Weight Loss Support Group?
This is an idea I've been kicking around for a while. A couple of months ago, some of you attempted to have a weight loss competition here in Health Chat. Unfortunately, it fizzled.
There are alot of us who are getting married in the next few months, or have other reasons that we need to lose weight (like for our health's sake :p ). Not to mention that it's almost time for the holidays and we can all get ahead of the increased weight we are sure to gain from eating all those delectable goodies. How many of you would be interested in forming our own ongoing support group here on ageless? Just some suggestions on how we could use the forum... 1. Have a regular update on how we are doing with our weight loss goals (maybe once a week check in?) 2. Implement a buddy system so that we if we have a weak moment, we can have someone we can talk to more directly or privately than on the forum. 3. Coach each other on tips that we have found helpful in losing weight. 4. Come up with agreements on amount of time we'll spend exercising on a daily or weekly basis and then when we do our "check in" we need to report how often we kept the agreement. 5. Implement some sort of incentive plan? Anyway, just a few ideas to begin with. What other ideas would you have to make this successful? And would you even be interested? If so, any ideas on a name for our support group? |
Count me in!! :D I need all the help I can get!
I am not getting married or anything, but my cousin is, down in VA next June (Im the ONLY ONE LEFT now....the only unmarried cousin, boohoo!). I have a gorgeous blue skirt suit I'd love to be able to wear for the wedding and would love to get a really nice dress for the reception---Ive got the clothes all planned out in my mind but unless I drop some weight I'll need a muumuu instead :p :p How about The Ageless Gutbusters..PhatnSassy...CyberLosers!! Just jokin on the names, but this is a great idea Katrina! |
Sounds like a great idea to me! We can all goal for Amina's figure!!! :D
|
my "ab-lounger" will be here on the 9th, ......count me in !
:D |
Count me in too!
|
Oh what the heck...
I'm notorious for refusing to change my slothful ways (even though I do eat better than I used to), but I do need to drop some flab, so count me in too! :)
|
Oh wow, I am so excited that we already have alot of interest. I think we'll wait a few more days to give others the opportunity to participate.
I've been trying to think of other ideas we can vote on that would make this fun. If we get enough people, we can split into teams and compete? I dunno. Anyone else have other ideas? And what do you think of some of the suggestions I've thrown out so far? |
this is something i've been thinking i needed for a long time. i get an email newsletter from ediets, but they want more than i can afford to actually join.
this sounds like a way cool way to get to know each other better and also helpe each other out with personal goals. your suggestions sound way awesome, especially the buddy system part. think it would be helpful if everyone had a goal in mind that they would like to achieve. |
Sounds like a great idea Whiterose ! I dont have that much of a weight problem, but hopefully we could include a section for toning up the flab and stomach as well as the weight loss. ok, I COULD lose a few pounds as well. hehe
Greeneyed girl....your getting the AbLounger???? Oh I want that SOOOOOOO bad. It's the only thing Ive seen that really makes sense to me and looks like it would honestly DO SOMETHING for that stomach problem I would love to conquer. I never could deal with the sit ups and crunches...seemed to only strenthen or strain my NECK. LOL Please let us know how you like it. I may splurge . :D |

I would love to join in on this. I mean, I am by no means over weight, but I have gained 15 pounds in the last year, and would like to get it off. I might have an engagement party to go to soon, I mean my engagement party (fingers crossed). I need help from someone else who is willing to do this. What a wonderful idea.
Charo~ Just so you know, you don't actually have to do sit ups to get a six pack. The abdominal muscles are the only muscle group that doesn't burn fat, so unfortunately you can do as many sit-ups as you want, but it won't make the fat go away. The only thing that is going to get rid of the fat on your stomach is Cardio and the right diet. But the majority of people have abnominal muscles already, it is just a matter of getting rid of the fat. |

i was working out doing crunches and sit ups two months ago and i saw my tummy getting flatter BUT.....because of all the steroids they gave me those first 2 years of being diagnosed with MS, i have bilateral avascular neucrosis in my hips and knees and being on that hard floor was KILLLIN' me, lol. and that long thing i just said is basically that the joints in my hips and knees are going to crap. neucrosis = dead. so someday i will prolly have to have replacements. sure as shoot can't walk the mall and walking down to my child's school, 1 block, is NOT enjoyable. so this thing will hopefully give my joints a break while getting back to burning fat, increasing my heart rate and working on that problem tummy area. woo hoo ! expect to hear how it's going :D |
Yeah, I could use this too. I can always start eating right and exercising, but I have SUCH a hard time keeping it up after the first week or so.
Count me in! I am an actress, and I just want to feel like my weight isn't a hindrance to the roles I can play. |
Sounds great! I will work this weekend on the idea of how this should work. I am still very open to suggestions. But, hopefully by the end of the weekend, we'll have the program planned well enough to start by next week.
