Maria 04-11-2004, 04:14 PM What is the most mysterious, the strangest thing that happened in your life?
Something you can't explain by our normal science? Something paranormal?

RobsGirl 04-11-2004, 04:22 PM I was a minister's wife for way too long, don't even get me started. <G> Ever been to an exorcism???? And no, we ain't talking Linda Blair and pea soup here. . .
Maria 04-11-2004, 04:41 PM Now I'm curious!! :p
islander 04-11-2004, 05:01 PM I don't share this too often, but here goes...
As I was driving home from college one day, I made a turn off the interstate and looked off in the sky... it was rather bright with the sun reflecting off the clouds and it affected my vision. I looked ahead and with my left eye I could not even read the license plate of the car in front of me.
I thought it would go away in a few minutes, but it didn't, and I also noticed that my peripheral vision in my left eye was pretty bad... my right eye was still okay, but my left had just suddenly gotten very bad.
I was never very religious growing up, but I had some understanding of Christianity. I turned down my radio and I asked God to restore my vision. I really prayed for the first time in my life. Literally, the moment I said "Amen," my left eye's vision came back. It literally was like a curtain lifting and I could see with my peripheral vision again. I could read the license plate. I could read my speedometer. I turned the radio up again and the song on it was "California Dreamin'" (I listen to the oldies... I guess I like my music the same as my women... :D) It was on a verse that I have always misheard. I thought the line said "I got down on my knees and I began to pray" (rather than pretend to pray)... but that's what I heard the second I turned up the radio.
Later on down the road, my vision started getting poor again. Just as it did, a car drove by me with a bumper sticker for a religious radio station on it. I thought "is this another message to me?" and I tuned to the station. I didn't hear anything special, so I went to change it back, and I hear the voice on the radio say "You think I'm done, but I'm not!" I left the station on, and she preceded to talk about Saul's conversion.... Now, I was at a college that required us to take either an Old Testament or a New Testament cl@ss, so I knew enough about the Bible to know that Saul's conversion happened when he was looked into the sky and was blinded by a vision on the 150 mile road to Damascus. The town where I saw the sun so bright is 150 miles from my house.
I drove home practically every weekend, so on the anniversary of that date, the next two years, when I drove home I wanted to see what song would play at that intersection where I first had trouble seeing. I swear to you, the first year, the song was "Nobody but you" by the Turtles, on the verse: "A little ray of sunshine, a little bit of soul". The following year was "And I Thank You" by Sam and Dave, at the line "Put your arms together and your hands together and give me some of that old soul now..." There were a couple of other "coincidences" that came up, but I don't want to bore you with the details...
But on this Easter day, I am grateful to the Lord for coming into my life on that odd February day.
I have had Lord experiences but I will share a paranormal one with you.
When I was about 10 my mother and father went out for the evening and left my 13 year old brother and I home ( my grandfather lived there too but he was in another part of the house ) Well we went to bed in my parents room, they had twin beds, because we didn't want to be alone. Later my parents came home and my father came in to check on us and then said good night and left the room, closing the door.
I immediately called him to ask him for a drink of water and he couldn't get back in the room, the door wouldn't open. My brother got up and discovered the dresser was in front of the bedroom door. It took a lot of shoving to get it out of the way.
After that the house was full of strange things, we heard things, and the burners on the stove would come on by themselves, in the middle of the night the bathtub would start running. All kinds of things.
And as abruptly as it started it all ended.
If you know about the phenomena of poltergeist, they usually are drawn to girls about to start menstruating. And leave when they have started. This fit this situation.
whiterose 04-11-2004, 05:18 PM I have several mysterious stories about things that happened to me in my life, but this is the story I like to share the most. For those who have heard it, please forgive me for repeating myself...
When my son was 14 months old, I was driving him to Indianapolis (2 hours north of me) on a very cold winter day. It was about 14 degrees F. outside, but with the windchill, it was much, much colder.
He was strapped in his car seat and was drinking milk from his sippy cup, when he suddenly pulled off the lid and spilled milk all over himself.
I pulled over into the emergency lane of the interstate highway and got out of the car to go back to the rear of the car where I stored some paper towels. I had taken off my coat for the long drive, as well as my gloves, so they were inside the car. After I retrieved the paper towels, I tried to get back into the car and realized I had locked myself out of it. I was outside the car, freezing!! And, my son was inside the car with the heater going full blast!!
I freaked out. It is unbelievable how quickly I was becoming cold. And, how quickly he was sweating inside the hot car. Cars and trucks were flying past me on the road. No one would stop. I looked around for something to break the windows, but could not find even one single rock. I tried to get Ryan to reach the lock to unlock the door. Even if he had been old enough to understand me, there was no way his little arms could reach it. I began to cry and scream for help. I finally said a prayer asking God to help me.
Moments later, a gentleman stopped his car and I explained the situation to him and he said he would drive back to the last exit and call the police for me. All I could do was stand there and shiver and cry.
Not long after he pulled away, another car pulled up. A man in a soldier's uniform got out. He asked me absolutely no questions. Nothing like, "what's wrong, lady?" Nothing. He simply opened his trunk, pulled out a blanket and a pair of gloves and gave them to me. He said "Don't be afraid, help is on the way." I thanked him and he got in his car and drove away.
