A small but very intense hurricane has moved ashore in New England. Officially named “Hurricane Maria”, this storm is said to pack quite a wallop. The National Weather Service has issued a statement warning all residents of the northeastern United States against being caught between Hurricane Maria and her destination, one “Mighty Red” located somewhere in the state of New Hampshire. It is believed that once Hurricane Maria connects with Mighty Red, the result will be an intense romantic storm lasting several hours, followed by beautiful clearing skies, warm temperatures, and complete calm.

GOOD LUCK MARIA AND JASON, AND HERE'S HOPING THAT YOU TWO HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME TOGETHER!

Oh, Maria is so nice and so wonderful and so smart and...

okay this is Maria here :p... I just don't have time to log out and log in as myself, cause we are going to do some grocery shopping, but I had to tell you all, you are so nice and so supportive, that you really deserve a gift...

We'll take some pictures tonight and post them , so that I can be banned and have all the free time to just flirt and....;) oh well, nahh, I love my friends too much, so I'll just post the nice ones!

Jason is taking good care of me and I love this city! I haven't seen much but I can tell you that the hamburger we had last evening was so so so good, the bacon tasted like real bacon (in Luxembourg it's not really the case) and the meat was also very good! Everything started very wll (food IS important after all) and I'm loving every minute.

And of course, the fact that this gorgeous man was there in the morning at my side to say Hey baby, good morning, and his cute "do you know I love you?" is just what I dreamed of... I am so happy you can't imagine!

I'll dry my hair now and see a walmart for the first time in my life (they do have one in Sao Paulo but I have never been there) and I'll tell Walmart fan Trish later about my experience!

Love to you all,
Maria:)

Good morning!

It's my second morning in US soil as Kerri said and I am in love. Yesterday before going to Walmart (next will be the BJ Nessa!), we went to have some nice breakfast and I couldn't believe my eyes. The coffee place looked exactly like in the movies! The waitress would go around with the the coffee jar (?) and offer people more coffee (they don't do this anywhere else I have been in this planet) and the counter was oval so that she could reach every one of us. The food hmmmmmm I could triple my size if I stay here longer, everything was so good, and again bacon tasted so nice (I love bacon now), I was in love...

Then the Walmart. I bet how much our shopping car had in it and I was wrong for 4 dollars only while Jason was 54 dollars away ... so I just got a slave for a whole day and that will be sunday, when we have our Savannah's homework to do. Couldn't have been better, the bet timing...

We went to pay and we had lots of beer and some wine, and the lady asked me are you older than 21? Jason and I looked at each other, I thought I hadn't understood the question (well most of all I didn't believed it! ) and she said it again and we started laughing and I said, well I'm 43... she couldn't believe it! I almost kissed her with my tongue :p offered to pay her a coffee, wow, if she had said 37 it would already have made my day, but 21? Wooo Hooooooooo

Jason is at work now and tonight we are spending the evening here. One of his sisters came by yesterday and her 4 year son had been announcing that Maria was his best girlfriend without knowing me, now that he has met me and has learned from me how to operate Jason's funny dancing skull, I think I have made a big fan! Tonight we are meeting another part of the family and sunday morning is family breakfast, I'll finally meet his mom. She seems to be a great woman who is going younger every year and it will be a very special moment for me to meet her.

I am happy and your country is just wonderful! Love to you all,

Maria

I don't think he's a Nascar fan but he showed me a place here where they have Nascar races, on our way to Walmart. I like Formula 1!

Btw, Walmart... I couldn't see everything! Men get tired quickly, after only 90 minutes there he wanted to go home!! He was sweet enough to ask if I wanted to stay but you know, I don't want to push my luck too far, hehe...

So, I got the formal promise that one day he'll drop me there and come back in four hours to see if I'm finished...that sounds fair enough.

We had an incredible evening yesterday. We decided to make pasta and Jason has the strangest way of preparing it, just listening to it made me grin so I thought ok, I'll prepare it. You see he puts water in the pan together with the pasta and not when the water is boiling!! So I had those two small pans to boil water and put the spaguetti, too long for those pans, without breaking it. Result: the spaquetti would cook just a half and no way to break the part sticking outside... I had to use a big spoon to try to put all inside and forgot to keep an eye on the frying garlic, and it all burnt.... then the fire alarm went off and the upstairs neighbour ran to our door asking "is everything alright there?" Jason's sister was coming over and I almost started to cry, but looking at how Jason was so calm made me laugh... the disaster was so immense that it looked as if some comediant had written it...

And if you liked WalMart, we've got Target, Marshall Fields, Neiman Marcus, KMart, Pamida, and Pier One!! Oh heck, just tell him to take you to the mall!!

