ukfireball 03-09-2004, 01:48 PM I saw a thread on this a few months back, and I can't find it now.
I have the most beautiful Spanish tutor, I am a few years older than everyone else in my class, but she is just 9 years older than me, and likes to flirt by saying stuff like, would I like to buy her some diamonds in Spanish and stuff like this, but deep down I think she is very shy, and if it's not too late, then I will have to get off my bu** and do something about it!
But my main point in this threads, is to ask people what their views and judgements are on dating your teacher, and has anyone been there, and done this?
Bella_D 03-09-2004, 02:20 PM Hi Uk fireball,
I teach at a university in Australia and its `highly frowned upon' for us to date our students because of the imbalance of power and potential for favourism. What is the situation for your tutor? Will there be professional consequences for her if she dates you? Also, you didn't mention if shes single.
ukfireball 03-09-2004, 03:39 PM Thanks Lynn!

I really don't know if there are professional consequences for university tutors to date their students or not, although I have heard of some other cases at my University, with the students being a closer age to their Tutors. She certainly isn't married, and as far as I know she is single; she is in charge of her department, and works very long hours, I also have a very full schedule as I work too, but we said we'd get together for some study reasons (:D) after the exams in May, so we'll take it from there.
marcy 03-09-2004, 09:14 PM finally... something I know something about...
I once dated my math professor in college as an undergrad. Our relationship started in one class and continued through my next class with him. It was seriously frowned upon by the university. However, as these things tend to do, others in the math dept found out and I was "asked" to transfer to an alternative class mid quarter. I did so and I continued to see him for years.
HadleyManassas 03-09-2004, 10:10 PM Univ. of Md, VCU, Univ. of NC at Charlotte, VaUnion Univ, JSReynolds, John Tyler, I will tell you that we always had to sign statements that said we would not solicit, encourage, or submit to fraternization with students sexual or just socializing as we might end up being sued for sexual harrassment when we merely thought we were flirting with some eligible person...I had one college freshman ask me out once, and I quickly let him know I was married at the time...he didn't notice the ring. However, I recall a girlfriend who had a PhD at UVA and she taught freshman Biology and regularly kept a freshman lover...at the time she was 35, he was 18...it was considered very taboo, very unethical, and all her friends including myself felt it broke the student/faculty boundaries...but UVA is known to break those codes between fac. and students as a party school...however, dating a prof is different from dating a grad student asst. who drops in to teach some of the classes, and certainly 'tutor' might mean something a bit different in UK than here...but tutor in the USA means helper not teacher...if that is all she is, then go for it, but do so not verbally, send her an email or attach a note to one of your papers...see the reaction...give her a chance to say yes or no via that sheet...
expect any reaction...Hadley
UK,
Usually there are strict policies in school dating teachers while in school. But I think that when you finish taking classes and not there anymore, there might be a chance to date a teacher. I don't know what the policies are there in Europe. There is this one school administrator I want to ask out for coffee and talk about metaphysical stuff but it is tough because I am a student and she is a director of admissions. I really think that if you really like that teacher, I think that it's really your choice on whether or not to persue something.