Finally, the police officer and the first gentleman who had stopped arrived. The policeman unlocked my car for me. I thanked him and the first gentleman. I then said "I especially thank you for sending that man here to give me the blanket and gloves." They both looked at each other in confusion and had no idea what I was talking about. They said they had not told anyone else that I was even there.
I knew immediately that the soldier was actually an angel sent to help keep me warm while I waited for help to arrive. :)
BadDreamer999 04-11-2004, 06:40 PM WoW whiteRose!! chills!
I was at the airport, on a particular busy day, and you know parking can be hecktic..anyway, i was picking up my Japanese friend in his vehical..i was parking and it just dies..some battary failure...and I was stuck in the carport..then this white haired man pulled up behind me...saw I was in distress, and got his jumper cables out and gave me a boost...after closing the hood, he was gone..and traffic was one way, and he could not get p***ed my car blocking traffic...i knew he was an angel...amazing!
whisper 04-11-2004, 07:47 PM Oooohh, I've had many of them. My favorite and most cherished one was when my sister came to me just after she p***ed away (I didn't even know then that she had died). She only said my name a couple of times, but it said so much to me in that her voice was so strong - she sounded just like she had before she'd gotten so sick from cancer. Until that moment, I hadn't realized how much her voice had changed over the years from the cancer. With that visit, I become convinced that death was not the end....it was only the end of her pain and suffering. Whenever I start to doubt that we are more than our physical bodies, I just think back to that moment and my doubt disappears.
You could call it a coincedence... but there is no such thing right?
My adopted son was born on the day that I was born again.
Though I didn't meet him for 4 1/2 years. I think he was born for me.
RobsGirl 04-11-2004, 10:02 PM I've had a lot of weird paranormal stuff happen over time. I think I shared on another string about the haunted parsonage we lived in on the East coast. After we moved away from the state we found out that there were two bodies buried in the basement from the turn of the century, creepy, creepy.
Well, on to the exorcism. Actually, there were a few over time that stand out. As most everybody knows, I used to be married to a minister. While he was a total *** as a spouse, he WAS a good minister, talk about your oxymorons.
First, I'll give you the understated one. We got a call once from a young couple who were renting this trendy house in a seaside town, they were having "problems" with it. Their son kept seeing people standing outside his windows looking in - on the second floor. Things would move around by themselves, they'd wake up to weird screams in the middle of the night. So, we jaunted on down to this house. Little did we know. . .
Now, I know we have a wide selection of folks here at Ageless who believe a wide variety of things, so, my next comment might offend somebody, I'm sorry if it does, but, NEVER, EVER, play with a OUJA BOARD. Those things are more than a piece of cardboard and planchette. They are like any other occult item and dangerous, especially in this particular house.
As the ex and the ***ociate pastor went from room to room praying, odd shit started to happen. Books started to fall off the shelves, something that sounded like something slapping against the windows went across the back of the house, back and forth, repeatedly. Now, I'm in the living room with the couple's children and at that point, I'm praying my little heart out because it was damn creepy, especially about the time the little boy says, "SHE'S going to start screaming now, she does that whenever the books fall". Sure enough, this whining sound went throughout the house and it got louder and louder and then suddenly, it stopped.
Okay, got to stop here for a sec and describe this house for you - the living room was three walls of floor to ceiling windows with NO curtains and it's night out. It was BLACK out there. I look up and you could see forms outside the windows, and you got the eeriest feeling that you were being watched. Then the slapping sound started again and the ex and ***ociate are getting louder as they prayed. Well, the lady of the house pipes up, "What if we get the Ouja board and ask it what it wants?" The ex and the ***ociate look at her like she's nuts and say "WHAT?". Come to find out, this woman was playing with this thing that somebody had left behind in the house and basically "invited" whatever it was to stick around asking it to come visit. Wellllll, they took care of that in quick order, finishing up the prayers and burning the board. They never had a problem again.
Now, on to the really freaky scary one that nobody will believe me about and I probably wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't have been there. People shy away from the notion of demons, it crosses the "paranormal boundaries" into the freaky zone, but those with religious backgrounds know ***uredly that there is a Satan, he got tossed out of Heaven and got to take his buddies with him. They're not nice guys.
The ex was called by a church member in regards to a family member that was staying with them. We'd never met this guy, we knew little about him, other than that he'd had some problems with what they thought was mental illness and he was living with his sister, the church member. Poor "C***ie" was at her wits end. The guy was acting very strangely, carrying on full conversations with himself and doing himself bodily harm that, on the surface, mimicked schizophrenia a little - the reality was the opposite. C***ie discovered this when she accidentally dropped her Bible and it landed in the man's lap. He literally JUMPED out and OVER the back of the seat and onto the floor, landed on his knees and GROWLED. C***ie figured it was time to call the minister.
So, the ex got the call and, of course, I had to go, I ALWAYS had to go (Heaven forbid I went and got a life whilst he was gone). We arrived at the house and this guy was sitting in a chair in their den, back to the wall, just staring. I stayed in the hall but had a great eyes view. He was just glowering and the moment the ex stepped in the room, there was this low, gutteral sound the emitted from his throat, although he didn't seem to move his lips. His eyes were really dark, the look on his face was just mean and nasty. As is done, the ex made an attempt to introduce himself and the guy shut him up - he looked up and TOLD him his full name and age. He then told him to get the $#()$*%@)#(* out.