Molly, can you come to Boston with us on the 24th? John 311 and Onetiger are coming! Trish might not make it, Tru is probably coming and Goldiecat, ah I am trying to convince her to find time :D

I forgot to tell you. I find it great how people are so friendly! At the coffee shop the waitress was very very sweet and I noticed that the lady next to me (who had told me my food looked delicious, out of the blue!) started a conversation with the gentleman next to her, and they were kind of introducing themselves to each other and I thought wow this is like Brazil, people just start chatting to the person next to them, which is not common in that part of Europe where I live.

I used to make fun of Jason when he said "we're all set" when the waiter would come to asks us if we had decided in London and now, here, the waiters asks us if we are all set LOL We are really children of our society...

Target huh... and maple sugar candy... all those types of ice cream...that french toast I couldn't find place to eat at the coffee shop.... bikini.... oh life is so full of decisions! For a Libra this is pure torture... but Jason told me he'll drag me to work out with him (he has everything here!) and I guess I will be able to eat all those things and still be in shape... pray for me! ;)

Also have I mentioned that the custom around NH is to kiss a million times a day? And people told me they would be cold!!!!

Oh Maria I would LOVE to come to Boston - but I'm way far away. I'm over in North Dakota. I'm 1600 miles away! But I grew up in Maine, so I'm really familiar with New England, you're in a marvelous place and Jason is going to be THE greatest tour guide, I'm sure!

Boston is a great city, you're going to have marvelous time!! (Although, people there DO drive like lunatics. . .) Take lots of pictures so we can see all of you together!

And Kerry is right - I forgot all about Costco. . .and, oh, Sam's Club is pretty cool too. Lighthouse Depot is pretty awesome, if you're close enough to the state line to take a trip up into Portland. Um, Pottery Barn, Venture, Best Buy, Masons, Kohls, Helbergers, Barneys, Filenes, Saks, Bloomingdales, Macys, Penneys, Sears, there are TONS of stores you can drag Jason to!!

Yes, Americans can be pretty friendly. New Englanders, the farther north you go, can be a tad cool, but, for the most part, they're a friendly bunch.

Are ya SURE you want to move back to Brazil?? We could sure use really NICE doctors here. . .and I'm SURE Jason would just LOVE having his own personal physcian on-call 24/7!!! <G>

Everything sounds so awesome for you two! Maria, glad that you are getting to see the fun side of life here in the US. New England is an interesting area - you might not find quite as many friendly people in Boston, except those of us who are meeting you there. I'm so excited to see you in about one week! Fun, fun! We'll definitely have to do the bars around Quincy Market (perfect touristy thing to do). You'll have a blast seeing some of the history side-by-side with shopping!

Welcome to the U.S.A. I'm so happy for you two that you are together again! I know how it feels to want to be together again after that first visit. I am already wishing I could return to Romania. This visa thing seems like it's going to take ages and I can't wait!

I wish I could be with you all on the 24th, but it's just too far for me. Besides, that's my birthday and my son will be in town that day.

I recommend that you consider the advice that Liane gave me. Keep a journal of this sweet time in your life. It was wonderful advice for me (thanks Liane!) and I have read my journal over and over since my return.

Thank you, Marcy!

It's all so smooth and sweet that Jason had to add his own spice to our days and two days in a row I saw Kill Bill 1 and another bloody Tarantino movie with vampires... not to mention that his house has three skulls (real? keep an eye on my posts if one day they sound strange, I might have become a skull in his collection  ) weird little heavy metal dolls, seven guitars but practically no tools to cook...I have to be really inventive!

Today is the band practice's day and I'll be 4 hours with ear plugs and a book... and then we'll of course go see Kill Bill 2!

I tell you, I love this guy, between his Stephen King's style stories (Jason is a writer and that's what he studies at college) and his creepy movies, he can be really romantic. The adrenalin from one and the endorphine from the other is a strong coc ktail that can blow your mind... and this is just wonderful!

Maria

Ah, utensils, Lynn! To think I was looking for that word and it's just like in Portuguese LOL (utensilios)! Yes, I am making a list, I don't want to change his place too much, but yesterday I had a hard time preparing food here...

