As Rollsharley suggested...here's some technical terms that might apply to this board...and a description of them...
Avatar - An avatar is basically a small graphical representation of you. Now, that sounds wierd. On this forum, it is a small picture that appears below your username when you post. Avatars can be pictures of yourself or of random things. For this site, an avatar must be under 10,000 bytes or smaller than 100 x 100 pixels (whichever is smaller).
Upload - In "forum terms"....to upload something, means to take a file (usually a picture) from your computer...and transfer it to your post. It will appear on a post/reply in the forum of an attachment.
Attachment - An attachment is usually a link at the end of a person's post. It is a link right beside what looks to be a paperclip. When you click on the link...the attachment will pop up on your screen in a new window. On the ageless site, valid file's that can be attached are .gif .jpg .png .txt .zip .bmp .jpeg. Gif, jpg, bmp, png are different file extentions for graphics/pictures. .txt is a file extention for a text document (usually created by using notepad, but other programs will create it as well) and a .zip is the file extention for a Zipfile (a compressed file).
ISP - Internet Service Provider. This is who you get your internet service through. A common one is something like AOL...or Comcast or Roadrunner, even Yahoo.
Cookies - No, not chocolate chip or Oreo's! A cookie in forum terms, is a small file that is created on your computer when you visit the site. A cookie from this site, is harmless. What it contains is information pertaining to this site...like your username and password. It is used to remember your log in details. If you are constantly having to relog in each time you come here, it is perhaps because your security settings in your browser's "Internet Options" is set too high and you are unable to accept the cookie.
User Control Panel - On the board, it is marked by a little graphic entitled "User CP"...this is where you can go and change a variety of the settings. Such as avatars, user titles...but also passwords, email settings, PM settings, board settings...basically, you can somewhat personalize your browsing experience...
Host - No, we are not going to make you a host body for an alien to inhabit your body! And you aren't starting a garden party! There are actually different definitions for "Host" where computers is concerned. However, we'll narrow it down to a certain case. Say you have a graphic you want to post. You have it on your computer. YOu could upload it as an attachment.
However, if you have a place to HOST the graphic...you could use the "Img" button where you create the thread/reply and copy the URL into that line and post it that way. A host, is some place that offers webspace, where you can host files. There are a variety of them...probably the easiest one's to use are at http://www.picturetrail.com and http://www.ecomplanet.com
If you use one of those and have a problem, I can offer some help to get you on your way!
FAQ - This stands for Frequently Asked Questions. There is a link/button at the top of the forum that leads to a FAQ for this site. There, you can find answers to some questions that might be constantly asked.
More terms will be added as people ask about them or as I discover one's that need to be added!
I hope everyone finds this useful...