The ex said what needed to be said and the guy literally THREW himself down on the floor and started SCREAMING. It was the creepiest thing. He screamed and screamed and screamed and the ex is speaking in this authorative manner, telling the demon he had to vacate and hightail it back to hell. It didn't go quietly. The guy began to beat his head on the floor while lying on his back then he rolled over and hissed and spit and it was just disgusting, the ex started to pray really loud, rebuking the demon and telling it where to go and then it was over, just like that.
It turned out that he'd been hanging out with this coven of witches that was big into summoning spirits and he'd ended up possessed in the process. He's now a minister.
Okay, that's enough freaky stuff. Some day, when you're in the mood to be really scared, I'll tell ya'll some more.
:)
RobsGirl 04-11-2004, 11:03 PM I believe Christians are protected because they can't be possessed, they can only be oppressed, meaning their lives can be affected but not controlled by such an outside influence. At the same time, I think that those who stand outside Christianity and never experience anything aren't exactly "protected", they've just never done anything to encourage such a situation. In over a decade of church work, situations I saw that required that type of intervention almost always stemmed from some sort of involvement with occult activity - whether it be Ouija boards, tarot cards, witchcraft. Some people have no desire or urge to mess with the unknown, so their lives seem well protected. At the same time, I also so instances where the person hadn't done anything, it was a random situation where they were, 'chosen', for lack of a better word.
I tell you one thing, that's one part of the job I DO NOT miss!!! I am SO happy to be happily involved with a legal person. There's no hissing or spitting involved!!
Yeah, I'm mysterious about how I got a daymn tiny mole on my a$$!?!?!?!?!?
RobsGirl 04-12-2004, 12:18 AM Jews AND Italians?? You're safe. Demons might be scary but they aren't stupid. Only an idiot would tangle with somebody with THAT background!! :D
whiterose 04-12-2004, 11:03 AM Ok, here's another story that I may have told once before. In the summer of 1979, I worked at St. Joe's Hospital in Lexington, Ky. as an RN working on their OB/GYN unit just before it was closed that summer. Census was very low at this Catholic hospital's OB unit. Most people were delivering babies at the other hospitals in town, where they could get a tubal ligation right after delivery.
There was no way onto the unit except to p*** by me at the nurses station. There were double doors there that were very loud when they opened and shut. Those doors were right in front of the nurses station. The only other two doors were locked so that anyone entering from the stairwell had to use a key to get in. We could of course get out, but no one could get in. The security guards never ever patrolled our unit because it was a female ward and was so well closed off from the rest of the hospital.
I worked the night shift (11 pm - 7 am). One night the census was very low, only about 6 patients. They were spread out all over the L shaped unit. But, there were no babies in the nursery and no patients in Labor and Delivery. Only a few women who were recovering from GYN surgery and an elderly female patient. Because the census was low, I was the only person scheduled to work that night. No one with me. Just me.
That night was a VERY slow night. I checked on all the patients and they were fast asleep by about midnight, including the husband of a woman in the private room at the end of the hall. I hated going in there when he slept there. He slept on a cot by the door and his shoes were off and his feet were so smelly! :(
I went to the nurses station and charted, and waited for someone to ask for something. No one ever did. The entire night.
Sometime around 3:00 a.m., I heard heavy footsteps walking in the hall. The sound was a man's heavy, leather shoes... walking up and down the hallway. hmmmmm, I thought. The only man on the unit was that man with the smelly feet. I went there first to see if that was him. He was still asleep on the cot, shoes off.
I started wondering if maybe the security guard had finally decided to begin patrolling our unit. So, I peeked down both hallways of our unit and didn't see anyone. Went back to my desk, sat down. Heard it again.
Ok, I should have called the security guard, but I didn't. My mind was in denial mode. The next possibility I considered was that the elderly patient had fallen out of bed and that the sound was her trash can being knocked over. LOL
So, I decided to go around the corner to check on her. When, I did, I saw that she was still fast asleep. I had to p*** by the nursery on the way back to the desk. It was still locked and all the lights out (remember, no babies). As I p***ed the nursery, I heard a woman crying from inside of it.
I RAN back to the desk, and stayed there until the day shift came in the next morning. THANKFULLY, the noises stopped and no patients asked for anything the rest of that night. I would have been too afraid to leave the desk anyway.
I did tell some of the RNs from the day shift and they said, "Oh yeah, that's probably the ghost of so and so you heard." Apparently, our unit was haunted and no one bothered to tell ME. There were also some reports from patients from time to time of a man in a labcoat coming into their rooms in the middle of the night and placing his hands around their necks as if to choke them!
This is absolutely a true story!!
BadDreamer999 04-13-2004, 12:54 AM I lived with my mother in a three story apartment...we were on the second floor, with an upstairs.
I was complained to by the management of the apartments, that my baby was crying at night, and was disturbing the other tenants.well, my baby had always slept through the night..I had the upstairs loft , which was as big as a small apartment..it had a great walk-in closet, and a private bathroom...all I needed was a stairwell outside my window , to make it a unit all it's own...anyway, I slept there too, and I went to sleep with my son in the room....we got a knock on the door at about 11 pm, I got up, my mom had already answered the door...they kept saying, we hear your child crying, and the neighbors hear him too, please keep it down..I was getting pissed over the matter, since my boy was assuredly asleep....I came back upstairs to retire, and my boy was staring into the closet door, that was opened....he was pointing, and saying "a man"..I asked, "who, baby?"
my son was less than 2 years old...but he saw something in the large walk in closet, and was not afraid, but curious more than anything about some strange occurance that night.
