like i told carolyn, i have been on my abby thingy 3 times and i swear, my tummy is flattening. i've lost 3 lbs in these 2 weeks. but i'm eating like a big dog.

Katrina 11-24-2004 09:34 AM

I have to fess up... I am not doing well with my plan to exercise. However, I have been eating much healthier. I have not bought any fast food for the past week, despite the constant nagging about that from my daughter.

I have bought only fresh veggies and cooked every evening. I think that my biggeste problem for the past two weeks is that my daughter and I have been sick twice with colds and once with a stomach bug. I am finally feeling sooo much better.

I still intend to become healthier even if means taking small baby steps.

How's everyone else doing?

Eating better is a good thing! I've not weighed myself this week, and I've been up and down as far as watching what I eat, but so far I'm still steadfast in my exercise. In fact, gonna go do my 2 mile power walk right now, while dinner is cooking. Sooner or later this has got to pay off!

foolforlove 11-25-2004 01:55 AM

I'm still only managing the walk to school instead of both ways but at least it's still something I guess. The weathers just so cold and damp right now which of course set the arthritis off again and it's a viscious circle.

I'm still trying to eat healthy and for the most part succeeding, I find it worse when I only have myself to cook for because I just can't be bothered then, I just grab the quickest thing I can. As for weight loss this week, I've lost another 3 lb making it 5 in total since I started this :)

Keep up the good work everyone, we can all do this :D

Good job ladies...

I am sure Joe will back me up here, but losing 2-3 pounds per week is VERY GOOD, as more than likely it is not just water weight, but the right "stuff" that needs to be lost! I like the analogy of what a pound of hamburger looks like too, to make a comparison, as we often need visuals as reinforcement! Every little bit helps and as as we all know it is much harder and it takes alot longer to lose weight than to gain it. For the life of me, I am still stymied as to why a one pound bag of M's and M's would end up as 5 pounds on my body! GRRRRRR...
ANYWAY, keep it up ....and have a great Thanksgiving....have a small slice of pie as it is moderation, too, that will work as long as one exercises!

Linda

Great job Gen and Kay. You are doing very well. I just need to get more motivated now that I am over the crud.

Linda, I have to admit that I am hungry already this morning just thinking about Thanksgiving Dinner later today. :( I somehow don't think I'll be eating moderately today, but then I won't kick myself for it either.

What drives me crazy is that I eat less than most people I know, but I don't lose weight. So, I KNOW that the thing I need to do is get MOVING.

Thanksgiving, that is all I have to say!!!!!!! I actually did pretty well at Thanksgiving dinner. Usually I would have stuffed myself, but seeing how my parents are Vegan, Tofurkey didn't sound good, so I stayed with Tommy and ate with his family and they just don't make it like mom used to. Anyway, so Thanksgiving dinner wasn't too bad (lunch really), but that night we had totally forgot that nothing would be open, so we went to Walgreens and got a frozen pizza because that was all there was to eat. But it was kinda fun, eating a pizza and watching a movie, knowing that there wasn't anything for me to do because nothing was open, it was peaceful. So as you can tell I didn't do so hot this week, but have gotten right back on the wagon. So hopefully I haven't done too much damage.

Exactly! 2-3 pounds lost in a week, assuming it's the fat, is great! Anything more is just liquid/water. :)

I've lost another 3 lbs this week :D A total of 8lbs since we started this so I'm so happy and seeing the benefits already. My clothes are certainly feeling a little less tight. I have been dieting since June, when I came back home from Oz but wasn't doing too well before, my weight had suddenly stopped coming off, probably because I wasn't eating as I should, skipping meals and then eating the wrong foods. Now I'm coming here and having to admit to everything I'm finding it easier to control my diet if that makes sense. I know I'd be really embarrassed if I had to tell you all I'd put weight on instead :o It's working for me anyway, and it's having the support of everyone here that's making me able to stick to it. Thanks all of you :D

That's wonderful Kay! I forgot to post yesterday that I lost only 1/2 lb, but at least that's something. I was pleased considering how much I ate on Thanksgiving.

