Cloth vs Disposeables?

Hi all. I realize that many more women use this board, so I am curious about your opinion. I have just had a baby about 6 months ago.I am the younger women, but I seem to realize that more women respond on this side, so I felt I should choose this side, lol. What diapers would you suggest, cloth or disposeable? I have used cloth before and it just doesnt seem to work out for me. Disposeables seem to work out more. However, cloth is inexpensiove, so I am in quote a bind on what I should choose. Conveinence or cost effective? What do you think?

Disposable. I found Wal Mart had a great diaper brand when my kids were babies and I stuck with it until the last one was potty trained.

Cloth is a royal pain - extra laundry, soaked clothing if you use the sling holders, it's pricey if you use a diaper service and if you use pins and don't watch what you're doing it's not pretty.

Disposable.

I would go with disposeable diapers if I were you. Cloth are too difficult to maintain and it becomes too much of a hassle. Especially when you're little one's gets older and active, cloth will be too much. Go disposeable, thats why they are readily available. You can always find discounts at any store,so obviously they are readily available. Hope this helps

DISPOSABLE....fer sure! Really, seems more cost effective to use cloth ones..but I suppose if you count your TIME, detergent....liners for overnight use, plastic pants.... it isnt enough for me to use cloth again....you cant really beat the convenience of disposables. I hate flushing those diapers....rinsing...washing....wringing....soon as you get one load DONE...there's another waiting. The first time your child goes on AUGMENTIN as an antibiotic....you'll definitely go for disposables....nothing worse than really loose stools with CLOTH diapers....I think disposables are more sanitary too as you dont have diapers lying around waiting to be washed. The comment about walmart brand is true...if you buy in bulk you save a little bit more and they are not as expensive as luvs, huggies, pampers etc. I use Walmart for daytime and luvs for naps/night....watch online and the sunday newspaper for coupons...to cut costs even more.

I tried cloth diapers when my son was a baby because everyone told me that would be best for him. Boy, did I soon find out differently. Cloth diapers are nasty. I soon switched to disposable and never regretted it for one second.

Well I must be the odd one out here as I used cloth for both of mine and as they r so close in age I actually had them both in diapers for about a year......... Possibily disposables r less work, I also found they caused more rashes etc ...... Cloths just require that u set up a routine for dealing with them an stick to it........ an certianly cost a whole lot less ............... even today I would still use cloth ........ then again I have never been in favour of wrapping babies in paper gowns either or using paper sheets , so I guess I am just old fashioned :D

I would have to say disposeables. they are easier to maintain and i think comfortable. as many of you know i was potty trained very late and was in diapers until my early teens. plus they are always available and you dont have to worry about getting them cleaned. i know that many look at being cost effectivness but i beleive convienience should win over in this cae. just my opinion. hope you are getting good advice here.

When out and about I would use the disposables, but on a nice day at home I would use cloth. Unless baby has a bad allergy reaction to one. Good luck.

Well, being the Mom to 5 kids-
I feel it is my duty to respond to this thread.
LOL

I tried cloth diapers with my
2 oldest children,
(they are 24 and 22 now).
I was a single parent and disposable diapers
were quite spendy back then.
It was terrible using them!
My oldest was allergic to the plastic pants,
(the elastic in them)-
and both ended up with bad rashes.
I even pinned my oldest's skin one time
when I was in a rush to diaper him!
YIKES!!
I also hated the routine of rinsing them out
and washing them.
PeeeeeUuuuuuuuuuuuu!!

Disposables are much better
and I have noticed that they have "diaper wars'-
where the companies try to out-do the
others and you can get them real cheap.
There are a lot of coupons to clip for disposables too!!
But nothing compares to how they cut
down on the mess!!
I think they are better in regard to rashes
on baby too!!

I will add though-
cloth diapers make GREAT dust rags!

Oh-
and Brian..
Please tell me you are just kidding about
being in diapers till you were a teen!!
If it is true-
was it a medical problem?
(Don't mean to pry-
but since you mentioned it...)

DITTO!
Those were a total waste of time!
(Don't even get us started on the subject
of potty-training!)
LOL

And yes-
the cloth diapers make superb burp cloths!
As a matter of fact,
I purchased a package of cloth diapers,
(wow- I was shocked at how expensive they are!),
for my daughter when she had Trinity.
As a matter of fact I am babysitting Trinity today
and the cloth diaper-burp rags came in real
handy this morning!!

No Sage, I am not kidding. I never had a medical problem according to doctors. So they say? Anyways I was in diapers until I was 13, but now I am out which is a good thing. Obviously with this thread I can give someone advice as I remember my days in diapers. Hope everything is great with everyone. If anyone needs advice on this matter, I am sure I can answer.

Brian, are you saying that you were in diapers 24/7 until you were 13? Or only at night time? Sorry, but now you have me curious, too. I had a brother who wet the bed until his teens, so am curious.

Hey whiterose

I was in diapers 24/7 until about 11 years old. I had to wear diapers at night until 13. How come you brother had to?

Mellissa....

I am now pregnant.. and I would use nothing but Disposible.. unless my child was allergic or couldn't wear them for some reason....

I am favoring Pampers myself..... But I will try a few brands out first... to see which I like the best.....

We never did know why. But, he eventually stopped when he grew out of his teens.

Huggies are good too Mera-
and I think Luvs did well also.

I just purchased whichever was on sale between
Pampers, Huggies and Luvs.

Oh!
Here is an idea for you.
We did this at my daughter's baby shower.
I am sure you will have a baby shower given for you
and you'll love it if they do this.

Ask all the guests to bring a package
of disposable diapers to the shower with them
and when they show up with their package
of diapers, put their name on a slip of paper
and then have a drawing for a special prize at
the end of the shower.
I had a nice fresh floral arrangement as the prize,
(it also served as a nice shower decoration
on my coffee table until the drawing).
The gal that won the flowers-
loved it!

My daughter loved having all the diapers
after her baby came!!

Of course,
you don't have to use flowers as the prize.

Thanks for everyone's input. I think I am convinced that diposebales are the best way to go. I have found that luvs has the best prices for me. I think I am looking at price first and see what can absorb the best. I have found that luvs is cheap and doesnt leak like a regualr cheap diaper. Thats what I found since I heard some of your imput. Thanks again.
