CONFESSION: My name is Guy & I'm a Coke Addict!!

That's right my friends. I've been fighting this awfully strange addiction for years now and I just can't seem to be able to kick that strong desire to simply suck down a two liter bottle of Coca-Cola on a daily basis. But now, I've been forced to.

Recently, I've told by my doctor that the surgery to my left knee has to be put on hold due to a fluid buildup in my calves. Though it's not at a point of a blood clot, it could get worst. So since I've been following a low sodium diet since I started training in 85', I figured that it has to be the carbonated sodas.

So if you'd excuse me, I have a *CCA meeting to attend now.

I hear ya, Chosen. I just recently realized that a day without Coca Cola is just not a good day. Diet doesn't cut it and neither do "un-colas". Just a few days ago I began to panic once I realized there was no more Coke in the house. As soon as a pack was purchased, I was wolfing it down like a man dying of thirst in the desert. It makes my mouth happy, especially over ice. Mmmmm......Coke.

Hi, my name is Rhad, and I've been sober (read: soda-free) for three years.

I feel for you guys, I really do. I've been there myself. I can tell you this, though. After about six months, you just don't care anymore. I haven't even had a craving in like two years.

Chosen, are yousure it's soda that's causing the fluid buildup? Has your doc mentioned that or did you research it on your own or is it a hunch? I agree that's a lot of soda (you should probably cut down severely regardless) but make sure there's not something else causing the problem, okay?

Your all gonna despise me-
but I am a totally "Anti-Cola", (in excess).
My kids hate me.

As a matter of fact, I probably consume
maybe 3 to 4 full sodas a year-
and that might be stretching it.
When I do drink soda,
it's 7-Up or Ginger Ale.
Although I do add Coke to my Royal Crown.
Even then, I only have those maybe half a dozen
times a year, (I have a one drink limit),
as I never drink to get drunk.

It's terrible for people's teeth
and that's mainly why I don't let my kids have it.
Of course, the teens buy their own with their money
and I can't stop that.

But before you drag me out into the Town Square
and stone me, let me tell ya,
I am not perfect!
I smoke too much,
which is bad for teeth too!
And I drink way too much coffee, (black).

Good luck in kicking the habit!
(I really do mean that too...)

LMAO at Sage! Call me Ms. Double Standards! Haha I don’t even let my children have fruit juice (I am wacky) they can have the actual fruit or nada. They drink milk and water. I hate soda… my children think it is a REAL TREAT if I let them have diet sprite, which is close to never! Though if I don’t have 5-6 cups of coffee a day and my 3-4 smokes.. I will lose it!!!!!!!! Though Sage is right it is bad for your teeth… I have only had one cavity in my life and that was 20 years ago….. Though on the flip side, I get my teeth bleached every other month due to my ummmmmmm uummmmmm other issues.

Rolls congrats on quitting smoking… I would have already chewed up and spit out the furniture and killed all my loved ones…. *LAUGHS*. That is sooo hard and to take away your caffeine? *GASP* I can’t even think about this.

Choosen….look into my eyes…listen to my voice…”step away from the cola”…”step away from the cola”
:D :D

The only time I really care to have any soda is when I'm eating pizza. Perfect combo! But, usually.....nope, I just never drink sodas...I've always been afraid that the colored sodas would stain my teeth. LOL

I am addicted to water and margaritas :-) yummy!!!

Sage: Do you REALLY add Coke (a cola) to Royal Crown (another cola)? In the opinion of any number of Southerners, RC goes down best with Moon Pies.

Or do you mean you add Coke to Crowne Royale (a whiskey)? IMHO, why screw up a good whiskey?

Oops!
Yep, I mean the whiskey!
:p
I gotta have something with it and for some
odd reason, cola tastes the best.
I have used Pepsi a couple of times.

PINKIE: I actually read about that several years ago in a fat loss book that I had received from Hot Stuff Sports Nutrition. It stated that, "Comsumption of all carbonated sodas, even diet, should be avoided since it's loaded with empty calories and causes water retention." Of course, I knew about the empty cals but the WR was something new to me at the time. When I lost 60 pounds several years ago, alot of it went from cutting out fast foods (a.k.a police discount material) and carbonated drinks from my diet.

Back in 1987, I was dating an LPN who advised me that my addiction was mostly with the caffeine and not so much Coca-Cola. But I'm not sure. But like Datura81 says, just the feel of that taste and acid hitting your throat does it. (btw datura81, EMPTY YOUR PM's....LOL) My addiction is so bad that, prior to my operation in November, I begged the nurses to give me two IV's, one with the required liquid and the other with either coffee or Coca-Cola. I even offered a generous tip in the process.