And I can only recognize Alice Cooper among those hundreds of dolls, but I am not a big fan of Kiss so I'll ask him if he has it! He also has flags, the Scottish is right over his couch! You see, this man is partly Scottish, we understand why he's so handsome, don't we... ;)

Lynn do you know they have movie theaters here where you can watch a movie while you eat, in a nice comfortable chair (I have never been yet, will see tonight, I am just imagining from what he told me)? Doesn't that sound great? I only have to find a way to eat while watching Kill Bill 2 arghhhh

I know what you mean about the movies, Maria. While in Bucharest, Remi and I went to see 4 movies. Each time we would discuss our choices of movies and would agree together on what we would see. There weren't alot of movies I'd like to see at that time, other than Lord of the Rings, Return of the King. So, we did see that, but the other movies were really ones that Remi wanted to see: The Last Samurai, Torque and Scary Movie 3.

At home, I may have chosen to see The Last Samurai, but the other two are not exactly on my top ten list of movies I want to see. However, I understand that being in an age gap relationship, I am going to have to compromise and try new things. I found that I actually enjoyed Scary Movie 3. Torque was OKAYYYYY, but I did enjoy some of the racing. But, I suppose, that maybe it's not really the differences in our ages that drives our choices in movies, but the fact that we are of opposite sexes, right?

It'll be interesting to see how he will react when Hannah and I want to plug in Sense and Sensibility one day at home (an ultimate chick flick). :)

EDIT: Oh, I wanted to say that the movie theatre in Bucharest was just like one we have here at home. And, the best part for me was that all the movies were shown in the original language they were filmed in, but had Romanian subtitles. Remi said that's one thing that helped him learn English so well.

Welcome, Maria! I am so glad that you are here and that you have a wonderful host for your first visit to our country. I wish that you could come to California, too.

Alas, there is no Walmart near my house. I went to one for the first time when I was in Florida last year. What fun! I was able to stock up on some personal items that were on sale at a great price.

Now, Maria, you must try Dreyer's Dreamery Black Raspberry Avalanche ice cream and Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia ice cream while you are here. You can probably get them at Walmart.

Yes, Jason has a few different sets of KISS dolls, he even has the ones from the '70's that are worth lots of money! I have to say, I really love his decorative taste, with the skulls and gargoyles and black lights...I feel very much at home here.

His band practice yesterday was wonderful! During four hours, I completely forgot I even brought a book. Jason is just so sexy when he plays guitar and sings. :)

I feel so lucky that I have found this man! He is everything I have ever wanted, and so much more! And his ego is so small, too. ;)

And btw, that little pest posted as me when I was sleeping (I know it's only 2 pm but you should go through the ordeal I'm going through to understand why I'm so tired)... well I do agree with everything he posted except for the ego part... he's just a Leo after all... :D

Maria
04-19-2004, 05:25 AM
Sally, I miss you, too! You have been too quiet, what have you been planning? :p And Trish, how are your plans for saturday?

Dorte, you must be Jason's sister, he also has those gargoyles and dragons everywhere. If only we could go visit you, too! His house is really different from any house I'd ever been, and I am often wondering how such a "heavy metal" guy, with all those skulls and scary things around can be so sweet and loving as he is! His only problem is he refuses to watch Oprah with me... :( he said, please don't make me watch Oprah! But the subject was so interesting, silly Jason!

Yesterday I met his little sister and her boyfriend for breakfast. She taught me which cakes I should eat (I love her even more now! I ate something called whoopy "something") and we had fun the four of us. Jason's mom had to work in the morning (she goes to school and works and is very busy) and could't join us but it will be her birthday soon and we'll celebrate it.

Tonight is Jason's dad's birthday and we are having Italian. But I have to tell you about the movies!!! We were so tired Saturday night that we decided to leave it for Sunday... so yesterday we went to see Kill Bill 2 (great movie) and wow wow wow! Those wonderful soft reclining chairs together with the food, and nobody disturbing my vision and Jason close to me, holding hands, it was like ...hmmm ... like Paradise! I loved it!

I haven't solved my telephone problem yet (I can't go downtown on my own without a map yet) and I only have his mobile. As soon as I get to a phone shop I'll do my phone calls.

During his band practice I again realised this man has many talents. He writes so well that sometimes I can't sleep after reading his scary stories. What an imagination! And when he plays, you know you are in front of a great musician, a gifted one. Not to mention he holds his guitar in the sexiest way possible...

I am finally getting over jet lag and love is just so great!

It's so cool, Maria, to receive these updates from you. It's like getting postcards from your trip. Thanks for keeping us updated and I'm so happy you are having a wonderful time and that you are proving to everyone something that Remi once said to me is true. He once told me that distance is relative and is something that can be overcome. He was absolutely right. Love knows no boundaries. Love knows no distance.

Maria
04-19-2004, 06:58 AM
It's funny that you mention the postcards, WR. I haven't had time to buy them so far (Jason is still having classes to attend after work this week) but maybe this is my way to keep you all posted of how I am doing.