I had to try to resettle, then as I laid down, in the darkness trying to recapture sleep...I heard the sounds of a baby crying....and it did not sound like that of a sound in the same room...I finally heard the sound of a ghost baby, from apartments built in 1962!..I had gone to the office and looked at the blueprints of the apartments, and saw they were built in the 60's
too bad they did not have the fountain and park , they had in the blue-prints....but,I asked my neighbors, right next door...we only lived there a month, and they said they have always heard a baby cry next door, even when vacant...more things happened after the night of hearing it for the first time...but that is another story.....

Molly,
I've experienced some of the same things you're talking about. I know we have a mix of religious beliefs in this site so I'll limit my comments. All I'll say is that years ago, I 'dabbled' a little in the occult thinking it was just silly fun and actually had demons appear to me. It was a scary and ugly situation and I became a Christian because I know that hell exists and I sure don't want to go there!
And Swan, I think your story is sweet. I'm thinking about adopting too. It just costs so much these days.
christina923 04-13-2004, 04:54 PM when it was obvious that my mother was going to die, i began walking miles every day in a cemetary here in town. i asked for comfort/assurance that this was just a transition.
one evening after returning from my walk, i received a vision of a certain field in the cemetary, and i was to focus on a certain tree there. i saw it perfectly in my mind.
the next day, i went to that spot, and in a triangle around that tree were 3 headstones with the given names of myself, my father, my mother. it was the sign i had needed...
the evening when we buried my mother, i could not sleep because of a "smell" in the room. at that point, my voice(yeah, i get a voice in my head telling me stuff at times when i'm not quiet enough to listen) telling me my mother was fine! she's happy and painting again...
it was the smell of oil paints that i always came home to as a child..
i slept in peace for the rest of the night
The house I live in now is haunted but only my son sees "him". But other friends of his who have spent the night have heard him.
Today I came home for lunch and my son was quite distressed. This was the first time it happened in daylight. He was sitting at the computer in his boxers and he heard footsteps coming up the stairs, across the dining room and living room and into the den where he was. He jumped out of his seat and went for the door and was standing with the door open ready to bolt outside in his underwear, the "ghost" hit the door with his fist and went away.
Whenever this ghost is around my older dog goes in the basement, now there is nothing in the basement for my dog, no soft blanket to sit on, but he will go down there for hours and hours and go into a little room in the back of the basement and just stay there. Actually I think he is visiting the ghost. I should check the history of this house and see if someone died here.
My son saw the ghost one night, a young man, standing by his bed. The ghost didn't say anything. Just stood there and dissappeared.
Hey, for those who dont know BTW, Im jannie. I came back on a while back with a new name (ricks last name is Zunck, my middle name Marie) I didnt tell too many people because I dont come on ageless much anymore and have been working a lot, and knew I would not have much time to respond to pms or emails and such, but anyway that is who I am.
I have so many stories, I dont know which ones to tell. I will agree with those before me that one should not play with Ouija boards, I won't even talk about the experience I and my sister had with one when we were teens. I will just tell you it was bad and I don't like to give bad things (satan, evil, whatever) much publicity, so that is all I have to say about that. Like Whiterose, I used to work in a hospital that had a woman ghost that roamed the halls. A lot of people saw her.
BUT these are the 2 long stories I will choose, sorry for the length.
1) My daughter was hospitalized when she was 9 for a severe reaction to Sulfa drugs. She is so allergic to Sulfa that she cannot even use creams for burns that have sulfa in them, she came close to dying. Anyway, I was newly divorced and POOR beyond belief. lol. I had insurance but couldnt afford to miss work, but had too. I remember I only had 2 change of clothes to wear and very little money to eat on while I stayed with my daughter in the hospital. Im saying this to show you my frame of mind, I was worried about finances and worried most of all about my daughter. She was in the hospital a total of about 5-6 days. About the 4th day, late at night, we were on the last room on one hallway on the pediatric ward and across from us was a playroom for the children. Most of the rooms were empty and the nurses station was several feet away from us, I could hear the nurses talking sometimes. Anyway. I was standing over my daughter and I was praying for her, and then I decided I would start getting ready for bed. I went to the bathroom in the room and just as I started to do my business, I heard the door open and in walked a woman, I could tell it was a woman by the click of her heels on the floor....very crisp energetic walk, unlike the sound of the nurses tennis shoes or types of shoes they wore. No one said anything and I said who is there? NO one answered. I had heard her click click walking over towards my daughters area, and I yelled WHO IS THERE!!! I was getting myself ready to come out of the bathroom as quick as I could when I heard her by the door again, and she said "DONT WORRY, SHE WILL BE FINE. EVERYTHING WILL BE OKAY" and the door opened and closed. I immediately came out of the bathroom and opened the door, No one was there, not down the hallway or anywhere. I saw nurses at the station and so I ran down there and asked who had come in my room, none of them had and they hadn't seen anyone...BTW they had a clear view of our room, the front desk faced our room. I went back to my daughter and she was lying there awake, and I said Jessica, who came in here while I was in the bathroom (forgot to tell you she had been watching t.v.) and she said no one mom. I said you didnt hear that woman come in and walk over to you and talk to me? She said no mom, what are you talking about? I knew then it was an answer to my prayer...and that Jessica would be fine.
