Shutter Island
I went to see Shutter Island last Friday all by myself... first time ever of going to the movies by myself. I was disappointed with the ending. Don't like it one bit.
I was sorely disappointed to not have a friend with me so I could analyze everything... oh well, I probably would have drove them crazy. So far, nobody else I know has seen it. Anyone else see it?

i LOVE going to movies by myself- i started doing it years ago when I was in a long term very unsatisfying addictive relationship- it was a way for me to be unreachable for a few hours and shut my mind down.
have done it ever since and love it (i only go to matinees however) i saw shutter island this weekend and thought it was good. talk about delusional PTSD (well that was my take on it). had us all fooled, huh!

My sister saw it & liked it ....
Her taste in movies & mine are normally at odds. So I think I'll just pop True Grit in the DVD player and enjoy it one more time. ![]() -G |

WARNING -- SPOILERS -- do not read unless you've seen the movie!
I saw it and liked it! I actually really liked the ending and surprisingly didn't see it coming. I spent about 3 hours yesterday reading through posts on IMDB with people debating whether or not he was insane. My take is that the director purposely made it a bit confusing so you aren't 100% sure at the end, but that if you think about it you come to the conclusion that he was insane. And apparently the book (which I have not read) supports this -- he was most definitely insane and everything about the conspiracies, missing patients, etc. were all his delusions. Anyone else have a different take? Oh, and was anyone else scared/creeped out during the movie?

if you think about it the clues were from the start he was the other patient
on the boat he *lost his cigs* so the *partner* gave him one of his...notice HE never smokes. When they arrive they are asked to hand over their weapons. Notice he has no holder *the partner does. Notice the badge *Marshall* the security guard says Oh thats a new one never heard of a Marshall. So many clues and I had pondered omg is he or is he not. Sad parts but VERY good movie!!!!!!

*********SPOILERS*********
Well I am back here after seeing it a second time... definitely easier to follow after seeing it once. I didn't find it scary at all. But there was a lady sitting next to me and every time there was a loud noise or anything, she would jump and scream and then start rocking her seat. I went with my daughter, who said she liked it, but she though it was too long and drawn out and a bit boring. haha Grumps, I saw all the clues this time around... starting with him puking on the boat and saying it was due to the water. Also, when his partner was trying to get his gun off his pants, he was struggling... not used to wearing a gun. I thought the very end where he was sitting on the porch with "Chuck" and asked if it was better to live as a monster or to die as a good man, that he may have really not been insane. When "Chuck" stood up and called after him, I felt it was Chuck realizing he was NOT insane. However, I did read that it follows the book and that the book has no surprises. SO... there you go.

Did anyone catch the weird thing with the glass, where when that woman asks for a glass of water and she goes to drink it, when it shows it from Leo's angle, she is only miming having a glass but when it shows it from a different angle, it shows her putting down the actual glass?
I didn't catch that, but people on imdb were talking about that. Head-scratcher...
