What are the best ways to feed and moisturise hair and skin and keep them from being dry and britle?

There are all sorts of conditioners sold in many salons and best of all, SALLY'S Salon Supply stores. I would recommend a spray in-leave in conditioner. Check with the clerk in the salon store because they may be able to recommend the right one for the texture of your hair.

As for the skin conditioning, I would either use baby oil on the skin as soon as you are done showering/bathing. Another solution is to use an aloe vera skin conditioner

Just a thought, most ethnic hair companies make a body and hair conditioning oil. I can't remember the company but I remember one of the oils are called "3 in 1" (hair, skin, and nail oil). Check with the salon store clerk to assist you.

Chosen - do you think that would actually moisturize? JUst curious.

I love Vitamin E capsules, I add them by a dallop in my hair conditioners and in my moisterizers, I am on a low carb diet, so I also get the extra oils from sardines, oysters etc....
But the vitamin E capsules, I constantly use and I also take internally.
I swear by Vitamin E for smooth skin, and hair

Ok, I am just being a pest here, but solitude I have some more ideas on what I do, I run a humidifier here, I live in cold dry Minnesota winters, and I run vaporizers in the bedrooms, gives off moister in the air, kinda troical, also for small areas, a crock pot on high or low with water in works, and if you want it to smell good add a dab of vanilla ectract, or coconut or cinnamen!!!(sp)
ALSO when you towel off after a shower either use the baby oil {Chosen suggested} to wet skin, or if you don't use anything never rub yourself with a towel, let the water on your skin dry by itself.

Drink Lots of Water!
It is vital that we "moisturize" ourselves
from the inside out.
Our skin is one big organ and we need
to drink a lot of water to keep it healthy
just as we need it for all our other organs.

Hair:
I have natural curly hair that I do color-treat.
Letting it dry naturally is best.
Blow dryers and curling irons devastate hair.
I use products made by Aussie.
I don't have a ton of money and salon products
are out of my price range.
Aussie doesn't strip my hair and I have little
problems with it being brittle.

Watch out for the "hair sprays" too-
they can really dry out your hair and gum it
up with all kinds of stuff that strips the natural oils.

Also-
I find my hair feels healthier if I wash it less.
I am down to washing my hair 3 times a week
and it seems much healthier.
I know a lot of women that cringe at that idea-
but washing daily also strips your hair of
the natural oils.

A trim my hair regularly too-
about every 3 months and I do it myself.
(Save on bucks...)

Abby, I know lol Brrrr...... I de-brrrr by opening the shower curtain 1/2 way during the final stages of my shower, but why I apply the oil to wet skin is to seal in the moisture from the shower, and the water on your skin makes the oil not go on so thick. It makes it less greasy, and it is easier to spread out. BUT I have noticed Johnsons baby oil is the best for me, I have used generics before, but I like the Johnsons the best.
Another thing you can use too and I love it is pure mineral oil. :)

It seems to work for me. I am currently faced with water retention on my lower legs that's accompanied with dry, brittle skin. As soon as I'm done showering, I rub some baby oil with aloe on them and my skin stays moisterized until my next application.

Water, water, water!! drink LOTS of it..best moisturizer.

Hate to disagree with you but Baby oil is VERY drying to the skin.

The rule of thumb for winter drying due to showering is to moisturize *within* 3 minutes of getting out of the shower..I find and what we recommend for very dry skin is Eucerin cream or Aquafor . Anything that is thick and has to be massaged INTO the skin and not just placed on the skin.

As for the hair...conditioner or possibly try to decrease the amount you wash it during the cold season...if you can tolerate it.

Years ago, I started intaking more good oils by eating raw nuts and seeds, avocados, olives and adding good unrefined oils to my salad dressings. Almond, sesame, flax seed and extra virgin olive oils are my favorites. My skin has been much less dry since that dietary change, but still needs extra protection which I am negligent about. My house is so cold year-round that I don't take the time to apply cream or oil to my body after showering. I have to jump into my clothes as quickly as possible.

My hair is very fine, so I wash it only every other day or, in the winter, every three days sometimes. I use a smoothing shampoo and conditioner since, like Sage's, my hair is very curly. It will never get as long as I want it to; it is so fine that, although I never dye or blow dry it, it shreds at the ends and has to be trimmed frequently. My sister got the good hair. Does anyone know of a super smoother for the hair? The little bottles of anti-frizz products are too expensive for me to use because my hair is so long.

Solitude,

First and foremost, I agree with Patricia with consuming raw nuts for oil and everyone who suggested drinking plenty of water.

In regards to my original post of the body oil, try African Pride Body Oil. It's an oil for hair, skin, and nails and it's all natural. I've used it for years in my hair and skin and have gotten great results.

Good luck and keep us posted!!!