Okay now this story sounds crazy. Everyone I have shared it with laughs, you have to it is so bizarre, but Im telling you that it has bugged my familiy for years.
2) Okay when I was about 5-6 years old, my parents lived in a 2-bedroom house with 4 kids at home. One brother and sister had to share a bedroom and my sister Donna (who is 4 years older than me) and myself shared a bedroom with my mom and dad. We slept on what people used to call a roll-away-bed, and my mom and dad slept in seperate beds in the room with us (they were modest, expect on Sunday afternoons when we were locked out of the room lol, but that is another story) Okay, my dad was not a nice person back then, a lot of acting ugly to my mom and sometimes because of his yelling and screaming at her, my sister and I would be afraid, and she would say come get in the bed with me. This one particular week, we had slept with her all week. Her bed was against the wall, my sister slept by the wall, I slept in the middle, my mom on the outside of the bed with her arm over me. Okay here is the weird part. EVERY Day for 7 days I would wake up in the morning crying because I had no underwear on!!! LOL I would go to bed with udnerwear on, wake up with none on... This was very traumatic for me being little and not understanding. The first night it happend my parents thought maybe I had kicked them off, my mom did the regular thing and pulled the sheets and blankets off and couldnt find anything. She thought it odd, but oh well, By the fourth night, my parents were stripping the bed, lifting the mattress, looking everywhere! They got to thinking that maybe I was sleep walking, but that is almost impossible becasue my dad was a very light sleeper, he suffered from health problems and was up a lot during the night and my mom woke up everytime we moved. After 7 days, I woke up one morning and I screamed!!! I HAVE PANTIES ON!!!!!!!!! lol I was elated.
My mom said that through the years my dad and she nearly drove themselves crazy coming up with ideas of where that underwear could be. She said they always looked places when moving things or going up into the attic, and when my mom sold the house after my dad died, she and my sister thouroughly searched every nook and crannie in the house and came up with nothing while they were packing.
CAN SOMEONE HELP ME SOLVE THIS MYSTERY. lol
I have thought of being hypnotized, but Im scared. Maybe I dont want to have a memory of what happened. Ive thought of sinister things like what if someone drugged my parents, and molested me or what if a family member did, but I never had any reason to fear my father or my brother, no abuse of that kind went on in my family. I thought of alien abduction, lol, We never solved the mystery. I few years ago my sister and I visited our old home place. I wanted to ask the people who live there now had they ran into 7 panties anywhere ?? LOL
whiterose 04-13-2004, 09:23 PM Hi Jannie! Loved your story about the underwear. I wonder if you were possibly sleep walking and accidentally throwing them away? Or..... flushing them down the toilet? LOL
RobsGirl 04-13-2004, 10:18 PM Yep, Kel, I know what ya mean!!! AH and others who mentioned their expierences with occultic stuff, it's truly a reality, we're not just imagining things when it comes to things such as this.
I know what ya'll mean about hospitals being spooked - you can't have that many people die in one place and not have odd things go on. I've had some weird things happen in hospitals too.
When I did my clinicals in college, we were assigned to a very old, decrepit mental hospital on the outskirts of the city. At one time it had held the criminally insane and was then upgraded to just your average insane person. <G> As with any clinical setting, they made us do a lot of busy work on top of the hands on stuff and one of the things I got to do, that was acutally a lot of fun, was work in the medical library. (ya know me, Ms. Bookworm)
Before I go on, let me paint you a picture. . .this building was old, circa 1896. It was H shaped with the original building in the middle and the newer wings added on each end over the course of the next century. The library was on the second floor of the old building, in the middle. The storage areas for the library were under the hospital, located in two subbasements beneath the main building and the west wing. One took the elveator down to the first subbasement and then walked west to the stairs where they walked down two flights to the other subbasement which was a short hall beneath the larger hall and a long west hall that housed what was once the morgue area. The short hall held cells that had once been solitary areas - padded rooms with barred windows.
The upper hall held what had once been what we referred to as "torture" rooms. ECT, water and sheet wrap areas, places where they inflicted some really horrible stuff on poor mentally ill people. This area was well lit while the far end hall still had its original lighting fixtures from the 50s, making it kind of shadowy and dim. The library storage area was in the old morgue storage area.
One Friday afternoon I took several boxes of files down to the storage area. I'd been down there before and never felt spooked. It was quiet, but you could hear the furnaces humming (the boiler room was on the east end of the long upper hall) and occasional you'd run into a maintenance guy down there. There were also cameras, so you weren't exactly "alone". People could see you, except on the far west hall. They'd never put cameras there.
So, I take these boxes down and put them away. As I do so, I notice that one of the old morgue "drawers" has been left unlatched. The librarian stored holiday stuff for spiffying up the med library in these dumb things, he figured they had to serve some sort of purpose since they sat there with nothing better to do. I relatched the door and headed out. As I reached the door, I heard the door unlatch. I turned around and, sure enough, the door was unlatched. That particular drawer held Christmas decorations and little else. I went over, pushed the door in, made sure it was latched and walked out.
