Valentine's Ideas

I find myself this year in a position to observe Valentine's Day for the first time, well, ever, if you don't count buying cards for the whole class in elementary school.

I don't want to make a big deal out of it, but it seems like a good excuse to do someting special (and I do love a good excuse). We're both on limited budgets -- any suggestions for relatively cheap, fun ways to mark the day?

Well my dear. This year V-Day is on a Saturday!! So, depending how the weather is where you are, you can plan a really cute, romantic picnic (I am!) complete with red wine, homemade sandwiches, goodies & of course a card :-)

If that is out of the question, then I would suggest maybe planning a nice dinner at home! Rent one of your honey's fav. movies, if you have a fireplace- light it up!- and just bring the picnic idea home!

Again, since its on a saturday the ideas are so much more workable!

I am planning a nice romantic picnic down at the beach, or a nearby park if the beach is too chilly. We are also on a tight budget so going out to eat at a super spiffy resteraunt wouldn't be very smart.

I hope everyone gives some more creative ideas!! I could use them too!!!http://secondwivescafe.com/smilies/angelheart.gif

I gave Tom this gift for his birthday the first year we were together. I went a bought a blank book at a bookstore. Then I hit the local public library and checked out poetry anthologies. I read every poem in each anthology, selecting the words that said what my heart was feeling about Tom. Then I filled up the book with the poems I chose, plus a few of my own, by handwriting the poems into the book.

The entire gift cost about $10 (the cost of the blank book), but it was priceless to Tom, who still keeps it in his nightstand. He tells me he still reads it (almost 8 years later), even though we are not together right now.

It took me about 2 weeks to complete (so plenty of time for Valentines Day), and I was actually sad when I was finished because working on the project made me very happy and made me feel close to Tom.

Have you had an ultrasound lately? If yes then use that pic...or get it copied on plain paper - or photo paper (you can do it yuorself if ya got a scanner - or go to KINKOS) and get it framed in a nice, simple, cheap silver frame...you may even be able to find a cheap silver frame at the DOLLAR STORE!?!?!?!
I gaurentee he'll love it! :D
Thats what'd I do...if I were in your "position".

I love your name, everytime I read it I think of the Best in Show movie, where the guy from Georgia, recites all the nuts....and he says, HAAAZELNUT.

It prompted me to start a thread on the OTHER side about how you picked your screen name at ageless! Good job, lol

ANYway...

my brother's girlfriend and i were brainstorming on what to do for our guys for v-day. last year P (my bro) was dating this girl, and she gave hime this box she decorated with cutouts. it was cute, but not especially well done. H knows about it so she wants to "outdo" her and make him a special box and decopage photos of them, special images, etc and put some little presents inside...chocolates, little notes, etc. i just remembered something else sweet she did for him, i think it was for his birthday - she went to one of those trophy stores and bought a little trophy, and had it engraved with "boyfriend of the year - 2003" and mailed it to him. he ate it up and brought it to class that day to show his friends.

one year i got a homemade card from the guy i was seeing... inside he had written a note in glue and poured glitter on it so when it dried just the glitter showed. i thought it was so sweet...i saved it and it still makes me smile.

i'm not very good about buying presents for holidays so i might just go out of my way to make him feel special - offer a long body massage, walk downtown in the moonlight (if it warms up by then), maybe make him a cd of songs that we like...the guy i'm seeing now is ridiculously romantic and sweet so i might let him take the lead this year. we work together, so we are always leaving little notes, candies, etc in each other's lockers. a couple of weeks ago he typed up a really nice letter he had written me, put it in a sealed envelope and left it for me to find. it really warmed my heart and made me think of him the rest of the day.

Good idea Calybo!
For one of my gifts I am doing a similar thing like the box idea...only in a scrapbook. Printing out love lyrics on handmade paper, writing poems, decopaging photos (use modpodge glossy -it works the bestest ever!), making pockets to put our ticket stubs from movies and concerts that we went to in, as well as for cards we exchange at holidays and just for fun...decorating it up good with glitter, confetti and stickers!
Since i am an "artist" I am also drawing and painting little tid bits throught it also...
He kinda knows what I am doing...but it'll still be a surprise because I am not letting him look at the pages until he gets it on Valentines.

Also, as soon as we get our wedding photos back from the photographer I will scan them in and decopage them on a paper mache box...then put our wedding cards we recieved in it...makes a good conversation piece to set on the bookshelf - I have already done this in a seperate box from photos when we were dating and put in the cards from that time period...

Okay, I am taking my man on a scavenger hunt. He is getting the "game plan" courried to his work on that Friday with a note and hint where to find the 1st clue! I have a lot of people in on this and it is fun. Though should he correctly guess the movie quote from the first clue and decipher the Movie store he will find clue number 2 and a hotel key in the empty movie box. I had to sweettalk the little 20 year old manager for this one.

The next clue leads him to the wine store where I already bought the bottle and attached the clue... though he must bring this with him. The next leads him to victoria secrect...

so on and so one till he finds me with all the "stuff" I have had him scavenger for! I am still working on this finishing touches, though most is ready to go! I have had a lot of fun with this!

It will take him around 1-2 hours to complete and I will reward him GREATLY! :D :D :D :D :D

Wow insearch! I've done scavenger hunts...but not like that...that's awesome!!!

I once collected the little "love is..." clippings and put together a big scrapbook of all the "Love is.." I don't get that newspaper any more, but luckily....you can get them here:
Love Is (http://www.comicspage.com/loveis/index.html)

I another year, I bought two photo boxes, 365 envelopes, some construction paper, stickers, scissors and all sorts of fun stuff and wrote out 365 reasons why I loved him....it lasts a whole year. One envelope for everyday!

O.K. with V-day approaching I thought I would throw another idea out.

Since its on a Saturday you can take your honey out at night for some nightlife. Maybe some dancing http://secondwivescafe.com/smilies/drunks.gif ??!! LOL
I know that I'm going to take 'C' out that night for some tango dancing!! I'm so excited. V-Day just so happens to fall in the middle of the Tango Festival in Santa Barbara...so theres a lot of activities to go see.
I don't know if regular (club)dancing is romantic for V-day...but maybe some latin dancing?! Just a suggestion!! :-) http://secondwivescafe.com/smilies/angelfly.gif
