wait a year or two before I start seriously thinking about what other ink, if any, I want in my skin.
TheChosen1 10-09-2003, 07:24 PM OH HELL, my question has been ignored so I might as well go to another board and find the answer:rolleyes:
MerAlove23 10-09-2003, 08:15 PM I have no tatoos.. nor will I ,.. I can't picture myself with one.... I don't know.... scared maybe but never really interested...
My husband has a wolf on his sholder and the word Love on his fingers... L is on the pointer finger. O is on the middle. V is on the index and e is on the pinky... I actually think its sexy and strong.... although he is just sexy and strong LOL sorry When I talk about him I get out of control... Now I need to go and try for that baby LOL
PinkPanther_04 10-10-2003, 12:21 AM No Chosen, there's no such thing as laser tattoos. (There - do you feel better now? :p ) Branding is getting more popular though, no needles there. Tattoo needles aren't like regular needles anyways. It doesn't feel like getting poked. More like a burning feeling sort of.
I don't regret mine, though the designs don't have much meaning. The sun was just the requisite 18th birthday tattoo and I like the design. My boyfriend got it for me and also got a sun on his arm at the same time. The heart is a design that I had painted on my hand at a renaissance festival as a kid. I always thought it was a really cool design. I also had my best friend with me when I got it and he's in Indonesia now. I haven't been able to see him in just over two years, but the tattoo reminds me of him.
If I ever get another one it will probably be a big cat of some kind, but it would take some convincing.
Happy4Me 10-10-2003, 08:03 AM I think anyone seriously considering a tattoo should search for something meaningful to them; then wait for a lengthy period of time: a year, two even. If you still want it after that long, then it's unlikely that you'll regret it later on down the line. It's painful to have them removed and a pain in the *** to get them altered.
The day I got my tattoo (I had to drive to another state. The great religious whities in our State House still refuse to make tattoing legal.) I walked in with a copy of what I wanted. I was FLOORED to see how many people were just kind of flipping through the cartoon images and other unoriginal garbage they had there. I mean, honestly, I don't think I could walk into a place and say "Geeeee....I can't decide if I want Heathcliff or Garfield sitting on my shoulder for the rest of my life."

**exhaling quickly after holding breath for answer**
Thank you very much Double P-04. It's good to see that I'm not (totally) ignored.......LOL ;)
i just last month got the "OM" symbol (no, no, no, not older man symbol).....the symbol is a hindu/buddhist symbol; you know, the sound that people make when they are meditating....I alwayskind of liked it, and each line in it has a different meaning, symbolizing different states of spirtual consciousness. I really like it.....pretty small tattoo--just, probably, about one inch by one inch on my ankles....it is the silouhetted outline of the om symbol, with no filling....the tattoo artist gave me the option of filling it in, but i thought that may take some of the gracefulness out of it....others have agreed that i made the right choice of keeping it simple.
and, Like Happy, I had to make a copy of it off of the internet because they didn't have that particular symbol just lying around for stencil use.
i think i want another tattoo...i want this one symbol that is derived from the Ouroboros, a symbol of creation and nourishment out of destruction.....the symbol that i want is the "auryn" symbol....i guess it was in some Stephen Spielberg movie called "The Neverending story." Basically, the symbol is two snakes eating each other by biting each other's tails, coiled up to form two interwoven infinity symbols. http://www.angelfire.com/rant/clickherenow/auryn.jpg
and here is the "OM" symbol
http://www.sanandaspiritualcenter.com/images/Copy_of_mysticOm.jpg
EMCAD80 10-15-2003, 09:24 AM Ah yes....Neverending Story! Actaully a friend of mine in Florida has that symbol on her back. It brings back those childhood memories of Bastian and Atreu. :D
PinkPanther_04 10-15-2003, 09:51 AM Jeez, The Neverending Story and The Princess Bride. I don't know which one I've seen more times. For some reason we were always watching those movies in school. I always thought "shouldn't we be learning something instead of watching movies?"
I was always kind of weirded out by the big flying dog (I think it was a dog) in The Neverending Story. Good movies, though.
Happy4Me 10-15-2003, 09:59 AM but he was a "Luck Dragon!"
EMCAD80 10-15-2003, 11:00 AM Ah yes...the luck dragon...what about the rock biter!?
"They look like big, strong hands"
Oh and the "nothing"
I have that movie on DVD...I think I'll watch it again some time soon.

Hey bro, did you know that symbol is the gang tatoo for the Mexican prison gang, "Texas Syndicate?"
Be careful!

PinkPanther_04 10-16-2003, 02:54 PM Now how do you know that, Joe? :p
