I am thinking of getting either cable tv or satellite in the future. I want to know from you guys and gals which one you think is better. Which one has the best deal in the long run? On a side note I love watching "Comedy Central" and "Cartoon Network". I appreciate your suggestions and comments.

I prefer satellite. I enjoy how the system controls work. And, IMO, the signal quality is better than cable.
The downside is real bad weather. But I have lost cable before also in bad weather. As to satellite, I prefer DSS (direcTv) to Primestar. In the future I hopefully will put a suitable antenna (dish system) on the boat. It will acquire the satellite and do its job up to about 200 KMi at sea off either coast. Cost for that system? OOPS...... about 5K. Maybe the cable company can run a cable out to me when I'm a hundred miles out

Up until our company strike, I was getting digital cable. It has ALL of the channels that you need and then some. It's just as good as satellite and you don't have to worry about it going out when a strong wind hits it. (LOL) One of my favorites is that I would listen to non-stop music on digital cable every weekend. Another advantage, Tyg, is that you may be able to get a deal on a cable TV and internet package.
I'm currently receiving only the basic cable until I return to work. But I can assure you that I totally miss my digital cable. |

digital cable
When I moved in this apt. I called for basic cable(11.00) a month. NO MUSIC channels or comedy, but better than nothing. The cable man saw the dish on the side of the apt that the last tenants left behind and said if you turn old equipment into the cable co. they will give you a deal. A package that usually costs over 60. bucks for 35. Also one HBO. I didn't know there was more than ! HBO 40 music stations! Yeah!!!
I am going for it on Tuesday but am wondering what the diff is between digital cable and regular. Iwill be getting digital cable and a box installed and stuff. Now if I could get a little bigger TV that I can actually focus on. I have to pull it almost up to the couch because it is so small! Everything in time I guess! |

I've never had satellite, but my mom did and had alot of trouble with reception due to weather. She also mentioned that there are so many channels that sometimes it's almost too much. If you are someone who has nothing to do but sit and watch tv all day, satellite might be for you. But, she went back to cable mostly because of the repeated problems.
I don't have digital cable, but I'm going to go for it soon. |

I had satellite and go really disgusted with it. Every time it would get windy outside, a heavy overcast or a down pour I lost the signal. I would lose the signal almost every day. I was very upset when I called the satellite folks and asked them what was wrong and they said they could fix for a fee of $50.00 or more depending on what they would find. The other downside is if you want to upgrade your system with the latest receiver dish or box you will have to pay big $$$ for them and agree to another year of service. Bummer! I switched to cable. They have digital cable now and the picture is just as good at the satellite picture. It's cheaper, you don't have to pay anyone to come out to look at a problem you have if you pay $1.20 a month for complete service, you can take your box back and swap it for another one if it's acting up (no charge), the remote on the cable and guide on the screen is just as easy to use now as the satellite one and if you get Roadrunner high speed and cable you get a discount.

I have had both satalitte and cbale. The satallite is great if you enjoy your TV programming. Cable is very basic. However, I would say digital cable is your best investment, if you are offered it in your area. It seems like the best roue. If not, I would go with the satallite b/c it offers more variety.

Thanks
Hey everyone,
Thanks for you input in this matter. I wasn't online yesterday because I was spending a night at my classmate's home. I watched satellite and played mini- golf....so much fun and it was my first time too! |

We have both expanded cable (not digital, though) and DFH (international) satellite service. Both provide excellent image quality, but then I have a great old Mitsubishi television set which I hope lives forever. We have rarely lost the satellite picture. It was hard finding a local technician who knew how to set up the dish, but he did a great job (for $150.00). We rarely lose the picture even though we live in a very windy area.
