I have a Samsumg "triband" (does that make any sense in English?) that I use here in Lux and I wonder if I can buy a chip in the US with a local number and use it while I'm there.
Does anyone know? My mobile works abroad, but as I have to use the roaming, it is not very cheap. I would rather buy a temporary number like we do in France. :)

I will ask Hikmet when he gets home from work tonight (if I can catch him before he falls asleep on the sofa). He has a phone with a chip which he can transfer to another phone if he wants. He just changed to T-Mobile and I think that his phone is Nokia. There are prepaid phones which you can buy. I am not sure how the plans work, but here is a link to T-Mobile's:

Thanks, Pat, I wonder if I can use my telephone with that kind of system. I don't think so since mine uses a chip... in Brazil I always get my sister's mobile for the time I'm there and I charge it, because before they didn't use the chip system. Now they are using both and I believe next time I'll be able to use my own phone with a local number.
I can use Jason's mobile, but then if we are not together I can't contact him and as he has college and work, if I want to go out I prefer to have my own mobile.

I looked at that site Patricia sent and another Mel sent and it says for 50 dollars I can get one. Do you think this is the cheapest I'll find Nessa? It seems okay!

Hikmet says that he thinks that you can buy just a prepaid chip/card for your own phone. Call your service or call Samsung and ask them what to do.

Wallmart, I have to go there, that's also American Culture! :D
And I'll check about the chip, Patricia, as I already have a very good phone, I would imagine that just buying the chip would be cheaper... I will call my service here and see what they can tell me. I'm so bad with these things! :(
