Office PoliticsTyg 01-23-2004, 03:42 PM Any tips on office politics and how to stay away from it? What triggers it? How to stop from being a victim of it? Please share your tips :) youngguy914 01-25-2004, 06:27 PM thats actually some good advice lostspoiled!:) marcy 01-26-2004, 08:05 AM I whole heartedly agree with Lost's List ;). Here are some things I would add! 1. Socialize outside of work! Don't become emotionally involved at work and if you do have close personal friends at the office, maintain a professional relationship during work hours. 2. Do attend workplace social events BUT remember they are WORK! Do not drink with co-workers if you can at all help it and if you do... small sips of one glass of wine or beer for the whole night should suffice. 3. Ask your boss to lunch with you offsite ;). This is a good one. But... make sure your table manners are GREAT and observe business ettiquette while lunching. Tyg 01-26-2004, 10:14 AM I want to tell you guys and gals about an experience I had at a company party back in 1996. One of the vendors for this one cognac brand invited us to the Ritz Carlton (Marina Del Rey). It was so cool. I had two female co workers got drunk so bad that they spilled their coffee on the rug. I am sure that word spread around so quickly the next day. Another company party story........two people from different departments got so drunk that when they tried to dance with the same gal from the previous story...a fight in the dance floor almost got started. Even the next day, they still hate each other's guts and it affected their work. I agree with you all about drinking in a company party. marcy 01-26-2004, 10:19 AM Okay here's a story from 2002's x-mas party... It was at the VP's house and one guy in our dept got completely wasted. He pee'd off the VP's balcony and kept following his wife around and trying to talk to her. Best part? He kept calling the VP's wife Janet. Her name is Claire! LMAO... guess where the x-mas party WASN"T this year?! |