About this time, I have no idea what possessed me, but I'd never really investigated the hall and my curiosity got the better of me. I wandered on down the hall to peer into what had once been the morgue, which now housed just stuff, and what was once a lab, which was still pretty much the way it used to be, just really dusty. At the far end of the hall, were a couple of extra rooms that had shackles chained to the wall, didn't want to consider what those had been for, so I turned around and was walking back when the lights flickered. I ignored it, that end of the building was majorly old, the walls were still stone in certain places. I was almost to the library storage room when I heard whistling.
Okay, this is how naive I was. It never occurred to me that there might not be somebody in the subbasement above. I figured it was a maintenance guy. But, when I glanced into the storage room, I noticed that the door again stood open and now the tray was pulled all the way out. NOW, I got creeped, especially since i realized that the whistling was coming from BEHIND me. I raced my rearend up over the stairs and towards the elevators. I pressed the elevator button, nothing happened. No grinding gears, nothing. Then the lights on THAT hall flickered and the whistling started to come up over the stairs. There was then this ungodly banging coming from down the stairs. I was still creeped, but not freaked, as I probably should have been. I hit the button again and waited impatiently as the whistling got louder, it wasn't a tune, just a sound.
The banging from down below got louder and the elevator arrived. I stepped into the elevator and the doors closed. NOW, I began to get slightly freaked. That had been way too weird. I get to my floor, boogie on in to the library and told the librarian what I'd heard. He'd nodded, telling me that happened a lot down there, they pretty much just ignored it. About that time, the elevator, which was directly across from the library, opened and there was nobody in it. The librarian and I just looked at each other as the doors closed. Then, down the hallway, whistling started up and the doors to the west ward opened and closed.
I never looked at that place the same way after that.
Story #2 Happened in another hospital a long time later, after my third child was seriously burned. He was in the peds unit, I was pregnant with number 4 and not feeling well at all. He was about 16 mos old and in one of those large metal cribs. Even though his leg was heavily wrapped, he still slept well, no doubt because of the demerol. We were in the room next to the nurses station, right before the OB ward. The rest of the rooms were on the other end of the hall, along with a big play room. There were only one or two other children on the unit and several sets of parents. It was fairly quiet. Our last night in the hospital, something kept waking me up. I thought it was just because I was so nauseous but then it dawned on me that I had this eerie feeling of being watched.
There was a light on in the room, as most hospital rooms have those adjustable lights and one can make a nightlight out of the light so I knew Dewey was still asleep. I got out of bed thinking that maybe somebody was peering around the ajar door when I wasn't looking. The hall was empty save for another mother who looked as confused as I was. I asked her if she had the same feelings I had. She said yes and we proceeded, in our jammies, to course the hall. The nurses were in conference in the station, so we knew it wasn't them. I decided that at that point it might be a good time to start praying. SO, we're looking around and I'm silently praying and we reached the play room. Right by the door there's this little playskool table and chairs. There, sitting at the table was this little girl, she might have been maybe four, five? She had long brown hair and big, I mean HUGE, blue eyes, sort of, her pupils almost obstructed the iris.
The lady says "Are you lost honey? Did you leave your room?"
The little kid just sat there. We looked at each other, wondering if she was deaf. THEN, the eyes shifted and she looked at us. It was creepy. I'm talking SERIOUSLY creepy. The lady said, "Do the nurses know you're in here?" The kid shook her head. I said, I'll go get one of the nurses. I left the room and about a half minute later, she other mother comes bustling after me, white as a sheet. She's trying to keep her voice down, but she's obviously freaked going "She's not there! SHe's not there!" I'm like, HUH? She was just in the room, where'd she go?
The woman had followed me to the door when I'd left for the nurse's station and when she'd turned back, the kid was gone. She's checked the entire room, there was no way the child could have gotten out. Well, the mother was freaked, the nurses tried to calm her down, telling her that she wasn't the first time to see "Elizabeth", a little girl who'd died on the ward. She hung around the play room and liked to wander in and out of the rooms. More than one parent had awoken in their child's room at night to see this little girl standing beside their bed, those huge eyes staring at them through the dim light. I was glad to go home in the morning!
Whiterose, yes I did think of sleepwalking and maybe flushing the panties down the toilet, but you got to understand that my parents lived in about a 750-900 sq. foot home, with one bathroom in the middle and a short, short hallway and everytime anyone flushed, it woke everyone up. lol, and there were 5 other people in the house besides me, so someone would have heard. You know how you when you sleep with your kids when they are little, you never really sleep, they move, you are awake, that was how my mom was. And even if I did get by with sleepwalking and flushing, wouldnt that have eventually stopped up the toilet, we lived in the country on our own septic tank thing, and you have to be careful of that all the time. Underwear would have not flushed correctly. Anyway baffles me.
OKAY ANOTHER STORY:
Molly's story reminded me of a library I worked in. My freshman year in college, I attended Texas Womens Univ. in Denton Texas. The whole place was creepy, we had a lot of rapes there, had a peeping tom once in my window, just weird stuff all the time. I worked in the library and never saw anything but was constantly getting spooked. There was a section of the library in the basement where they kept archives, and rare books. We were told by the head librarian when we first started working there to not go down their alone, there was something there, they didn't know what, but they kept it locked, and if we worked the night shift, if we did not feel comfortable going down there to put books back on the shelf, just leave them out and the day people would go together to do it. EWWWW. That still spooks me, cause once for some reason we HAD to get something for a student from there, so I held the door while a more experienced student who knew exactly where the item was went in. She ran in and got it. The place made you feel dread, I cant explain it. It was gloomy even when the lights were all on.
