"Close Encounters" of the Ageless Kind

Almost everyone I've ever met, has a 'UFO' story to tell. But, you won't read about these, or see them on TV. Most people
are afraid of being ridiculed, and only share their 'encounters' with close personal friends. And since we are all friends
here, I thought it would be fun, and interesting for all of us to share our 'sightings' in this forum.

I will start by sharing one of my own "Close Encounters"....

It was the early 70's and I was married at the time. My wife and I were traveling from Salem Oregon to Sacrament California.
It was night time and we were a few miles from Ashland Oregon. I noticed a strange red light just above the horizon and it
seemed to be moving. As we got closer, the light began to change colors, from red, to blue, to white in a random order.
Trees and buildings blocked my view until we drove alongside of the city and I could see the houses. The 'light' was now
much larger and was off in the distance hovering over the roof tops. My curiosity was now at a peak, and I pulled over and
parked on the sholder of I-5 to watch it. There were large mounds of grassy hills along side of the highway, and one of
them blocked my view. I got out of the car and climbed the nearest one to get a better view. Once on top, I could see the
'light' still hovering over the roof tops. It moved very slowly, and randomly, from left to right, and up and down. At
this point, I began trying to analyze what this 'light' might be. It was about a half a mile away and when it moved, it
would come to a complete stop...left to right, up and down. I knew it could not be an airplane as they cannot stop in flight,
and there was no noise. It wasn't a helocopter, again, no noise. I thought maybe a blimp, but they 'coast' to a stop.
I observed the object for at least 10 minutes trying my best to explain it, when suddenly, it rose straight up and stopped
at eye level. I could now see a red light at the top, and a row of white lights that flashed in sequence from left to right
and then would stop...flash again from left to right and stop. I watched this for a minute or two when it suddenly darted
straight at me and stopped just in front of me. I don't know how close it was, but I know it was close enough for me to
hit it with a rock without much effort. It's sudden movement startled me so bad that I jumped and grunted outloud! But the
odd thing was that I was not afraid. I felt very calm. It was very dark, and it's lights were so bright that I could not
make out it's shape. I knew at this point that this was something I had never seen before. It was the size of three houses,
and there was no noise, no wind, just calm, and quiet, so quiet that it hurt my ears. I was baffled by the left to right
sequence of lights, when it slowly raised up just enough for me to see that the lights did not go from left to right, but
went in a circle. I could now see the underside of the craft. It was circular, and the lights flashed in a circle on the
bottom. After a minute or two, it went into a magnificent display of brilliant flashing colors. The craft was 'alive' with
light. I watched this display for another minute or two, and then, in the blink of an eye, it shot off to the right and
disappeared into the horizon. I stayed on the grassy mound for a few minutes longer trying my best to figure out what the
heck it was that I just saw. As I stood there, I began to hear crickets, and saw and heard cars go by on the highway, and
it was then that I realized that the entire time I had spent on the grassy mound, no crickets chirped, no cars went by. It
was as though time stood still throughout the entire sighting! I returned to my car, and to prove to myself that I hadn't
lost my mind, asked my wife to tell me what I just saw. She described the entire episode exactly as it happened. I still
dont know if what I saw was our own, or from somewhere...out there...but I did see it, and it really did happen!

Note: In 1977, a few years later, the movie 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' was released to theaters. I went to see it,
and almost jumped out of my seat, for one of the UFO's was exactly like the one I saw a few years earlier! Hey Steven, do
you know something we don't?...grin

This would totally have scared the bejeebers out of me. I probably would have had a heart attack.....or at least hyperventilated. *smiles* I actually have never had a "close encounter", although not too long after I moved here, with my then fiancee, I had a really vivid dream.

I dreamed that we got up and got out of the bed in the middle of the night, and walked way out into the fields.....and there was a very bright light coming from something in the sky. I also remember wondering why we were naked. lol. When I got up in the morning, my fiancee asked me why the back door was standing open. That dream haunted me for a long time...and a couple years later I read a book called, I believe, Communion by Whitley Streiber (sp?), that said a lot of times visits would seem like a dream to the person involved.

OOOOH spooky Joannalee......

My close encounter happened when I was about 13. I was out in the front yard with my sister and my dad was mowing. Just above a grove of trees about 100 yards or so away, there was a saucer-like silver object. It would go from right to left very fast, we would lose track of it, and out the back was a stream of what looked like smoke, but it would disappear as soon as it would appear. It hovered for a while and while hovering, we ran for my dad and he, my sister and I watched it for a while and then whoosh! it disappeared with a flight speed we had never seen.

We lived only 30 miles from the largest in size or ammunition supply (I can never remember which one, the other one is in Colorado) in the United States.

Nope, didn't check my feet. When I woke up, I just thought, "That was the weirdest dream!" I told my fiancee about it, he laughed, and we kind of blew it off. For a while there, especially after I read that book, I was afraid to go to bed at night. I have never had that dream since either.

