Lunar Eclipse

I heard today that there will be an unusual second lunar eclipse tomorrow night. It's rare that there is more than one eclipse in a year. There was one last May.

I live in the eastern time zone and it is supposed to begin around 6:30 pm, I think and be fully eclipsed at around 8:00.

I have no idea how this works, whether you can view a lunar eclipse from anywhere in the world, or if it is only viewable in certain sections of the world, but thought I'd make everyone aware in case you want to get outside and view it tomorrow night.

Thanks for the tip, whiterose. For once, there will be a sky event that takes place at a reasonable time of day! I hate missing all those meteors and comets that you can only see at 3AM. I think our employers should give us the day off so that we can stay up for these incredible sky shows.

It has started here!!! It's beautiful! And all the stars are shining, it's a dream!

Odd and I were talking on the phone while looking at the moon, that lucky guy has the sea close to him!

My kids and I watched it, in all of its stages! The moon had a red hue on the outer part of it. Absolutely beautiful!

Wouldn't you know... it was so cloudy here I could barely see it. :(

But, we did get a glimpse of it between the clouds and it was so cool. But, we were freezing outside and quickly ran back into the house to warm up.

This was expected to be one of the most beautiful eclipses in a good while. I hope you all enjoyed it for me. It is pouring here in San Francisco so I cant see it.

Has anyone seen a total eclipse of the Sun? I was in Arizona a long time ago. My dad lived there. He had a telescope with a special filter so I could watch the whole thing.

That is awesome too.

The moon is almost completely back here.

Yes I saw a solar eclipse as a child. You could not look at the sun, obviously, so we made special boxes with a small pin hole and you had to hold it over a piece of paper. Then, on the paper you could see the outline of the sun as it was being eclipsed.

There was one about three years ago in Europe. It was wonderful, all the birds and animals went to sleep during some minutes, you couldn't hear them at all, like during the night.

It was total silence and darkness!

I have seen a solar eclipse before. Its a truely facinating astronomical event.

The other night in my Astronomy Lab we were up on the roof checking out the moon. We had to use a 90% light filter just to look at it. To check out the sun with it you have to use a 99.99999% light filter or else you'll blind yourself instantaniously. I think it'd be kinda fun to check out a solar eclipse thru a telescope.

Can you all tell I dig astronomy?

Tall Guy

My dad taught astromomy. I grew up with a telescope in my backyard. I have seen it all, rings of Saturn, spots on Jupiter, eclipses, my name is from Greek Mythology, she was the Gemini twins mother.

I used to be able to name and find all the constellations in the Northern Hemisphere. And tell you the mythology that goes along with them.

How many of you have got the chance to see the Southern Cross? I am sure Perthguy can confirm, it's something you never forget, it remains imprinted on your memory.

Anyone born in the Southern Hemisphere will always miss that in the sky when traveling north...:(

I was simply mesmerized by the beauty of this very special eclipse. Apparently, the last time this configuration of planets were in this alignment was 4,000 years ago. Many astrologers have been waiting for this eclipse in particular, some for twenty years even ... Some are calling this event the Harmonic Concordance. Just a little about this ...

Right now the world stands ready to receive a great spiritual gift from the universe. After the conflict and trouble of the last several years, staring with the Grand Cross in August 1999 and continuing with the Saturn/Pluto opposition of 2001, we are now being given a great reward. The November 8, 2003 Lunar Eclipse at 16 degrees of Taurus brings with it several positive, once in a lifetime aspects, brimming over with positive energy.

First, the eclipse itself is one of the best of the Saros series of eclipses. An eclipse series has a history behind it, bringing forth either positive or negative energy. This one is positive. All the best of Taurus energy is flowing in and around this eclipse. Taurus is ruled by Venus, the planet of love and harmony. Taurus is concerned with the issues of relationships, money, real estate, beauty and the greenery of the earth. Taurus is the gardener of the zodiac, the one who plants her garden and then waits and watches it grow. Now is a great time to plant some seeds and wait for them to shoot up.

Looking closer at this astrological pattern, a Star of David emerges. A Star of David is caused by two inverted Grand Trines. The earth and water signs are highlighted in this aspect, as in the Grand Sextile aspect. Thus the energy being released this day is all about stability, emotion, feeling, intuition and being grounded. The earth and water signs are feminine in nature. That means they are considered to be fertile, receptive to others and to life around them. A masculine sign is considered to be more action oriented, more intent on doing than anything else. And that's fine for certain times and places. But not today.

Today is a time that a lot and I do mean a lot of spiritual inner work can take place if you allow it to. Right now the universe is opening up the heavens and allowing us a respite from all the trouble and stress we have been seeing around us the past couple of years. The war, terrorism, the political shenanigans taking place in the white house, and all the economic troubles have left many people feeling stretched to the core right now, and at the breaking point. Now here comes this brief respite from the travails of the world we deal with on a daily basis.

With the energy of the Eclipse, the Grand Sextile and the Star of David all on this one day, and coming from the receptive fruitful signs, it is time to grow your own garden . A garden of peace and inner contentment for yourself

Don't want overload everyone, but there is tons of information about this event all over the web. Those who would ... can find what they like. :D

Epiphany, do you think that this all means that it's a time for people to find harmonious relationships? ;)

Any odds makers out there?

Tall Guy and I live in the same area, so I missed it as well. If you are a fan of special sky events, don't ever move to the San Francisco Bay Area. Between the fog and the rain, we miss most of them.