Also in the dorm where I lived, it was in a 4-story building. Old, old building....we lived at the end of the hall. Across the hall from us was a girl that didn't stay in her room a lot, and then farther up the hall was more "apartments" My roommate was my best friend from high school. The apartment next to us contained two girls from Conneticut. The heads of our beds leaned against the wall of their room, and at night we could hear all kinds of noise in there, like boxes being thrown, loud banging, all kinds of noise....these girls had a reputation for being bad partiers, so we just chalked it up to being up all night or something and in order for us to sleep, we had to play some music at night to overcome the noise so we could fall asleep. One night it got really loud and obnoxious, so we decided to talk to them about it right then and there. We got up, it was probably 1 a.m. or so, and knocked on their door, the noise stopped, but no one came to the door. We called them by name and they never said anything. That kind of spooked us cause we had had a peeping tom like I said before and an actual break in by an exhibitionist, so we thought what if someone had broken in their window or something (we were on ground level) and so we ran and got the head resident lady. She called security and security, us and a bunch of other girls and the head lady go to the room. When we got to the room, it was chaos inside, sounded like people were fighting, no voices, just slamming against the walls, in the closet you could hear hangers being whipped back and forth and banging against each other (this was wire hangers, before plastic) and the instant the door was opened, it was silence, pure silence, nothing out of place, NOTHING. We all just stood there shocked. The head resident said oh my gosh, lets get out of here! lol we all ran to our rooms. The police checked it over and the next day the head resident said all they could come up with was the room had a spook in it. (BTW) the girls we found out had been gone for 2 days on a visit home or something, and when they came back we told them all about it, they were so scared they said, but funny thing, they never asked to be transferred out of the room to my knowlege? I would have refused to sleep there again. We never heard the noise again. OKAY but this is the really spooky part.....a few days after that happened, Helen, my roommate and I were shopping in town. We were going down the sidewalk and while Helen was talking to me, I looked ahead (this is broad daylight) and I saw the biggest man I have ever seen, he looked 8 feet tall, he was all in black, and the only way I can describe it is he looked like a dead man, black circles under his eyes, hellish look in his eyes and on his face, he was glaring straight at me, no wavering, just straight at me, he walked by us and he was so big, we had to move over some to let him by. As soon as he passed, I turned my head and he was not there!!!!!!!!!. I said OH MY GOSH helen that man! She said what man? I said what do you mean what man, you couldn't miss him, we had to get over for him to pass. She said I never saw anyone. She thought I was looney. I think to this day I saw the spook from that room!

And like I said, I dont like to give evil much spotlight, so I will tell something good now. When I was still married, and my ex was cheating, one time he had been gone for 2 days and we did not know where he was or whether he was dead or alive. My son, then 2 was crying for his dad constantly and I was at my wits end. It was dark in the house and I was rocking my son trying to calm him. The girls were sleeping. I was just sitting in the darkness, rocking and crying and praying, when I felt the most wonderful presence all around me, love, assurance, peace flowed through me and I knew it was Jesus. I felt the brush of a robe beside my arm and I was not afraid. There was no fear anywhere, just peace and calm. I looked, lol and saw no one but I felt their body and robe as sure as if a real person was standing there. I just decided to bask in that experience and it lasted probably 20 minutes or more and then slowly left. My son was calm, and we went to bed. I have tons of stories like that....that is how I know that there is a God.
SnowPrincess 04-14-2004, 04:06 PM This is a great thread I love reading it.
I moved last february to this new house.
My old house was in the middle of the woods on a hill.
A few things happened, my son 12 at the time, saw a woman in a red velvet dress in the half basement area. At first he thought it was me and than she disappeared.
Once I "thought" one of my children was teasing me and going in one door and hiding, than going out the other, (my bedroom had 2 doors) but after being silly and chasing "it" a bit, I realized the kids were all at school.
My old house was located near Indian burial grounds and an old *****house and distillery from the prohabition days.
2 of the neighbors reported seeing a UFO hovering over the microwave tower in the early 1980's, I beleive them, their stories were identical even though they NEVER told each other, when we moved in they told us throughout the years, each during a differant time, they found out that they were not nuts when we told them what the other had said, they both saw the same thing. One guy was 58 the other 39.
Thats all I got :)
hello my dear friend!!!!!!
how are you? Im ok doing it so nice
and lookin for a new ym

SaltwaterBlues 04-14-2004, 05:03 PM As Ouiji Boards were mentioned.
A friend destroyed one once, on purpose.
He did it by burning it.
He said he could hear it scream as it burned.
He said he was greatly satisfied.
my sister has a story about a ouija board, BTW, my mom took ours and burned it after my sister's and my experience with it that you cant get me to talk about till this day.
