A sad day...

There.com is closing on March 9th. Dev and I were founding members in There. We both played the Beta. We had lifetime memberships. We met and fell in love in There. Devon was a renowned racer in There and maintained a top spot in game while he was active. Once we moved to real life, There didn't hold the attraction to us it once did. It was a social game, like Second Life, and just not a great place to hang out if you value your relationship/marriage .

However, it was a beautiful world with great content and fun people. I'll miss it. RIP There.com.

Dev and I will logon for the "End of the World" (usually the last evening before a Beta goes live just prior to the big wipe) party in There.

So Marcy & Smiwi are getting married tonight in There. The big wipe is tomorrow at 11:59pm and I want to do it before then. My daughters and I go to belly dancing class on Tuesday nights so tomorrows out .

Here's Marcy's wedding dress and I'm going to carve time out of my day to write some vows. Any thoughts on what they should say?

So true Faith!

Here are my vows so far:

"Smiwi, you are my one and only. I remember meeting you at Kippy’s house all those years ago. You were sitting on her couch in your touk emoting at me. I think I loved you right then. I remember standing around on Moe’s Hand chatting with you. I think it might have been that very day I looked at your profile and it said “I like sex & candy”. Marcy’s Playground. It was destined to be. I remember when we moved in together and even hung a Canadian Flag! I have so many wonderful and sexy memories of us. Our hookup turned into the greatest romance of Rebecca’s real life. For that she will always be grateful and fond of you, me and There. You are the one I want to spend my remaining minutes with. Today I take you to be my husband. I promise you that I will be faithful to you, not grief you for noticing how hot the other avies are, and never again dress you up in shorties. I promise to be worthy of your love. I vow to cherish you, support you, and emote for you as long as There exists."

My sister's avie will marry us. She actually married us in real life too. Friends of ours will be in game with us. One of these friends, I've been gaming with for about 9 years! Hard for me to believe we've known each other that long actually.

I really can't describe how sad I am. I feel like a little bit of me is being killed off somehow. We don't play this game anymore, so it isn't the gameplay I'll miss. Its the idea that I can't go home anymore. Its the fact that she's my last iteration of "Marcy", an alt I used for years and years all over the internet and in all kinds of games. I have such a strong identification with the There version of Marcy. I think because Dev and I transitioned from There to here becoming real and somehow also making Marcy & Smiwi a little real too.

Ironically, I've also never wed in a game before, though Dev and I did wear wedding bands in SWG. At anyrate, we can film it and I will, so I'll post it here for anyone to see. Pretty sure that at least the gamers among us can relate and will appreciate it.

Ellethe, I can feel your sadness. I got a little teary eyes reading this. I completely understand, even though I am not a gamer. I think it's a great tribute that the two of you are getting married in There. Congratulations!

Rebecca, I didn't see this thread until today. I wish I would have as I would have likely tried to make a new character just to see it.

How did it go?

Here's my wedding video. To view it in the best possible quality I'll need to send it to you or you could try d/l'g it from Picasa.

Unfortunately you couldn't have Angel because they froze character creation when they announced the closing.

It went beautifully and honestly I cried so much. We all did. I know how goofy this is, but I'm really grieving the loss of my toon. We're all just so darned sad. Its like attending your own funeral.

I totally understand. In UO a couple of years ago, they had a 10 day play free for expired subscriptions, so I logged on, saw my old toons, but my house was gone, my guild wasn't there. My wedding ring was still there, and I literally started sobbing. It was like being missing for years, and coming home to find nobody remembers you.

But I still felt like a dork, bawling.