How's everyone else doing?

Sorry I haven't posted here lately. I'm still doing my walking religiously, and watching what I eat, but I've only lost one pound since last posting. It's discouraging.. I want it to come off now! LOL

Anyway. I thought I'd post this about in-home walking (which is what I do!) from a website.

Top Ten Reasons to In-Home walk:

1 - You already know how to walk. You might not be able to master Underwater Sumo Wrestling, Advanced Yoga for Invertebrates (or whatever the fitness craze du jour...), but that one-foot-in-front of the other-thing is a no-brainer.

2 - Walking is something we all do, all day, everyday - at any age. In-Home Walking is a total body workout that uses every major muscle group to help you burn calories, lose fat, achieve a firm, well-proportioned look, and boost your energy levels sky high.

3 - You can get rid of the treadmill in the middle of the family room, if you can find it under all the junk. Oh, and how about those oversized rubber bands you were promised would take the bulge away. Pitch it all! You don't need these to lose weight and gain control of your health.

4 - According to the New England Journal of Medicine, walking just 30 minutes a day three times a week reduces death from all causes by 55%!

5 - In-Home Walking requires no fees or fancy equipment. It's really, really cheap. Like your first husband, only without the bad golf ties.

6 - With In-Home Walking you don't need to spend a fortune on those workout outfits. You can walk in your underwear - hey, you can even walk in your birthday suit!

7 - You can reach your fitness goals while watching TV and never have to leave your living room. Is this exercise a dream, or what?

8 - You can go In-Home Walking anytime - 6 in the morning or 6 in the evening, and you dont't have to miss a workout due to snow, sleet, hot or cold. All you need is floor space and a good pair of walking shoes.

9 - In-Home Walking can lower blood sugar and cholesterol levels, improve cardiovascular health and circulation, control weight, relieve symptoms of depression and anxiety, and strengthen muscles and bones.

10 - In-Home Walking works because people stick with it for life. The only way to maintain good health is by exercising consistently.

OK Question-

So, I had a dr. appointment on November 30, and I was shocked, SHOCKED by my weight. I decided it was SERIOUSLY time to make some changes.

Since then, I have started exercising 6 or 7 times per week (for an hour - either walking, doing Pilates or yoga). And I have cut my portions way, way down - almost in half. I have been eating more vegetables too.

I don't have a scale, so I don't know if I have dropped any pounds, but I don't notice a difference in my clothes yet.

Any ideas as to when I might start noticing a difference? :-)

Trying to stay motivated.....

insearch 12-22-2004 10:43 PM

Working out 6 days a week is great!! Make sure you get a day in there to rest up and let your body recoup.

My friend has never been the scale...it is actually my measuring tape.

I have been down 1-2 lbs before, though lost 1-2 inches in my waist.

We all know that muscle weighs more than fat though looks better and is leaner.

Mad.. I am sure you are gaining muscle since you are working out a lot so the scale may not make you happy for a while.

Lose clothes ALWAYS feel grrreeeeat! Congrats... ya just gotta feel better anyway you look at it.

Just remember to eat.....

Very Mysterious...

Somewhere, somehow, I've lost 10 pounds. I don't have a scale at home, but last weekend I visited my Mom and I took the opportunity to step on her bathroom scale. Either it was malfunctioning, or I'm actually 10 lbs lighter!

No idea how that happened... I've been watching what I eat but not overly much (i.e. I still buy a doughnut with my morning coffee) and I've been exercising but it's been sporadic at best.

I have noticed my jeans are looser, though... so it might actually be true. Wouldn't that be a nice Christmas present? :p

Genevieve 12-26-2004 11:29 AM

I've not posted lately.. but, overall since I've started this a few months ago, I've lost 15 lbs. Although, I may have gained a few back in the last two days! LOL.. but, I'm still exercising, and going to get back on track with eating today. I hope everyone is doing well.. it can be discouraging, but with determination it will happen, maybe not as soon as we'd like! But we will get there! Hang in everyone. :)