The same sister as above and her family were in Florida right before the Gulf War a few years back. Her husband was going to be shipped out, it was Christmas time and they decided since their kids were both teens to just go to Florida where he would be leaving from and vacation and for Christmas presents, they would just go to the store on Christmas Eve and each buy the presents they wanted. She was walking down the game aisle of the store with her then 12-13 yo daughter and all of a sudden a ouija board flew off the shelf almost hitting them. lol Donna, my sister, said it didnt fall, it flew out in front of them. She thought someone had pushed it from the other side and so they looked around the corner and there was no one there. Plus there were other items on the other side that were in place. They replaced the board and in front of their eyes, it flew out again! She said then that another flew out and another and they started running, lol .
Believe me the biggest skeptic I have ever met about the paranormal was my mother, but after our ouija board experience, she never doubted again and she never talked about it again either.
whiterose 04-17-2004, 10:29 AM Ok. Here's another mystery in my life....
One night, while working on the postpartum unit at the hospital, I received report from the RN on the evening shift that a patient who delivered her baby in the afternoon was possibly not emptying her bladder. The RN said that this patient's fundus (top of the womb) was still really high into her pelvis. This can sometimes be a sign of a woman either not emptying her bladder or retaining blood within the womb (sorry for the graphic description). Neither of these situations are unusual after giving birth.
At about 11:30 pm, I went to check on her. She was a very small woman and her abdomen was still quite rounded and firm. Like the RN on the previous shift, my first assumption also was that she was not emptying her bladder. So, I asked her to go to the bathroom with the intention of catheterizing her (draining her bladder with a tube) upon her return to bed.
I went into the nursing station to get the supplies needed and found that I was "drawn" to the cabinet where the fetal doppler was held. This is a device that is used to listen to the heartbeat of the fetus inside the mother's womb. I remember thinking "why am I going to this cabinet? what would I need this for?" But, it was as if someone was controlling my actions and telling me deep inside "you will need this".
I went back to the patient's room and told her that I wanted to listen to her belly with the doppler. She asked me "why". I said, "I don't know." I truly did not consciously know why I needed to do that, but I just knew from deep within my core that I DID NEED TO LISTEN.
I listened, and apparently my eyes got HUGE, because the patient looked alarmed. I heard a fetal heart beat. I compared it against the mother's and it was different, confirming that she was still in fact pregnant!
This was in the days before ultrasounds became routine. So, having an unexpected twin was not unexpected. However, it was usually discovered right away. In her case, it was not discovered until at least 9-10 hours after delivery and she ended up having her second baby about 12 hours after the first one, on another day.
To me, the voice inside of me came from God or an angel telling me to do this. This patient needed to be transported back to labor and delivery where she could be monitored. Since my conscious thinking was never considering the possibility of her still being pregnant, if that voice inside me hadn't pushed me to go pick up that doppler, she would likely have eventually delivered in that bed without proper attention.
I will never forget the feeling of not understanding consciously why I was doing something and that feeling that someone was driving me forward.
whiterose 04-17-2004, 10:48 AM All I can say Raven is that there was a distinct difference that night in what has happened with any other patient I have cared for. I am very much a thinker and always thinking through all sorts of possibilities. That night, someone else was in control because the possibility of her still being pregnant never entered my conscious mind. I needed a little help and someone gave it to me. :)
Here is another mystery:
Before my dad died, he had one leg amputated and was in a wheelchair......after his death, my mom and sister were in our living room facing one another in seperate chairs talking. My brother-in-law was outside playing with his 2 kids. My sister said that she and my mom were engrossed in a conversation and someone went between them into the hallway, (she said they kind of rolled by) she said they actually leaned around this person so that they could see one another. She said to me, have you ever been engrossed in something you were doing or talking about and someone walk by and you knew they did, but you werent aware consciously of who it was or that it happened until later....that was what it was like. She said after that, just a minute or two later, she said, Mom, did Roy (her husband) come in, I saw him go by or someone did....and so they went down the hall to see and no one was there. They thought it odd, so they looked outside and there was Roy and the kids. They asked him if he had come in or the kids and they said NO, we have been outside all this time.
She said it was then that they put together what they had each experienced. My mom said that in her mind she was thinking it was my dad and then thought to herself, no he is dead, it must have been Roy, just a passing thought when she leaned around the figure to talk to my sister.
Anyway, he died in 1987, and my mom sold the house. Last year, my sister and I visited the old homeplace and the people that live there now let us walk around the place and remember our childhood. Before we left, I had to ask, I said do yall see anything around here, like Ghost? (cause we had things happen there all the time as children and adults) and she said well to tell you the truth, my daughter says she has seen an elderly gentleman in the hallways sometimes !
Also, some of the things we saw and heard while living there were chairs moving, walking in the attic, even the dog would run from that one....bowls falling and spoons clicking together, lights going on and off, etc. Things became so every day we just started ignoring it after a while. Anyway, before my mom sold the house, she rented it to a couple with 2 children. The kids rode the schoolbus with my kids, and my kids would tell me that those children said the place was haunted, the things they described hearing and seeing were the same things we had experienced, but we had never told them about it. One night in the middle of the night, that family packed up and left. My mom didnt understand what happened, no warning, they just left in a hurry, even left things behind like clothes and stuff. She finally heard from them saying that the place was haunted, they had shot at something and there was something there that could not explain and they were terrified to live there anymore, so they sent her the rest of the rent money and never came back.
The new people said nothing ever happens to them, just the daugther sees the elderly gentleman sometimes.