Jody told me it was funny to imagine me in a house full of skulls and no cooking utensils, well the utensils problem was solved at walmart :D and the skulls remind of my mom's bad reaction to find out I kept femurs in my room and a kidney in our refrigerator when I started medical school. I guess we all get used to these things LOL

I was very surprised at the tips here, wow, you tip a lot, I thought when Jason gave 4 dollars to our first waiter, but then I found out your prices don't include the service tax as we have in Brazil, Europe and Japan (where you tip only if you can, and normally less than one euro or one real in Brazil and not at all in Japan - please don't bring those bad habits there, they say!). I now understand that I have to calculate between 15 and 20% of the total and tip the waiters. Very fair! And Jason told me he thought we were very tight in Europe when I would only leave one euro - but that was after I had already paid the 15/19% that is required by law over there!

As I was telling my fellow mods Jody and Stan, I am living in very hard ;) conditions here. You won't believe it. I don't have a vacuum cleaner, a food processor nor an iron. Of all things, an iron, poor me who loves to iron!

I have to use a broom to clean around and chop my vegetables by hand! Talk about preparing mashed potatoes with just a fork as an utensil...

But...I have lots of love and hugs and kisses all the time, not to mention whoopie pies (that's just to provoke Jody)!

It's worth living with wrinkled skirts after all! :D

Not to take away from Maria's utinsel mania <G> but Jo, whoopie pies are to die for!! Think homemade oreo - it's two chocolate cookies with a special vanilla frosting in the middle. They're REALLY good if they're made with peanut butter frosting too. They usually range in size - from about the size of a normal cookie to the size of a person's hand. They're a dieters nightmare but, boy, are they GOOD.....

Well, cherie, now you are able to see what life has been like for women in the USA. Brave pioneer women built this country while traveling into unknown lands and living in covered wagons without potato mashers or irons. Soon, you will share this rich heritage.

Did you know that there is a dance from this country called The Mashed Potato?

If we get any more appliances in here, it will start to look like a bridal shower. :)

From Savannah, the Heavy Metal Gal (who has her occasional sweet and loving moments)

PS Forget the housework and get on with the homework!! :D

It is a basic potato masher, Maria. Jason is going to have to get a new house to hold all your Ageless household gifts!

That's the fancy cordless model up there.

But, yes, iron is a heavy metal. Iron Maiden -- that's what we call a woman who loves to do ironing....... :D

Hey Abby!!! I had two terrible days here feeling a bit sick, but my sweetie did everything he could to make me feel better and now the day to meet Onetiger arrived and I am feeling fresh and happy!

We have done lots of things together. Yesterday evening we saw a play by a local troop and his sister was playing the flute with them. She's just 18 and a very cute girl, not to mention that she works for a famous lingerie brand and I am going to get nice discounts ;)

Then, love is growing. He tells me he's so lucky, and I tell him I am luckier because I got him, which proves that being a catholic pays off... got a better deal than he did! He is really someone I will cherish forever, we may have different tastes, but we have dreamt of the same things all of our lives, and these objectives in common is what makes what we have so solid in so little time. And it's still growing, we have to nurture it everyday...

And bacon is also getting better and better, now I eat it everyday almost, I find dishes where I can use it and guess what... I didn't gain a pound, I wonder where all that energy is going...

First Hospital Experience: I just had a bit too much of wine and next day, started a cystitis and finally yesterday decided to go to the doctor, because I didn't want to take those old kinds of antibiotics you find without prescriptions. I told him about this new antibiotic treatment that lasts only three days, which name I don't know in the US and I have just started my treatment, hopefully I'll be okay tomorrow.

First of all, I hardly noticed any difference except that the doctor never examined me... not even a little physical exam to see if I might have a higher infection, something going on on my kidneys, maybe he just trusted the fact that as I am a physician I would have made the diagnosis myself, but that's a bit strange. Everyone was very friendly and they took their time to explain things to me. I also noticed that they worry a lot about the expenses, since I don't have any insurance here, but were very surprised to know that Luxembourg health system, as well as other countrie's in the European Union, cover my treatment anywhere in the world, including all the drugs that are prescribed to me.

I am going back tomorrow to see if everything is okay, but it's just routine, I am kind of happy I got a bit sick so that I could live that experience too!

As for the rest, I met Jason's mom. She's a beautiful woman, 48, blonde, wonderful green eyes, a very warm hugging person, I love her! What a difference from that other mother! I guess I would have taken all that for granted had I not had that previous experience, but now I know how much a good mother in law is worth!

How many of us have good mothers in law? :)