Rollsharley & Rhad: Keep up the good work. I'm very happy for you and wish you nothing but the best with your goal. Although I thank God for a strong will power. Eventhough I know that I can quit when I'm ready since I've done it before. But my entire bathroom is covered with Coca-Cola items now (shower curtain, towels, soap bottle, etc.). This may not be so easy.........LOL

btw, CCA meeting went well. Someone brought along a Coca-Cola keg..............LOL

COKE..... goes best with CRUZAN rum.

But, other than that,,, it's PEPSI for me....... caffein and all. That is, if I get a craving for it, which is maybe 4-5 times a year.

For me, it's NESTLE QUICK or Hershey's chocolate Milkshake.
2-3 a day at least.

Now, you smokers....... what brand???????

I'm a CAMEL LIGHT kinda guy:cool: .... I own brown ties:D

datura81
01-26-2004, 02:24 AM
I have two brands. Either Parliament Lights or Marlboro Mediums.

P-funks I picked up in college. Marb Mediums are Baker's smoke of choice, and I get sick of lights sometimes. I don't know why, but I have never liked the taste of Camels. I'd rather smoke Old Golds or the gas station brand than Camels.

I used to smoke Turkish Jades religiously. Don't ask me why....since I don't like Camels and now hate menthol with a passion.

Does anyone smoke ***** Sticks? By that I mean Virginia Slims, Misty, or Capri? The only good thing about those is that nobody ever tries to bum from you. If I wanted to smoke a needle I'd have probably picked up some other drug habit by now.

HOW DID MY COKE THREAD BECOME A CIGARETTE OR SMOKING THREAD?

GreeneyedWoman

I used to be a coke head. Then I was a Pepper. I gave up soda.
I finally figured out it was the carbonation that I liked. I drink Canada Dry Sparkling Lemon Lime Water. It's carbonated water with no sweetners or sugar. I have to have my bubbles. It was three years in July that I gave up soda. When I do occassionally drink tea, I drink it straight.
Though last week I did try the new Diet Coke with lime. Not too bad. My husband and daughter both drink diet coke by the gallon.

Never liked soda. I probably have had total of 5 full sodas in the past 5 years. Its too sugary for me. Never smoked either.

I do like coffee and drink about 1/2 cup per work day, but not on weekends. I drink more if I have to drive long distances in the morning.

My biggest (tooth staining) vice has to be red wine. Love the stuff.

ahhhh GOOD WORK, CHOSEN!=) this thread u know...about our lovely vices, addictions....coke, cigs, chocolate....hmmm well I used to drink diet coke by the case...but it does make u retain water...grrrr which I had enough of in my body already....=) gave that up...now drink decaf coffee because Im experiementing with carb intake and I like something SWEET with good (ie...lots of caffeine) coffee. I used to drink coke in college after a night of beers...something about waking up...getting a LOT of ice and downing two cans of COKE...tastes good, LOL. Now cigs...that's a different story....i used to smoke those virginia slim lights....LOL...or anyone remember those long brown cigs that used to look like slim cigars? mhmm what were they called?...was into those at ONE point too;) now I do this addiction 'moderating' thing*smiles....I smoke two salem lights a day....unless Im going out with friends...then...caution to the wind...what the heck...we only live ONCE. OH...and I did switch from michelob to mich ultra, HAHHA...only 2.6 carbs...sounding like an info-mercial now=)

Thanks Singalou.
I fell off the wagon last week but I'm back on the Coke free lifestyle. What can I say? I needed something to go with my Southern Comfort.

EMMIEGIRL: At 1/2 cup of coffee, I think you're doing good. I have a Starbucks cup that I drink my coffee from. It's equivalent to 2 1/2 cups and I often have 2 of them a day (total= 5 cups).:D Maybe that explains why my hands shake like Ozzy Osborne.

I'm a little fortunate to have 2 lemon trees in front of my apartment........LOL. I usually buy a box of tea bags from a mechanic at my job and brew it at home.

But you are so right about Arizona Teas. They are killer good but hella expensive too.

cola
or any caffienated drink
makes you thirstier

we broke my YM's 'coke' habit with fizzy mineral water
he liked the sensation
we figured out
so replaced the cola with mineral water - carbonated

he still drank some cola
but not as much

You're right, ArayBright. The caffeine is the addiction and it makes you drink more.

But for a while, I drank the same thing that your YM did. At least, I did when I was too lazy to brew some green tea. I had about 3 one liter bottles of flavored water. I love the strawberry and the orange flavors. They actually taste the same as the drinks.
