...'cuz I like to think I'm not otherwise this dumb.

I drove up to Buffalo Friday night to see K. I'd tried to finish all of my coursework before I left, but I didn't quite manage it, so there was a paper due noon yesterday that needed a few more hours' work. I figured I'd do it on Sunday evening when I got back. I failed to check the weather report before I left. This left me driving back to Ithaca Sunday through all the snow we got. The three hour trip took a shade over five hours this time around. Thing was, I didn't regret it a bit. I was furious with myself for not planning better (i.e. finishing the paper beforehand and staying until Monday morning), and annoyed that the end of the visit got shadowed by worrying over the driving conditions, but not once did I regret the visit.

Ugh, though. That drive was awful. I saw about six cars being pulled out of the ditch, and a couple that had hit each other, and one SUV that had somehow hooked a front tire over the guard rail! I made it, though, and now I get to say I have "winter driving experience".

I guess it's safe to say that you've gotten your Winter Cherry broken then. I'm glad that you made to your destiny safely. In that particular case, it's better to make it there later than never.

I remember when it snowed in New Orleans,La. My 20 minute ride home from work took 2 or 3 hours to make.

Ha. This is upstate New York. There's no such thing as a winter driving virgin -- not among those who've been driving here more than six months, anyway. It snows from October through April. Heck, we've had another few inches since the big one last weekend. I do usually try to schedule major trips around the big storms and to put off small trips until the roads are cleared.

I wish I didn't always sound so neurotic on here. Right now I feel like my life is turning into a pop song ("Miss Independent") that I don't even like. It's a humbling experience.
