Hi everyone! After reading the F.A.Q.'s about avatars, I still have a few questions. What is the size restriction for a custom avatar? Are there sites to download avatars? I somehow managed to download a pic on the picture page, but just can't figure out the rest. Help? :)

I believe the limit is 10,000 bytes or 100x100 pixels, I think....
But, more or less, it has to conform to both of those limitations.
Once you download a picture, you need to use something to resize the picture. I would suggest IR Fanview....it's a free little program. It's what I use to resize all kinds of pictures...it does the trick, since I'm not a graphical genius myself...just a computer one. *LOL*
If you want to try it, just do a search for it at yahoo or download.com
If you don't want to do that...you can email me the picture at shues@nauticom.net and I'll take care of it for ya.

I have an Avatar question too. Dang if I can figure out exactly how to post one properly. When I've got the pic I want...then what? Does it have to be a jpg. of a gif., do I just copy and paste the URL/properties somewhere. Sorry - I've got my brunette wig on today!!
Ta everso,

I don't think they have to be one or the other...I think gif's work too. If you notice some people have one's that are animated, and that is most likely what they are...is a gif...
Once you have the picture...you have to make sure it fits the 100x100 pixel and 10,000 byte limit...
You then have to go into your control panel, under the "Edit Options" area...go down and you'll see the spot for the avatar...
From thier, you can do one of two things...
1) You can find a place that will host the picture. Once hosted, You can right click on the image, to the properties copy the url and paste it into the one box and save...and voila...
2) The easier way is probably to go to that spot...hit the "Browse" button. Browse your computer and find that image...and then upload it...and it will go into it's rightful spot.
I hope that helps and hope I didn't make it sound complicated or confusing...

Thank you all for the assistance. I will have a go with the picture in Photoshop and hopefully sort it out. If not, I will definitely take you up on your offer, Dan :)
