Almost everyone I've ever met, has a 'UFO' story to tell. But, you won't read about these, or see them on TV. Most people
are afraid of being ridiculed, and only share their 'encounters' with close personal friends. And since we are all friends
here, I thought it would be fun, and interesting for all of us to share our 'sightings' in this forum.
I will start by sharing one of my own "Close Encounters"....
It was the early 70's and I was married at the time. My wife and I were traveling from Salem Oregon to Sacrament California.
It was night time and we were a few miles from Ashland Oregon. I noticed a strange red light just above the horizon and it
seemed to be moving. As we got closer, the light began to change colors, from red, to blue, to white in a random order.
Trees and buildings blocked my view until we drove alongside of the city and I could see the houses. The 'light' was now
much larger and was off in the distance hovering over the roof tops. My curiosity was now at a peak, and I pulled over and
parked on the sholder of I-5 to watch it. There were large mounds of grassy hills along side of the highway, and one of
them blocked my view. I got out of the car and climbed the nearest one to get a better view. Once on top, I could see the
'light' still hovering over the roof tops. It moved very slowly, and randomly, from left to right, and up and down. At
this point, I began trying to analyze what this 'light' might be. It was about a half a mile away and when it moved, it
would come to a complete stop...left to right, up and down. I knew it could not be an airplane as they cannot stop in flight,
and there was no noise. It wasn't a helocopter, again, no noise. I thought maybe a blimp, but they 'coast' to a stop.
I observed the object for at least 10 minutes trying my best to explain it, when suddenly, it rose straight up and stopped
at eye level. I could now see a red light at the top, and a row of white lights that flashed in sequence from left to right
and then would stop...flash again from left to right and stop. I watched this for a minute or two when it suddenly darted
straight at me and stopped just in front of me. I don't know how close it was, but I know it was close enough for me to
hit it with a rock without much effort. It's sudden movement startled me so bad that I jumped and grunted outloud! But the
odd thing was that I was not afraid. I felt very calm. It was very dark, and it's lights were so bright that I could not
make out it's shape. I knew at this point that this was something I had never seen before. It was the size of three houses,
and there was no noise, no wind, just calm, and quiet, so quiet that it hurt my ears. I was baffled by the left to right
sequence of lights, when it slowly raised up just enough for me to see that the lights did not go from left to right, but
went in a circle. I could now see the underside of the craft. It was circular, and the lights flashed in a circle on the
bottom. After a minute or two, it went into a magnificent display of brilliant flashing colors. The craft was 'alive' with
light. I watched this display for another minute or two, and then, in the blink of an eye, it shot off to the right and
disappeared into the horizon. I stayed on the grassy mound for a few minutes longer trying my best to figure out what the
heck it was that I just saw. As I stood there, I began to hear crickets, and saw and heard cars go by on the highway, and
it was then that I realized that the entire time I had spent on the grassy mound, no crickets chirped, no cars went by. It
was as though time stood still throughout the entire sighting! I returned to my car, and to prove to myself that I hadn't
lost my mind, asked my wife to tell me what I just saw. She described the entire episode exactly as it happened. I still
dont know if what I saw was our own, or from somewhere...out there...but I did see it, and it really did happen!
Note: In 1977, a few years later, the movie 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' was released to theaters. I went to see it,
and almost jumped out of my seat, for one of the UFO's was exactly like the one I saw a few years earlier! Hey Steven, do
you know something we don't?...grin