Hm, no offense, but I have noted that most if not all of those "encounter" stories seem to be coming / appearing in the States :p

Have there been any European sitings (from members here or other reliable sources) ?! ;)

Otherwise I would be a bit sceptical that aliens would insist on visiting the US while ignoring the rest ouf our pretty big planet ;)

Just a thought, and by no means suggestng you guys didn't see "something" ;)

I don't mean any offense by this: But for those who have not had an experience (and NO ONE has said anything yet, so Im not picking on anyone :) PLEASE do not insult our intelligence by telling us it is a weather balloon or something or we are "imagining things" Most of these encounters are hard enough to explain. Remember that we are rational people who would love to understand exactly what these were, but there is no explaination so far. Just about everyone I know has had an encounter of some kind in a way that there is no way they could explain it.

Here is another story from a friend of mine:

NOW THIS SOUNDS CRAZY, so first of all Im going to vouch for the sanity of my friend. This lady was and is a very salt of the earth type person. VERY LEVEL headed. Has raised 3 girls, one adopted, ran a daycare and was adored by the children and the parents, very smart, also taught the kids, not just babysat them. Involved in her community, etc. While at a wedding of one of her daughters, we got to talking about UFOs. Her husband was into secret service type stuff, things he could not even tell his family. This was about 25 years ago that she told me this. Her husband told us btw that there were such things as BIG FOOT, the military already knew that. hummm, I remember we laughed at him, but he was serious. Okay she said that she had only told this story of her encounter to a handful of people, afraid she would be laughed at, or that people would think she was insane.

She said when her daughters were little, they lived way out in the country with her mother. Her husband was gone in the military a lot and she had put the kids to bed one night and heard something outside. She went to the window to look out and she couldnt believe her eyes. Something had "landed" in the pasture next to their house. She said everyone else in the house was asleep. She said she hid and watched while the "spaceship" opened up and these "short creatures" walked out of it, digged in the soil and put the soil in containers. She said she kept thinking she was hallucinating, so she would open and close her looking place, and it scared her so bad, she finally just stopped looking for a long time and when she looked again, they were gone. She had spent the time trembling and terrified, praying for her safety and the kids. She said she NEVER told it to anyone until years later when her husband became involved with the secret service.

Her husband believed her but never commented about it.

My ex husband had a UFO experience. I have had a ghost experience. Are ghost experiences allowed here? I don't know if it fits the thread. But I have been haunted.

When Tru had posted her UFO encounter on another thread last night, I later PM'd her telling her about my own experience because I was too chicken to reveal it publicly. But, since you were brave enough to start an entire thread about it Slaveboy and others are also speaking up, I will go ahead and tell you what I once saw 16 years ago. Besides, hopefully people can tell by my previous posts that I truly am clear headed and not crazy.

My mother and I were sitting on my deck in my backyard. It was probably about 5:00 p.m. on a crystal clear day. No clouds in the sky whatsoever. The sun was shining brightly. She and I were in deep conversation, but we both suddenly stopped talking when we noticed a HUGE silver round ball suspended in the sky over the homes behind my house. When I try to describe its size, I think about it in terms of how Slaveboy described the item he saw... it seemed to be about as large as 3 houses. I remember being able to look at it long enough to notice that there were no seams, no ridges, no rivets, no windows, no lights (but it was broad daylight).

But, the strangest thing of all was how still it was. It was simply just there. No movement whatsoever. No shaking, no jittering. Nothing. It was as if someone had taken a still picture and placed it in the sky. And, there was absolutely no sound at all. Nothing.

Shortly after that, it took off to the left so rapidly that within about 2 seconds, it was completely gone from view. Still no sound, no smoke, nothing remained at all to indicate it had ever been there.

I still cannot believe how still and silent it was, and how rapidly it was gone.

Thank God that my mom was there to witness it with me. Otherwise, I surely would have thought I was crazy.

At that time, there had been alot of sightings in the Corydon, Indiana area, which is about 35 miles away from my home. But, certainly, at that moment in time, neither mom nor I was even thinking about UFO's. We were engrossed in another conversation at the time.

It was very bizarre and solidified my belief that there are other living beings out there. And, why wouldn't there be? The universe is huge.

Ok, now I'm ready for the PM's to start coming to accuse me of being nuts.

edit: by the way, when it took off to the left, that would be in the direction of Corydon where all the rash of other sightings were during that time.

I've had ghostly encounters, too, Swan. Maybe we should start another thread devoted to ghosts?

There are probably films somewhere on the internet, because the Belgium police were involved in tracking the lights. It is a very famous sighting from Europe.

MUFON - Mutual UFO Network - The world's largest civilian UFO research organization.
http://www.mufon.com/ (http://www.mufon.com)

It's a pretty cool site that has the latest UFO news, you can report a UFO sighting, there is a message board, and even a chat room.

I love all the 'Close Encounter' posts so far, but I know there are still some of you that are holding back...grin So, come on, don't be shy, share your encounter. nobodys watching....or are they?
