St. John's Wort?

I am wondering if anyone here has any first hand knowledge of or has ever taken St. John's wort. I have read some online articles about it, some with mixed reviews, some with rave reviews.. I'm hoping someone here can offer more info.

My bf has been taking it for about 2 months now and he swears by it. He started taking it to help him with his mood. He has delt with a little bit of depression for several years. He didn't feel it was serious enough for anti-depressants so, he thought he would try the St. John's Wort. I think that I noticed the difference in his mood after he began taking St. John's Wort even before he acutally did. He just seems happier and I've noticed his mood seems more even keel. He finally noticed the difference when he forgot to take it one day, he said he felt. "down" and kinda blue. Now he takes them religiously.
