Hey Pink Panther,
I just wanted to say how much I liked your little logo underneath your posts. When I house-sat for one of my professors this summer, she gave me a coffee mug with the "We can do it" woman on it since I'm a Women's Studies concentrator. You go girl! The coffee and tea I drink tastes better due to the mug sometimes :-)

YOU GO GIRL!!!

My Dad was in the Navy during WWII. He used to tell me all of the adventures he's been in back then.

I learned about her--or really, about IT, since she was never a real person, just a govornemnt pro-war poster--back in high school. She was supposed to inspire women to go work in the factories while the men were off to war; while I'm not sure I care for her roots, I love Rosie. She seems to mean so much more than she was intended for.

(I have a t-shirt, a pin, and a poster:D )

Thanks, Randi. I got the nickname of Rosie from some people I've worked with at my big cat sanctuary because of my construction skills. :D

When my mom went to D.C. a few years ago she got me a coffee cup with this on it. I think it's hilarious. :p

While they are almost insulting in retrospect, that was a great turning point for women. They showed that they could take on a very important role in society (outside the home) for the first time, which set a precedent for later women's rights activists. They had only been able to vote for a generation and they took charge of one of the largest economies in the world when their country needed them. :)

And the generational differences only get better with these age gaps! K.'s told me about how his father, then a young teen, was literally farmed out during the Depression -- sent to live with (and work for) relatives who were farmers because his parents couldn't feed him. My parents are classic Boomers (1948 and 1954) -- I can hardly imagine!
